Any suggestions how to kill 7.000 skellie Archers, 200 Archliches, 350 Vamp Lords, 900 Spectres 1200 Zombies 100 Wraiths and 27 Shadow Dragons with "only" 300 M. Hunters, 300 Sprites, 100 Druid Elders, 5 Phoenix, 90 Unis, 60 Treants and 30 Emerald Dragons?
Findan has the following skills:
Expert Avenger with all perks
Expert Attack - Tactics - Battle Frenzy - Nature's Wrath
Expert Luck - Soldier's Luck - Resourcefullness - Elven Luck
Expert Light - Master of Wrath - Master of Blessings - Storm Wind
Expert Enlightement - Intelligence (no other perks)
Expert War Machine - Ballista (no other perks)
I have all Light Spells, as well as Slow, Summon Elementals and Decay.
My Racial Enemies are Spectral Dragon, Skeleton Archers and Archliches.
Is it possible to win this fight? If not, what do I have to do then?
I haven't killed all spectrals yet, as Nicolai attacked me when I used the Portal in the N-E Underground.

Quote: Hmm iam a bit confused.I got the 4 artifacts on mission 4 but i dont have them on mission 5 is it a bug or i just didnt understand it right??
The artifact was in Biara's hand. So you must kill Biara for this artifact and continue to mission 5.

Sounds like a bug to me.. Have you patched to 1.6? If so you may want to restart the mission or use the cheat console to move in the next mission.

I think op means the dwarven sets. In orginal and HoF, set artifacts are not carried onto later missions.

IIRC, those artifacts are not carry-overs. You just gain some experience each time you find one, but they don't go with you in the next mission.

Sylvan mission 3
I think i'm experiencing a bug. I have got fairly far in this mission but I'm a bit concerned because I still have only three objectives. First- Recapture Syris Thalla (completed)
Second- Hold Syris Thalla against attackers
Third- Findan must survive
I have conquered both enemy towns, but objectives are not updated. If I understand everything correctly, then I should have two more objectives. Prepare the garrison of Syris Thalla and Free Talanar and Diarel. When exactly do they become active? Another thing is that purple player only attacked me once with two Spectral Dragons, althoug I can see a much larger purple army in top right corner of the map, but it does not move. I'm playing HOMMV campaign in TOE with the help of this http://www.heroes-fr.com/en/original_campaigns.php I also have installed patch 3.1 Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Ah yes, I've experienced this too, at least partly. The problem is that the AI is very cowardly on hard in TotE, and won't attack the town unless it think it will stand a chance. And the area they spawn can't be entered by your own heroes. To my knowledge, you need to beat some waves for the next objectives. You'll have to withdraw part of your garrison to lure the AI in (the defending hero should get a "challenging" rating on the attacker). If you still get no new objectives, just wait a few weeks for the next waves. I think you'll have to survive 4 attacks or so.
You should be able to free the two heroes before you get the objective, which gives you no indication where to look anyway. One of them is underground near a Necropolis in the SE part of the map, the other is in the SW corner. You can also prepare the garrison in advance. You'll need 20 Emerald Dragons, 30 Unicorns(classic Upgrade) and 50 Elder Druids. Of course, keeping those in town will probably deter the attacks, but just keep those numbers in mind (you can let them accumulate but not hire them yet).

I have a question for Maurice... How did you find out all the scripting in the campaign? It seems there's a lot of stuff scripted into the campaign that could prove very useful for my map that I'm building.
Why they don't allow us to look into it normally as a reference is beyond me. Cheers to Nival for giving us all headaches.

Hm, the ToE campaign mod has quite some issues. I played the last mission again and met Nicolai being used as a scout by the AI (next to no army). Quite the letdown for a final battle, so I engaged him witout Phoenixes... and he thanked me by respawning next to a Necropolis I already captured (though I expect that always was the case).
I'm also a little bit disappointed they didn't fix the missing cutscene.

How long does the 3rd scenario go on for?
I have taken every town, I have 3 times as many troops as the quest requires.
I have both the heroes required for the quest.
However, I don't get credit for those heroes being freed.
One of them wasn't even in the underground prison, she was recruited out of the tavern!

Hey, did anyone have problems with the battles being much too bright on the last mission? I tried changing the brightness on my computer, the screen resolution, It was so bad by the end of the game that I could hardly see the creatures on the battlefield!
Yuck! I even started the game over with a new campaign, and it was the same thing.

Patches
When I initially played the campaign the game actually skipped quest 3 and went straight to the Archipelago. I thought that it was an option and so I didn't even play it until I finished the vampire lord. I had encountered the same problem that you described. Next I did some research on the quest and determined that the quest should have been complete. I did some looking online for some patches and found that they have 7 patches at the following link: http://www.ubi.com/US/Downloads/Info.aspx?dlId=1628. I determined that the initial software version was 1.0 and installed all 7 patches. I replayed the Defense and was able to win successfully without any bugs. If anyone else has the same problem, I strongly recommend installing the patches.
Quote: i cannot finish the third scenario. I saved the heroes, i builded my army but i do not receive objective completed for rescuing the 2 heroes(i get the one for army). It makes me nervous. Maybe someone can help. THX.

Quote: Finished this one finally.
Here's some thoughts (heroic).
Mission 1
Actually pretty good, even excellent mission I'd say. You must guard the border, meaning keeping on your side atleast 4 garrisons. My garrisons were attacked twice, first time garrison itself did the job. Second time (northest one) enemy pass through, but I was close with hero, and a nice ressurection scroll, so ended that well. Then inferno hero spawns, and heads towards your town. Had castle and nice number of hunters, so stayed alive. Needless to say, in whole campaign hunters are your backbone, keep them alive at all costs. Plus, there are close by two hunter dwellings, though second one was guarded by master hunters, so took that one a bit later. Findan has a fantastic speciality as well. Before combat actually start, all shooters fire one free shot, and always targeting lowest level in opposing army. Absolutelly great for later missions. Some tips for fighting...at start pick fights wisely, slow walkers preferably at the start, have all 7 slots filled, even cavaliers wont posse much threat when all they can hit is a single pixie, while you pound them with hunters and druids.
Mission 2
Small start area with all mines but sulphur one. I had to leave gold mine as it was guarded by horde of succubus mistresses. Others were demons, cerberus. At start go with Findan claiming those mines, and buy a boat and head with scout on sea. I didn't go underground as pit lords guarding entrance would be a bit tough. Anyway, explore a bit sea with scout, build town as much as you can (I had to trade a lot) and return with scout home. Now I've used a little trick. Both heroes knew Summon Boat spell, and we had a boat there. Seems that AI knew the spell as well...as saw one succubus hero with a bit big army summoning my boat and heading to sea. First I was pissed, but as that hero stopped on one island to kill some druids, I summoned the boat back. Hopped with Findan and all the army I could raise and head to their land. And immidiatelly after summoned boat with scout, and hopped in it. Succubus hero got stuck on that island. In their land I took fully built, and poorly defended inferno town. Silo there produces sulphur, so finally could've built treants. Anyway, turn after got attacked by another hero with some big army, and I would bet anything that it's scripted event, as haven't seen the hero before, and he was in part of map with...well, nothing there. But, with help of castle and mighty hunters, stayed alive. And kicking! Claimed all the mines there as well, and after some time it seems AI bought some boats of their own, as succubus hero summoned one, and headed for my sylvan town. Panicked at first, but as it turns out...hero was pretty bad, my scout succesfully killed the enemy. And that after it took that gold mine (and seemingly lost nothing vs horde of succubus mistresses? I smell foul play!). Anyway, there might be some other heroes coming close via water, but easily disengaged. Two more inferno castles are there, both long way via sea. With help of devils and pit lords, plus with regular sylvan army (beware of morale penalties - but it seems it affected only my inferno troops), wasn't that tough at the end. Oh yes, main objective is to gather 20 emerald dragons, two ways to do it. First, you'll be able to build dwelling in town after some event (think when you take first inferno town), or you can visit the obelisks, and dragons will appear in some places. And always join you.
Mission 3
I don't think I've ever played a worse heroes map. Have to defend main town against never ending waves of necro heroes. Who in first week come daily, later a bit rarer, but expect one each week. Those heroes have lousy stats, but are 20+ levels, and they don't waste much time on spells. Most of the times attacking your dragons, treants, unicorns. Also, each hero has a bigger army than previous one. And while you defend the town, you must get 10 green dragons, 30 silver unicorns, and 50 druid elders. Plus you must find two heroes that are in prisons in the land. And as for this being worst heroes map I've ever played, it's not just becuase of those necro waves, map is also pretty ugly, with lots of wasted space. Anyway, first time, I defended with Findan for literally months. No mines at all to build those dwelling that are needed, so only managed to trade and build in month 3, 4...don't know now. And just when I got those troops needed for objective (one that says that with them, town will be able to defend itself), and finally went with Findan to attack teal, ofcourse another necro heroes came. Bleh. Second time went well. First day, retook town, left all the troops in it but master hunters and unicorns, bought a hero (was Ossir), and went with Findan in boat. Findan went south east, to take the town that eye of the magi reveals. Ossir on the other hand leveled up quite fast. No wonder with that many enemy. Eventually he lost all emerald dragons, but at same time other troops (and green drags) increased in numbers. Anyway, Findan cleared area, took mines where that other town is...and when you feel ready break that teal garrison. Regular inferno army there 10 some spectrals, 15 or 20 wraiths, 30 or so archliches, and so on. Actually there are two garrisons on same road. Also, teal hero might come out as well. Findan with help from some troops from other Sylvan town managed to beat both garrisons, teal hero, and finally poorly defended necro town. Now just to get those two heroes (and those troops previously mentioned - they have to be in garrison in main town, as soon as you remove them from there, objecitive is active again). One hero is underground for which entrance is near necro town. Second is close to south-western corner guarded by some titans. Those heroes will be active in final scenario of campaign, so up to you if you want to level them up a bit. I did, just one, underground one...but as it turns, all I needed from her was ability to cast Summon Creatures. So good knowledge would be plus. And logs as well.
Mission 4
Nothing much to say about this one. No town, just wondering about killing and getting joiners. Visiting stat boosters as well. Final AI heroes were no threat to me at the end. Can find those quest arties, can help ofcourse, but sadly, they do not transfer to final scenario as objective made me think. Guess I just misunderstood it.
Mission 5
Wow! First impression - beautiful! We have night in Heroes 5, and looks stunning. I was just staring at my small area for some 10-15 minutes, admiring the scenery. Anyway...Findan found not much resistance in his start area when having combined army from three heroes. Left just 45 Raksahasahsadadasdjahfa Rajas alone. Anyway, I think it was week 2 when I broke through the garrisons, got abandoned mines and went through two way portal. There visited quest hut, and soon after got attacked by necro hero. Carrying 550 skeleton archers, ouch. Plus hero casts like crazy project image spell (not sure of exact name now), and that, you guessed right, on skellies. Reloaded, and got some more hunters, druids, actually all the army I could get, and got attacked again (maybe it was week 3 now). Findans speciallity kicked in, killed some 100 skellies, had luck with initiative, and as soon as it was AI's turn...he fled! Guess this happens quite often. Could've hurt me more, but instead opted for this crazy option. Oh well. A bit about objective. You have to kill Nicolai, now Vampire Lord, and Nicolai is that silly looking (on adventure map) chap you'll hear lots of times as he instant travels. But as you kill him, he immidiatelly respawns back...and now you have to bring back the dawn. That supposedly help in this task of killing him. And how to do that...well, attack some spectral dragons that are revealed when visiting eye of the magi, and you'll see. Anyway, after that first necro hero, took his town which is in same area, cleared that area as well, got all mines, but left those 900 wights alone. After some time went through another two way portal, this time you exit in underground, there are two necro towns here, plus three great artifacts behind some garrisons. One town is in center of the map, other in south-west corner. There I've seen some crazy numbers of skeletons on one hero, something that poster above me spoke about. Just 5,000 skellies this time. Well, I had enough troops, that Findan's speciallity killed around 600-700 of them I think. And again, hero fled when got it's turn. Had atleast still some 2,000-3,000 skelies when did that. Also, there's a golden bow (again, not sure of H5 name for it) right next to road when you go down from 2-way portal. Helps a ton. Now, you can explore the underground, getting those two necro towns (I got first southwest one, then 5,000 skels hero came close), and beating those spectral dragons. There's another portal in north east corner that leads directly into the heart of necromancers, but I think you are safe in underground, as not once I saw AI coming - save for those that were already there. Get as many troops as you can, I had everything but sprites, and go through that north east portal. Oh, look, another hero with legions of skellies. But now, 10,000+! This time battle went some time before AI fled. Lost all emerald dragons (35+), and war dancers and some unicorns. And that after couple of reloads. Atleast AI knows how to shield those skellies. Each stack of master hunters, druid elders killed some 500+ skeletons, and I shot only them. Rest of AI army possed no such threat. Also, that hero always casted first Banshee Howl. If it'd casted phantom image first (which is instant it seems) I'd be dead. Also, I attacked at start with emerald dragons, and their breath attack killed not only necro dragons, but some 400-500 skellies as well. Unicorns killed vampires (I had tactics), My archers shot skellies, treant waited, war dancers went towards necro troops, and now was skellies turn. They killed dragons, guess for no range penalty. I ressurected some dragons, to have them as a decoy, shot some more skellies, lost all dancers and after some time AI fled. Phew. Hardest part of the game is now over. I took the town there, beat spectral dragons, visited some power boosters, and there first meeting with little funny vampire lord. And attacks me. Better in stats than other heroes, with bigger army, but with just 2,000 some skeletons. Likes to cast implo on my druids, and even with his spell power, it kills around 30 of them. While I ress them 27 back. Nice trade off. Better than phantom image. Anyway, with him casting implo, you have just to worry about his shooters first, as others wont reach you in one turn. After beating him, he respawned back with same or bigger army, but with just 200 some skellies. He decided to ignore me this time. Well, ok. I'll do the same. Headed for other necro town a bit south west of that in center, got it, got spectral dragons that were close (by the way, biggest stack of them I've encountered was around 150, easily dispatched - guess previous poster waited a bit too long), went through another portal, another town there, another hero, but again with 'just' 2,000 some skelies. Beat dragons that were close there, and here comes the dawn! Grew tired and went for final encounter with Nicolai which stayed in his recaptured necro town in center of map.
Also, one question for others that played this map. I've found only three optional objective artifacts, all three underground...but can't find the fourth anywhere, dwarven cuirass. Anyone knows where it might be?
in mission archipelago where should i go? the boat cannot pass through the rocks that block the way? plz help

I recall getting the fourth artifact above ground near the first set of spectral dragons, it should have been the first one acquired. The other three are in the underground as you stated. Did you get your answer on the boat passing through rocks on the archipelago?

depends on where you are
normally its very easy to see where you should go.
you should watch out for strong enemy stacks which are quite strong and can kill alot of army which you need to fight both for a enemy inferno hero and biara in the end

Trouble with Nicoli
So I cleared the whole map but having trouble with Nicoli. I am stuck at a save spot where I can't get away from him to regroup or change favored enemy.
He has in his arsenal: 1,300 Spectres, 92 Green Dragons, 423 Arch Liches, 7k skeletal archers, 600 Vampire Lords, 99 Spectral Dragon, and 210 Wraiths.
I have: 400 war dancers, 38 Emerald Dragons, 500 Master Hunters, 200 Elder Druids, 100 Ancient Treants, 133 Silver Unicorns, and 12 Spectral Dragons.
Either his Arch Liches or his Skeletal Archers kill my hunters in the first or second round, then his Vampires, Wraiths, and Dragons move in for the kill.
I just don't see anyway I can kill him, especially with those 1,300 spectres. I frickin missed them 4 times in a row and they decimate me with the retaliation strikes.
I spent a lot of time finding the dwarven artifacts only to be rewarded with 4 Phoenix's...
Is this battle hopeless and should I go back to an earlier save?

hi, and sorry if I'm going out of topic... but I've got a problem in the 5th mission of the sylvan campaign...
I've read that there should be an eternal night all over the mission.. but all I see is that most of the items all around the map are more brilliant, and I got a weird light in the battle field...
I'll try to post a screen shot once I'm home...
anyway, is that strange light the famous "eternal night" or did I got a problem with the game?
