Cults, Subcultures and Other Organisations - What YOU may want to know
If you go out into the world there are many different subgroups in existence that have either become cults, cultures or something more. It could be either religious, music-related, or perhaps just an enormous fad. This thread is a post-by-post account of these cults.
Today I will start off with a religious organisation that has been in the press a lot of late.
Scientology[/]
How did it all start?
It all began when sci-fi author L. Ron Hubbard (he also wrote Dianetics) believed that he came from the alien race well known from his books and started his own religion.
Rumours
Scientologists use an e-metre to check their thetan status. Also, scientologists cannot go into public toilets unattended and childbirths are to remain silent.
Pros
None
Cons
Silent childbirths
Members are brainwashed
Joining fee is expensive
Famous Scientologists
Tom Cruise
Katie Holmes
John Travolta
Jamie Packer
Kirstie Alley
Isaac Hayes
Nancy "Bart Simpson" Cartwright
Will Trogdor ever become a Scientologist?
With Tom Cruise blabbering on about it and with the negatives far outweighing the positives, chances are the Church of Scientology will never see me as a member.
