Got my copy
Ok, I decided to make the step and went to local shop to buy my copy of Heroes. Traveling home I open the manual excited and read about building capitol and market. Creatures? Skills? Races? Buildings? The manual is as scarce as my tax paper. Nada.
Back home I insert the disk and it install properly. I click "no" for direct x because I was sure to have the latest; wrong decision, game will NOT start.
I reinstall everything, direct x also and now I click on the icon and wait...wait....wait just to see game didnt detect my CD, but offers me the possibility to retry 
Now it detects. Not need to say that everytime I start the game, the CD isnt recognized and I need to click again. Will be fun for MP games
Ok, game starts, I wait...wait...wait and see nice movies. Ok, now I click on "campaign": wait...wait...wait and I see again a movie about Nikolai and his chick. Movie ends, I wait...wait...wait (every wait...wait...wait is about 3 minutes) and a new movie starts, about his chick and some knight. Movie ends, I wait...wait...wait, campaign first mission is charging.I wait...wait...wait and finally the screen is coming:
Ok, here are some trees, thats a LOT of trees. Naturally, the trees are 10 times bigger than my Hero.They are very beautifull, those trees, lets look now where the chick may be; ok, here she is, behind a big tree. Wow, I can zoom, as in Civilization, thats promising. I zoom to see her pants, but the game doesnt like my behaviour and freezes about 3 minutes so I wait...wait...wait, no pants.
First mission ask me to gather 100 peasant (you know, that pitifull creature nobody liked in previous series, except maybe the necros 
)So I charge the first stack of peasants and I am in my first battle. Ok, lets look carefully and win this. I look but I think I need my glasses because I hardly can say which unit is about to move. The unit is imobile, only its square is a bit greener, on a green battle big square
After killing all those souls, I explore around and wait...wait...wait every time I change the screen. My hero can travel far...very far. More than one screen.
So, between "wait...etc" and another "wait...etc" I decide to do the next step. To buy a new computer. Is it worth it? I dont know yet, but I have a feeling this game didn't bring anything valuable for the series, if not big and beautiful trees. And nice battle effects which we will desactivate anyway.
And the "wait" thing also.

Hi Sal...
I also had the disk error, as soon as I messed with some dma settings it was fine. when you get the error, there may be a link to a site which can help you..try this
original disc error
Also with the long loads on different screens...I found that after the first load on each aspect...ie combat screen, town screen, creature recruit screen, everything worked great after the first time...went nice and fast. My comp is 4 years old (2.4 ghz processor, 512mb ram, radeon 9550 card) and its going well, so I dont believe a new pc is necessary.

anyway I need a new card etc, I bought Oblivion but I am under the requirements, so I look at the box. Let's hope it will adress HoMM also.

It is worth for sure,because Homm 5 gameplay 3 times better than homm 3 or homm 4 was,the new initiative system is outstanding for creating tactics,also i have no feeling like in homm 4 that there is some unbalanced stuff that really spoils fun,like super immortall hero in homm 4,from first joining and examining game you come to understanding that there is no such a feeling and for sure will win those who will use skills,not a tricky disbalances like in homm 4 immortal hero or in homm 3 fly,dimension door,also you can run only when your hero get move,that is a fair system and i like it

Hehe and in Homm 5 will be no ban necro or necromansy skill rule for sure,and also will be no disputs about logistic heroes,also you will realise that all heroes are good here even this necro hero Zombie Master
