i vote necro too.its the best in the late game coz u can get 1k skeleton archers easily.if u use phntom forces the enemies dead.its got raise dead too

Necropolis because I am a fan of everything undead. I would be extremely upset if they didn't make it into any future titles. In addition to that I really liked the way markal manipulated his way to power while crushing all who stood in his way. Necropolis was by far the easiest campaign for me. I just exited town and flattened the entire map easily.

Ugh...Mind...numbing...difficulty...All semblance of strategy disappears in favour of overpowering hordes of undead joiners.Somehow I still can't choose a favourite,each one has its own distinct feel and is fun to play.Sylvan for its swiftness and ranged combat,inferno for demonlords themselves,suicidal attacks and gating,dungeon for its mystique,powerful spells and tricky units,academy for its music,spell casting units,rakshasas and spell variety,necropolis for the harvesting,cursing and 4 to 6 tier units.Haven has that heroic feel,good buffs and balance in types of creatures but seems simpler than others and has less combos than I would hope.It's gonna be a tough call.

1. Dungeon - Strong unit attack, good destruction magic.
2. Necropolis - One word, Skeleton Archer rock!!!
3. Sylvan - Good combine army if you love to shoot people to die.
4. Haven - Palandin + Archangel + Higher level hero = God of War
5. Academy - Too bad, nice magic and creatures but I don't know how to play them
6. Inferno - Good meele units, but I just don't know how to play them.

1. Necropolis. Necromancy + lots of battles with neutral cannon fodder = legions of skeleton archers (make sure to learn Attack for Battle Frenzy and Defense for Vitality). Zombies are good as castle defenders, Ghosts are weak but annoying for anyone without a strong destructive magic, Vampires are excellent (I sometimes give them to a separate hero who clears mines etc. without any losses), Liches and Wraiths are no worse, Spectral Dragons are poor but you have a lot of them.
2. Haven. Just take Ellaine as the starting hero, give her all peasants, do not upgrade them, let ther sit in a safe place for a long time and you will earn enough money to upgrade e.g. Footmen to Priests or Priests to Cavaliers.
3. Academy. They have the worst heroes (I prefer Attack and Defence over Power and Knowledge) but they have 3 shooters (although upgrade to Titans is very costly).
4. Sylvan. Good units with high initiative but I do not like their racial ability.
5. Dungeon - like Sylvan.
6. Inferno - I disliked them in H3 and I dislike them in H5. Gating is an excellent ability but they are too much melee-oriented, I prefer ranged units.

1. Haven - Marksmen(in skeletronical quantities) + Squires are all you need to achive victory! On top of that, there are also the Mighty Paladins, and the Diving Griffins !
2. Dungeon, Sylvan, Necropolis, Inferno!
Dungeon is great, empowered implosion and Meteor Shower murder troops... but Necropolis can easily defeat them , 1000 Skels + Vladimir Raise Dead -> hard to defeat. Inferno has a great melee force, and if the imps drain enough mana(almost all), then you're dead ... they are very effective against low knowledge towns(Dungeon, Haven)... but they have a hard time against Sylvan and Necropolis. Sylvan is really nice, many fast troops, great shooters, cheap dragons, but it has difficulties against Dungeon, cause it doesn't do damage fast enough (before implosion puts them to rest). These 4 towns are pretty equal, and between them it's like a wheel of counters
6. Academy ... simply too expensive, and the troops aren't that great, no unit that stands out as the best for its level. The heroes get huge knowledge, and that is not so great

agree with TowerLord. Haven is on top, whether you like it or not, than the rest of the towns which are well balanced, than academy which is underpowered.. a bit, but it is. And, artificer just sucks - on top of that. Knowledge-based hero has a lot of mana, but doesn't have the power to utilise it well and his creatures suck too due to poor A/D bonuses. Aww. Solid nerf to haven, big buff for academy, the rest should remain unchanged.

1.Dungeon
Deep Hydras have very high hit points,defense is good,regenaration might help at the begining plus their six headed attack!
Minotaur guards are great against most level 4 and level 5!
Empowered implosions and meteor destroy enemy troops as TowerLord said!
2.Haven
Always had an advantage when i entered battle with haven units!It's due to their might and resistance(squire with that range block speciality)
Best option to fight haven is with necropolis!weaken or curse(not sure if curse or suffering?)their marksmen,then target their paladins with vampire lord,skeleton archers and wraiths
3.Sylvan
Great ranged units,deffensive ones,but not so good in offense!!!
4.Necropolis
Skeleton archers,vampire lords,Archliches,annoying spectres...they have a lot of advantages!!!
Not bad for some dead people...
5.Inferno
Very good ofensively,but a little weakened in deffense.Although they aren't good in defense the demons rely on their attack skills to finish of the enemy quick.Very good Strike once and die units are the Archdevils and Cerberus!
6.Academy
The wizard castle is a very good choice but their units are not so good!Each one has a very weak spot(except the gargoyle),and they are expensive.Genies die quick,gremlins too,but Titans and the Rakshasha's are a big line of hope for Tower and Wizard fans!

Dungeon has been my favourite sence the beginning and I still think it is the best!! The grim raiders, assasins, hydras and black dragons are awesome!!

useless how so?
Assain- Ranged and Poison- good
Blood Furie- Fast attacker and no retaliation (most of the time)
Minotor Gurad- Double attack
Dark Rider- Bite attack when next to a creature being attacked
Hydra- Tough and an area attack
Shadow witch- alright spells
Black Dragon- best level 7 in game

Best or not, still useless because of ridiculous prices for both basic dwelling and upgrade! 15 crystal 15 sulfur? Rotfl! The dungeon costs are high, the need for crystal is huge, and you may want to get level 5 guild fast.. where to get so much resources? :|
Even if you get them.. you'll have like 1-2 populations of black dragons against 5-6 populations of other creatures. Blackies will be only a nice, good-looking and not very important unit. They will do like 500 damage against 1-1,5 k done by, say, haven's paladins and griffins, not to mention marksmen ofc. 10 initiative won't help them aswell.
You can't use them for dragogeddon anymore and they have pitiful HP for dragons (240? Come on.. -_-)
And still there are ways to kill them very quickly. How about marksmen' piercing shot that will kill them in one blow if you dare to send them after the enemy?
How about excruciating strike, killing ~2 per their action?
You care WAY too much for stats. Numbers. That mean nothing in the real game. Hope you will understand that someday
I love those creatures, though, and I love their appearance in h5. Well, it's Nival to blame for making level 7 creatures so weak. Or rather - too easy to kill via heroes' powers and cheap strats like marksmen abuse.

best level7 is probably titan, because it's extremely easy to get and quite decent. Nothing amazing, though - like all level7s.

Wow Doomforge, everywhere I see your posts I see you complain about "marksman abuse." Clearly you have had some traumatic experience with marksman that still haunts you. If you start having flash backs or nightmares about marksman then its time to get help, talk to somebody, get it off your chest .
The dungeon is all about offense. Their goal is to kill you before you can kill them. That is why they have high spellpower/ destructive spells, and high creature attack/ offensive specials. If they had high defense and high hit points sure they'd be better, but that may be asking a bit much. I see that you miss the dungeon as the overpwered dominant group that they use to be (previous Heroes), but I still think are really good and definately have their strengths.
As for me I will stick with "the Good Guys" who I have always used even when they were overpowered.

100 crossbowman
vs.
50 familair
40 demons
30 hell hounds
4 succubue mistress
crossbowman kill succusbus, then kill your hell hounds, you win, with losses, next turn a enemy hero captures your base, thats got to be it for sure

the nightmare is: 600 marksmen at week 6. Do I need to say more? They kill every of your stack in 1 shot.. and there's morale bonus.. one.. two.. three.. teleport.. divine guidance.. they shoot extremely frequent despite their low initiative. And always kill. GG. :]
I don't miss uber dungeon, but I miss uber dragons : (
And ofc I want evil factions to be as strong as possible (still remaining balanced).. I love evil factions. Chaotic evil, especially
