Getting all but summoned creatures killed
If I summon elementals or a phoenix, and all my combat units except for the summoned creatures are killed during the fight, is it considered to be a loss? What if I don't put all of my creature stacks on the field? Still a loss?

hmm. if all your creatures besides the summoned ones are really dead, then it's a loss (and if you kill all the enemy, it's a dual loss). if you kept some of your creatures out of the battle and defeated the enemy.. i assume that your hero would come out "victorious" and he would remain alive on the adventure map with just the creatures that you left out of the battle remaining. that would seem logical.

As soon as all normal creatures are destoryed, the battle is ended as a loss. It doesn't matter if you still have summoned/gated units still in play.

that is true. i wonder what happens when an area-effect spell kills the remaining "real" units on both sides. I would guess that both heroes lose, even if you have "backup troops" that you have not fielded.

Yea think so too, but are both heroes lost then? And when i surrender in a campaign game my hero is always killed, is this correct, even when i do the bribe thing the mission is always lost.

yeah, well the campaign character isn't your ordinary tavern-hero who you can recruit any time, once defeated he is lost forever, bla bla.....that's my guess at how the producers thought this thing; as for the main problem of this thread, now it's much better than in H3, where sometimes i managed to have a hero without any creatures. Now the power of the summoned units is smaller, as they are more offensive, let's say, cause if they are left living at the end they are useless, cause they dissapear. (hope you understood what i meant to say, i'm really tired now, and my typing not so good )

well, here's what i think i meant to say(): -it just suites the story better to have a main character wich isn't recruited at the tavern, as an ordinary hero, therefore, if he retreats he is lost for good
-it's better now, than in H3, where it was a bug, by which you could finnish the battle with only summoned units, afterwards your hero beeing unitless
Hope you understood now

Well imagine this: I was playing duel mode on lan (heroes 5) and lost with my summoned phoenix standing there

The first time I fought the last battle at the end of the Necromancer Campaign I chain summoned Fire Elementals. Each turn, they wouldn't quite cut even on numbers killed versus numbers summoned and I eventually won out simply by summoning thousands of them over the course and completely draining my mana.
Of course, I didn't know it at the time, but as I spent 15 minutes during that battle with only summoned units left it never made me Lose. It wasn't, unfortunately, until after I won that I got out of the battle and lost on account of having no units left in my army.
Strange that, normally you lose after your last living unit dies. For major campaign battles, it makes you fight it out until the end so you can lose.

***WARNING! MAYBE A SPOILER I'M NOT SURE ***
I believe there is some global flag for a battle, while some battles end when all living units are dead, some end when all units, including summoned are dead.
I was playing the last mission of wizard campaign. There is a huge fight there and your opponent has only summoned troops, he has no regular troops whatsoever. And when he killed all my living troops, leaving only phoenix and stacks of elementals, I was thinking I'm going to lose. But I didn't . Battle just continued on. My elementals killed of his troops, and battle was considered victory because some titans got resurrected.
This flag must have been set for this battle, because if it wasn't set, then my opponent would lose at the start of the battle. And may be it is impossible to set: if player A loses all his living troops he loses, but player B loses when he loses all living and summoned troops.
And your battle, Incendax, maybe be explained by somebody at Ubi/Nival (who is developer after all?) accidentally setting this flag for the Necromancer final battle.
