Assassins have a range penalty in a addition to the regular range penalty so they only do half damage when they shoot, that's only 0.5 - 1 damage against creatures on the other side of the battlefield.

It will still do the same ranged damage as the other ranged creatures(Master Gremlin and Skeleton Archer) plus it'll still have poisonous attack backing the damage. Don't know yet how to put in pictures but you can follow the link to it.

hehe no, no... I did see the picture, but i don't see how it relates to the fact that Assassins have double Range Penalty.

Well... I'm speachless... just did that so you can all make an ideea why I think assassins are the best level 1 creature. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm not. Until now noone gave me a solid prove that I am wrong, and even if I will be proven wrong, it was just what I thought.

man, we seem to have a misunderstanding here... i'm not saying you say anything bad, or your opinion is bad, i just want you to COMMENT on why you think something. just giving a picture without explaining what you think is important in it, well, i'm sorry, i don't understand what you mean, that's all.
I think Scouts/Assassins are very good units, but others don't seem to agree... That's why i expected comments, not just an image =) But don't think i'm belittling your opinion, on the contrary, i'm asking for more!

Everyone just seemed to throw rocks at me saying boooo... Scouts bad, Assassins bad, other creatures much better, ya ya, much better. Why do I think they are the best:
- they have more than twice hp than the rest of lvl 1 creatures thus compensating for the low growth rate;
- they have the greatest damage, attack and defense of all lvl 1 creatures thus kicking the hell out of non-shooter lvl 1 creatures
- they have the "poisonous attack" ability wich in my opinion kicks ass
That's why I think they are the best in their level.

I'm not throwing rocks at you at all, I'm always interesting in seeing new ways of using factions/troops =)

I agree poison can be devastating to clear neutrals early on =) I still think their ranged damage is somewhat low, and that it's too dangerous to engage in melee with them. Fortunately, they are fighting with Blood Furies, which are great =) I usually upgrade both units to clear mines, the team is good.

It really depends on who you are engaging. The hihg hp and defense can withstand any lvl 1s in melee combat, thus compensating for low numbers. When engaging higher lvls any lvl 1 creature is vulnerable just because they are weaker then any other creatures(maybe excepting zombies).

True, but level 1 creatures usually are not as precious as Assassins (to me). That's why i'm more reluctant to engage in melee with them. I'd rather lose 10 peasants than 1 Assassin

I think assassins's growth is too low, like that of a level 3 and it always have a range penalty, thats not very good.

well, taking castle and dwelling growth boosters in consideration, you have:

Conscripts, 6 hp x 49 units = 294 HP per week, 1 defense
Master Gremlin, 6 hp x 40 units = 240 hp, 2 defense
Skellie archer, 5 hp x 46 units = 230 hp per week, 2 defense
Assassin, 14 hp x 14 units = 196 hpper week, 3 defense
Familiars, 6 hp x 32 units = 192 HP per week, 2 defense
Sprite, 6 hp x 24 units = 144 hp per week, 1 defense

As you see, they have one of the worst HPs in 1st level, albeit the best defense, but that's only 1 point more. ~~
EDIT: made a tiny mistake with assassins' HP Corrected now. Well, it's still nothing that great - rather mediocre score.

Agree, but again, pitiful multiplier for those good stats.

I agree here - poison is very good indeed.

statistics wise, they are. But poor growth kinda screws them. The poison is still good, tho.

Ill just go for the familiars, their manaburn is really good, but i must say on a second place surely comes the assasin, cause like you guys said their ranged/posoin attack is very good for lvl 1 creature!

That is : Assassins, 14 hp x 14 units = 196 hp per week

The bad thing about the Assasin is the weekly growth...it has good stats for a lvl 1 unit and the poison is usefull in many situations...especially against slow units because of their good initiative. I haven't used them in melee too much (only if they run out of shots) and I ussualy try to make good use of their poison because their range dmg is small because of the range penalty. About the double range penalty...i don't think it's true...but if it is I hope it's a bug.

They always have a range penalty, that mean even in close range they still do half damage, whereas normal range units will do full damage.

It does not have a double range penalty, they just do the same damage in any range.
