the first aid tent
does someone know how exactly the first aid tent works acorrding to heros war machine skill?
i seen the first tent aid heal up to 100 hp, resurrect creatures and even lifting curse spells from freindly creatures but the war machines skill doesnt say anything about those features nor does the manual...
where can i find this info?

the War Machines skill say something about "increased healing power" and i think that's all you'll get. I believe you need the First Aid skill to resurrect units, and that as soon as you get War Machines, you get "cleansing" ability, but that's nothing more than a guess (and what i recall from my using these skills/abilities).

the first aid skill says that it gives control of the first aid tent and that it restores the first aid tent at the end of battle if it was destroyed. nothing about resurrection... can someone else explain further or agree with gus?

Without abilities the tent is absolutely useless: with a max. 10 points per heal it's not even worth the minimum price. I don't know why they decided to cripple it like this: I didn't think it was overpowered in H3 (don't know about H4).

And with the abilities is still useless, it has only 3 'shots' and ammo cart doesn't help with that (surprise, surprise ) and it heals ridicullously low amount of HP.
Imo any other skill you'll take will be better than first aid mastery

The first aid tent is pretty useless, even if you have the skill.
If it gets destoryed, your skill is useless for the entire battle.
However, i believe all war machine are useless, probably a wrong opinion, but yes they are useless.

this topic is not about how the first aid tent sux...
i think the first aid can be quite good becuase:
you can actualy max it heal 100+ hp , resurrect and remove negative spells from units and it draws enemy fire
i am just asking how it works and how to do that becuase i havent seen any offical explanation.
and no there was no first aid tent at heroes 4! actualy war machines did not exist - not even the catapult!
lastly:
war machines are realy good, i think the skill is great especialy the ballista since it deals insane amounts of damage.

The only hero I have used a first aid tent on is Kaspar for Necropolis. His special gives 5 more hps per level, and he starts with war machine and first aid skills. The first aid tent was extremely useful those first couple of weeks, cutting my losses almost to none. With the skills for first aid I could easily get above 100 hps resurrect, thats like getting 25 skeletons back, for free. Later in the game it becomes pretty much useless. 300hps is pretty much nothing, and thats even with the heroes specialty, which allows for no other specialty. The 3 charges adds more to its ineffectiveness than the "low hp" heal. Plague tent becomes pretty much pointless, because it will use up one of those valuable charges.

yeah but the point is it realy helped you at the start and even at late stages the clean ability is still very usefull and besides - the first aid tent is only 1/4 of the war machines...

Hello.
Doesn't the Master Gremlin have the ability to repair War Machines?
That could be an advantage when your 'Tent, or other War Machines, are destroyed.

The power of the First Aid tent increases with your skill.
If you do not have War Machines the First aid tent is not of much use. But once you get it and improve the skill it can be decent helping hand.
It posses the power of 'Heal' from HOMM3 so it not only heals the hit points, but also removes negative spells. And yes it can even resurect your units...

I've found the war machines in Hereos 5 to be about 3 time more usefull than in Heroes 3. The ballista, if aquainted with the proper skills, can litterally take out a level 7 creature or two per turn. I mean, how can that be dismissed?
Also, the master gremlins CAN repair your war machines. Seeing as I use the Academy, it works very well with the war machines skills and abilities. I love it.

useless? Try a tripleshot ballista with imbued arrows, that's 3 consecutive meteor showers or implosions (if you have the mana that is)

War machine did exist, just they were made into army units for some reason. The ballista was a 2nd level unit in the haven army, and the catapult was a special unit for the winds of war expanision.
The catapult could hit 4 armies at once, dealing huge amounts of damage, (but couldn't damage wall, strange).
Back to the topic. I think the war machines are useful. They're a huge bonus at the start of a level, and the ballista if with the correct skill, can be just as powerful later on. Can't really comment on the first aid tent as I've never used one with a high level hero's army, but if you only get 3 shots, it's pretty useless, in my opinion

puting a unit to grapicaly look like a war machine doesnt make it a "true" war machine (either wise you could say the dragon golems and the steel golems are war machines too)

Ballista
I find the ballista useful only when I use the demon lord with Iron Maiden speciality, where the bolts fired explodes into a fireball and the damage is decent too.

I just played a test game to see this whole 'iron maiden' thingy.
It's seriously ovrpowered. I mean, with such balista you can conquer most of the neutrals in week 1, or even go straight for your enemy from the beggining of the game, gathering experience as you go along.

In comparison an upgraded Ballista is great for these purposes:
Quickly dealing with enemy casters and archers
Extra firepower during a siege
Drawing damage during those critical battles
(My favorite) Totally surprising your human opponent that can't believe why your ballista cleared his stack with good luck.

I didn't like it much at first but the skill has its merits. It helps in a bit of everything:You get a ballista?Nice! An ammo cart?+attack for my archers!Catapult works better even without the ability and first aid tent...depends.You can spend most of earlygame with little to no losses but it's not as useful later on.Only catapult and ballista remain useful especially with haven(triple shot),sylvan(triple shot, imbue ballista, flaming arrows),inferno for its high attack and maybe wizard(flaming arrows) even though it should not be your priority. To get warmachines it's better to either start with heroes that have the skill or when they are offered in the first levels. After all if you are to use them you might as well take advantage of certain heroes' specialization
