Quote: My question is this: Will there be any ways to play multiplayer maps and select a human player as an ally? I spent many an evening with my Girlfriend playing Heroes III on hotseat allied maps. I love the coop factor where we could excahneg ressources, artifact and even creatures. So far that is not possible in Heroes V. Any word on this feature being implemented in the future patch?
I would also like alliances, but for a different reason. Mainly because I have my "ally" keep the enemy distracted while I deal all the major damage and conquring.

I'm confused... when is 1.2 supposed to be due? This month/early next month? Or "late summer"?

I can't wait for the map editor, like a lot of other people here. That will be very cool. The game is great, so far, though! Still working on the campaigns (Dungeon).

Random map generator > map editor
Even when map editor comes out, it will be weeks before mods figure out all the scripts and such. We'll have played plenty of random maps before the first quality map comes out. If you've played the campaigns, I'm sure you know that the scripts in this game are out-of-this-world (random creatures spawning MID BATTLE, for ex).
I wouldn't even expect a decent user-made campaign until the expansion comes out.

It's often a lot easier to start with a random map and edit it than to make a map on it's own. I don't see how they can make a map editor without a random map generator.

fyi, I'm a chick and I love Heroes and I don't have any tentacles at least...
I must confess I've never used the random map generator on Heroes III. I didn't know one even existed!! I have done the map editor though; that's xtremely fun (and time consuming...but so is Heroes in general). I would think it would be harder to do one for Heroes V since it's all 3D but maybe not?

It's mid July (11th) and we don't even have a 1.2 patch.
And a random map generator OR map editor would be in vein if they don't fix the AI. Can you imagine the logistic nightmare of having to hand-script the adventure map AI like Nival does for every map? Disgusting.
But I blame Ubisoft for rushing Nival. I think they will get it right eventually.

Hey guys, is there any chance of Ubisoft being truth to its word and delivering the stuff when it said it does? There is no patch 1.2, and they said it will be released at the end of June. I realy don't know what to think about this company. If the patch 1.2 is so much postponed, what about the map editor and the random map generator? If they keep the pattern, these will be released probably next year, in January or February....

And, by the way, about flaws in the game - have anyone noticed that the warlock cannot acquire Resistance (the fifth ability on Defense). The prerequisites are Protection and Power of Speed, but Power of Speed requires Vitality. So, you need Protection, Vitality and Power of Speed - and you have only three positions for abilities. Wonderfull, isn't it?
And more than that - those who designed the maps in multiplayer have really given a thought to correlate the extent of the maps with the necessary requirements to achieve the ultimate ability for any faction? To get there, a hero must be level 35 or 36, but even on the richest map, with four trees for level-up, as it is Land of Outcasts, played in two without the AI, your hero grows only to level 29 at best (with Enlightment and artifacts to boost the experience you earn in combat). It is stupid to design a tree of skills and abilities which goes up to the ultimate without having any chance of geting there, because the maps are small and poor in terms of experience.... That's only one of the motives this game should have been released with a map editor and a random map generator!!!
Sorry, Ubisoft and Nival, but it is a poor job what you have done until now. You announced the game for February; it was released in May, with a lot of flaws. Then you promised a patch with a huge map for the end of June; now it is mid-July, and no sign of that patch. What about the map editor and the random map generator? Still the same pattern - you say it is August, but it will be in December? I've already played all the maps in multiplayer, I know them by heart. So, what I'm supposed to do - get back to H3 until you keep your promises?

gasp, how dare you insult homm just because of some unfulfilled deadlines and minor changes
once that editor comes out there will be plenty of maps to play or get that ultimate skill baloney on
why do you want to get everything good on every map anyway
i already planned a map made from a few of the best homm 3 user-made map pieces when i was bored
lets just hope the pieces work as well together as they did separately

You can select the movement speed. It's somewhere in an options menu, I don't know the exact location from the top of my head.

Ultimate Skill
You know I like the idea of working towards an ultimate skill. I like the idea of it being easier to reach even better however. Like it has already been suggested maybe lowering the requirements for the ultimate skill to like 25. 4 racial abilities (including ultimate) 4 skills at expert, (including racial skill) and 9 secondary skills. This would allow you to reach your ultimate abilities, and still have some variety in your heros. Those people who like to go for the ultimate end up having relatively the same hero everytime
Another way to go about it is to simply allow the ultimate ability to be level activated. Once you reach level 25 or 36 or whatever it automatically becomes an option. Of course you'd also have to have all of the racial abilities first anyway.
Another idea I thought would be neat was if they wanted to keep requirements for ultimate ability, is to have two ultimate abilities to work towards. I thought it would go better with the Might and Magic name. Since I'm already sad that each faction only has one hero type instead of two, I thought it would create a little more variaty, which is my word of the day.
Oh, btw this is my first post. Hi

Will - you will be able to download a MOD to the game here: Ultimate Skill MOD and also a MOD to change some Heroes starting skills to allow ultimate skill for all Heroes here: Start skill MOD. With this MOD, you Hero will only need 4 Skills including the class skill instead of the current 5 Skills to get the Ultimate Skill. Basically, this means you'll be able to obtain it a level 23 (I think) instead of the normal quite unrealistic level 30-something.

That seems like a Bug - are you sure this is how it works in the game, and not the AOH page that lists the wrong prerequisits? Anyway, if this is truly so, I can make a MOD in about 5 minutes that'll change the pre-requisits for Defence from Protection to something else.
