Heroes 1 Question?
So I pulled out the old disk and have been playing some Heroes 1, its great, except in the campaign I get to the level called "Castle Slayer" and I just get destroyed. Its the part in the campaign where you have to conquer the Barbarians, and it seems impossible. When I play using the Barbarians (so I never have to conquer them) all the levels are very beatable, so it makes me think this level isnt supposed to be this hard and there is just something Im missing, but Ive tried a lot and just keep losing.
Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Exactly what non-Barbarian alignment are you playing?

RESSURRECTION CAN DO WONDERS
there's no matter, which castle ur playing, u just have to wait until u have hordes of units - castle Slayer has about 50 cyclopes etc. but it doesn't cast ressurection
u must take all the other cities before and again wait, until u have many - many troops. He usually haven't attacked me when i have about 60 phoenixes and 30 cyclopes and 10x ressurection...
soon they'll be outnumbered
EDIT: wells are very useful
when u play as barbarian, u have 2+2cyclopes per week....
alamar&lamanda 1+2 dragons/phoenixes per week.....
P.S u can't cast ress. on dragons......so i dont play with warlock

I cant get far enough to worry about that. The waves of barbarians that come down through the desert early on are too much for me. Do they ever stop, or even let up? I can beat back a few of them, but Im never making any ground or building up any kind of army that even has a chance at counter attacking.

As far as i remember, rushing the map was the way in all scenarios of each campaigns. I donīt remember the scenario u are talking about right now (too long ago..), so if u could describe it a bit (starting area, map size, terrain...etc...), i could prolly recall...

Strange... i always capture all the towns in south and use gateways to move in deserts..... there are lots of mines in west......
do u fight them during siege or do u attack 'em in open field?

Now i prolly remember...
Is it the scenario, where u start on bottom right, and have 2 towns to the left? In the north is a big desert area and then a small passage where u reach the area of the barbarians?
If so, then the tactic is quite simple:
The first and prolly the second barbarian hero should be killed when they reach your ground. After that, take your main and travel on the right side of desert in north direction (arenīt there the boots of speed near your starting town?...take them!). As far as i recall, there are genie lamps and prolly nomad tents. Then go through the gateway and collect them on the left side also. This army is way enough to kill the barbarians early. This should happen in the first weeks though....

And useful is to hire a barbarian hero, so u can move fast in deserts and u will have quite good attack.

I appreciate everyones help. I just played and beat the level. I dont know why it was so hard for me before, I just had one strong hero and had him hunker down and let them come at me, all the while he was building up strength. I made sure I got the key resources out of the desert before I was attacked, I think I had neglected to do that in the past, and all went well. Perhaps it was just knowing that it was beatable that made the difference. Thanks.
