black dragon immunity to magic

WHAT HAPPENED? i was planning to get my main hero with just black dragons and armagedon, but in a previous battle i rained down aserioids on the area of creatures around my black dragons, and they killed my dragons!!! why arent black dragons immune to magic any more? im a sad panda, i wana nuke everything with black dragons...

can someone explain why my blackies were hurt by magic?

(p.s. it was my first game of heroes 5, so im not with it all just yet...)

"Basic Irresistible Magic

Partially negates magic protection and allows hero to deal 20% of normal spell damage to otherwise resistant creatures."

That includes your black dragons.

For Armageddon sweeping try this:
Get Academy and Nathir hero (Flameweilder)
Give him Obsidian Gargoyles (immunity to fire)
And sweep with Armageddon

This should work in theory but you need some luck to get Armageddon in mage guild.

yeah, but can gargoyles hold their own incase the enemy is actually good, or fire resistant themselves? hehehe, a bit risky... and i love the dungeon creatures too much to change just for 1 small strategic part of the game. but yeah its a good idea if u love academy/wizzards.

it is not a good idea.. I think that for some strange reason, armageddon bypasses gargs' resistance o_O maybe my eyes fooled me, but I can swear they died in the blast ;p

Well, even if they resist it, wizards still don't have enough spellpower, and they lack warlock's luck or empowered spells.. nah.. it's not good. :<

If that Armageddon was cast by a warlock then it's normal

Spellpower is wizard's secondary attribute, so it's quite large. Furthermore, Nathir's spellpower when casting fire spells is increased basing on hero's level.

With expert destructive magic Armagedon does 30+30*spellpower damage, so it's easy to get 300+ damage to all units.

I have been saying that black dragons vulnerability to Warlock spells is not a bug, but when I think about it, Black Dragons are IMMUNE, not resistant. Resistant would be Golems, Gargoyles, Unicorns, etc. Immune would be Black Dragons and Elementals. Hmmm.

Obsidian Gargoyles are also immune to cold, lightning and fire, but irresistable works on them too.

well, irresistable mag shouldn't work on your own units anyway. Some may say it's a balance issue after the ultra-abusive dragogeddon in h3, but armageddon is kinda weak anyway and therafore it would be balanced even if it wouldn't affect blackies.

Nathir and Armageddon works, but without empower, it just doesn't do enough damage; I'm not even sure armageddon is affected by Nathir's special ability because when I tested it, it did as much damage as his fireball.  Like a previous poster said, though, wizard spellpower is not the problem, especially if you take enlightenment.

Another problem is the gargoyles.  They are indeed immune to all elemental damage.  Unfortunately, being a 2nd tier creature, if your enemy has any powerful stacks that can last one or two armageddons, your gargoyles won't last many battles.  It's too easy to use this tactic only to find that 50 master hunters take out your gargoyles before you even get to act.

Implosion certainly does enough damage. I killed 29 paladins with one casting of empowered implosion from Sinitar in a game in Rise to Power map.

Well the Black Dragons won't take much damage, but Assassins, Blood Furies, and Riders will, which are the heart of the Dungeon.
