Heroes V vs Heroes 3... I guess not a good comparison

I think that never ever will be a game so nice so complicated but also so simple, so good but also really bad that you’ll break your monitor when monsters got morale, so addicted to like Heroes 3!

There were some hopes that this Heroes V will bring some good old players back, but the truth is that even last ones standing last year are gone …

I wonder: IS THERE ANY CHANCE TO BRING BACK HEROES 3 , THE GAME THAT WE LOVE AND REALLY ENJOY PLAYING IT?

VOTE HERE! Maybe there still is a chance to do that!

And while you're at playing Heroes 3, you could do what your forefathers did before, hunt for food, trade skins for grains and never ever wash !

Or, on the other hand, you could come out of the STONEAGE !

I have no doubt that making full of others could be a very nice thing to do! But it isn't about what my father or my grandfather did, it is about those who love heroes 3, and for sure it is a matter of option...

So I'm not telling you to grow up, but I’ll tell you for sure to sit on your desk and watch your words...

you may tell me that you love Heroes V and I’ll respect that, but there are still many players that still play homm 3 no mater if toh support it or not.

all my best

the jump from H3 to H5
i like them both in the same way
i like Ultima 6 and Ultima 9
or standard chess and battle chess

i like the feel of the birds eye view in the now primitive
graphics. i will always like H3 for this i will always prefer this perspective in strategy thinking as i do the larger hexagon range

the latter is artistic strategy and i am entertained in a completely differnt way that is strategy. i like homm5 for its idea
and for its brilliance of focus, but for completely different
reasons.  i think i respectfully agree with you cosmin on both
accounts.  im not sure they can be compared and i really like
H3 and i am deeply glad that WoG came out.

my little hommage to H4.  i dont dis H4
i think H4 is a fine game and i respect it
but the makers 3DO i think said it best
in bold capitol letters on the back of the CD
"its all new, period" and for me it is a new game completely
giving that i think it would have had a better representation
of its perspective had it been given a different name
entirely outside of the HOMM nomenclature legacy

i dont know
nor do i claim to

its just an idea

Heroes 5 is a clone of Heroes 3

Besides the fancier graphics and the new abilities the game is basically Heroes 3.  I had hoped that they would evolve the game from BOTH h3 and H4 into an evoltionary masterpiece of H5... But instead they just jumped back and cloned H3.

for example... my first game I enter a battle agasint shooters.  I start preparing my strategy in tactics phase on protecting my shooters and blocking them so there is no line of site ( one of the good advancements H4 made) and then come to find out that the shooters are back to being able to shoot thru walls and solid objects again like in H3. uhgg.

Then guys, let's once for all face the truth: there is only one Heroes, and that is Heroes 3!

Rest of them is just a financial strategy for those who "renew the original idea". Why we have to move on to the next games while we like playing Heroes 3?

I know so many players, very good players, from Toh or outside of it. The general opinion is that:
"I will always play Heroes 3, because was more then just a GAME! Was part of my life for many years, was the reason of turning on my computer and when I turn it off I was thinking - wait for me buddy, I’ll be back here asas!, and not at last this game bring me so many friends that I really cannot close it’s box and said to myself – It’s time to forget about it!"

It seems that many of the guys involved into this community share same feelings but because of expressions like “on the other hand, you could come out of the STONEAGE” they keep it quiet;

A good example is what is it happened in fashion, all the time closes that people use to were in the past come up in front being the new line of  fashion design today!

Heroes V is just a different game, I really have different feelings playing it. It is not that Heroes V is a Bad Game, it is a different one! There is only one thing I don’t understand:

Why do I have to accept that Heroes V it is a better version of heroes when all I see on my screen  it’s just a piece of art in computing graphics and some ideas about a game I know but when I play it I realize that nothing is how it use to be…. So in my mind - frustration!

No! I won’t accept that Heroes V is the game I have to play! I never will!

I have to agree on Valcy on this one & I been saying it for yrs now.
Heroes 3 is played out.
Let it go.
We love the game but we dont want to go back & play it.
It's played out.
It's like watching your favorite movie 2 times a day for a month.
It will get played out.

My advice is if you dont like heroes 5, then play another game or play heroes 3 with whoever is left.
TOH cant wind back to play older games, TOH needs to stick with all the newer heroes games.

Good post and accurate. I remember the first time I played heroes 3...it grabbed me so much more than heroes 2 did. Heroes 4 was nice, Heroes 5 looks nice...it will be a good game when the bugs are fixed and it has a RMG. At the moment I'm hooked on Age of Wonders...its not heroes but its a great game in its own right and has grabbed me nearly as much as heroes 3 did.

Theres no onus on any player to play the game because they played heroes3 or 4 for ToH. If you dont like the game, you arent gonna become an addict like you were in heroes 3 or somethin. All a matter of taste...but Jinxer I can assure you that this game is NOTHING like heroes 3.

I have finally got the copy of homm5 i waited to much. I'm dissapointed of it. . played some campaigns to see how the game rolls but all i can say you is that.. wont ever compare to homm3. Simply just like playing a normal game which cant make me addict again,I miss homm3, i'd play it anytime... homm5 better than homm4 but still.... imo very low of what we expected it to be.

H5 skillsystem + H5 townbuild + H5 battlefield + H3 heroes + H3 graphics + H3 spells + H2 music = Best game ever!

H2 stand alone = great
H3 stand alone = great
H4 stand alone = crap
H5 stand alone = average

Just my 2 cents...

Btw...i stopped playing H5 2 months ago, coz the graphic annoys me like hell. Not enough zoom out...bad overview....bahh

@Valk
You know there does exist 3D chess, don´t you?
So all "normal" chessplayers do live in the stoneage?
Would be nice to see Kramny hunting for food...

Yes Lucian, i really like the new battlefield with all its options. I like the fact, big units like dragons now need 6 hexes instead of 2. It was about time to differ their size from a centaur like in H3..
I also like the fact every hero has the basic tactic skill and can arrange his units at the start of the battle, especially WITHOUT knowledge of the arrangement of the opponent
I like the "initiative" system very much, coz it brings a completely new aspect in battle strategy. Now it is possible one of your units acts 3 times before an enemy unit acts once. Not only mass haste and mass slow...booom.
The lesser amount of shots all the range units have brings a new aspect also. No more killing throng of zombies with 10 Grandelves...

Thats a fair opinion. I loved Heroes 3. But I have to say the use of Heroes in the battle in Heroes 4, the skill system, moving creatures around the map and so fourth for me improved a great game...... making Heroes 4 better (shock horror, don't all stone me at once!).

I haven't played Heroes 5 yet, but I suspect it just builds on an already great premise. And you can't really knock that can you?

It's too early to say who is right imo. Basing your opinion of the game on Campaigns and the maps that are available is silly. We have to wait for the map editor to judge H5. Yes, I remember h3 when I first got it. I tried a campaign, and I was bored to death... same with h4.

I tried to start a campaign in H5 aswell, but couldn't make myself finish more than the first 2 maps of the haven campaign. Playing against the computer, no matter how good the AI is, is boring as hell.

I'll wait patiently for the map editor.. and then I'll make my judgement. I for one think the game is a tiny bit slow at the moment. The town should be at lvl 4 or something at day 1. But we'll see what the REAL map makers can do to spice up the game.

I think all yall are so stuck up about heroes 3 that you expected Heroes 5 to be so similar that you wouldnt even give it a chance.
We might as well just make another heroes 3 game but with different towns & heroes if thats what everyone wants.
Come on get off the similarities.

I Agree With Rychenroller

And . . . awaiting a more patches before game purchase. I predict 1 year before I purchase Heroes V. I've played it already but too many patchable problems. It is nothing like HeroesIV and appears to be  futuristic vintage that will become greater than HeroesIII. Comparing Heroes III to V is like playing Chess with different pieces and different boards. Chess is an old game but people still love playing it and many look for more imaginative ways of playing the game with glass pieces, theme pieces(like wizards & Kings or American civil war figures), or with electronically enhanced boards with built-in lasers.

Some people don't like the game of Chess at all and so it won't matter to design a fancy board and pieces.

My 2 cents

Yes Im a bastard.. haha

But with Heroes 3 I think the online community made the game what it is remembered as. When everyone became bored of single player theyd come online and meet some cool players and play some fun new maps and have hours of fun.

In fact I see a lot of similarities between Heroes 3 and Heroes 5. Heroes 3 took several critical patches to get to the game we all remember. I think if Nival/Ubisoft put in the effort to improve Heroes 5 it will be very comparable to Heroes 3.
