Hi to the Heroes Community
Hi,
I've already made a couple of posts, but so far I've impolitely "forgotten" to introduce myself properly.
So here it goes, I guess:
I'm what passes for a middle-aged guy from the country that hosted the World Cup this year who's been playing computer games (initially on an Amiga 2000) since 1991.
In the beginning I used to play mostly football management simulations, but eventually I moved on to turn based strategy because there was Civilization...
This and an innocent little game named Pirates! turned me into sort of a Sid Meier fan, so I got all of his and his cohorts' games (apart from his American Civil War game due to lack of interest).
One of the most addictive plays for me was Master of Magic, though. I absolutely loved the blending of Civ-like gameplay in a fantasy setting (although by that time Lord of the Rings was still collecting dust on my shelf - I only read it just before the first film appeared).
Eventually I moved to Windows like almost everybody else, so old DOS games sort of lost their appeal. But I never forgot about that game and thus I have been looking for a "MoM2-like" game ever since. The first one I came across was Lords of Magic, which - at least in its special edition - I liked quite a lot. Still, it wasn't completely what I had been looking for, and thankfully along came Age of Wonders. Another very good game, but even in version 2 and Shadow Magic still only somewhat close to the 'original'.
The same goes for Disciples 2, I tried it and liked it, but nevertheless it wasn't _really_ what I had been looking for.
By then, I had read a lot about the Heroes series, and I eventually gave the new Heroes IV a try. While this was even farther away from the MoM clone I had initially started out to find, it was a game I grew very fond of. I know, Heroes IV isn't the most popular game in the Heroes series, but for me its design was new and I really loved the gameplay. (Of course I also played many other games in the mean time, - IMO at least - great games like Total Annihilation or any of the GTA games.)
Finally I bought Heroes III including the expansions and even Heroes Chronicles (my favourite in the Heroes III line).
Anyway, I heard about a Heroes V being made and I was really excited about it. So excited, I downloaded and played the demo of a game for the first time since the original Grand Theft Auto!
Of course times have changed a lot since 1991, and unfortunately this also means that I have far less time to play any computer games, while at the same time I can afford to buy a lot more games than I did back then. This lead to the somewhat bizarre situation that these days unplayed games are piling up on my shelves, yet I only play one. Since its release, that game has been Heroes V, despite its (perceived) shortcomings and especially its creator's apparent wish to ignore Heroes IV almost completely.
A strange side effect in my permanent lack of time for playing games is that I spend way too much time trying to figure out how a game works, hence my interest in cheats and editing.

I keep buying those games but I don't even install them. Somehow I really lack the time to play a lot, and these games were always very time-consuming.
Part of the fun in the old days used to be playing hotseat with friends or my brother, but sadly that's no longer possible.
The only problem was that everybody wanted to play VfB Stuttgart!

I sure hope Armin Veh does have a clue! After all he had been quite successful with a really poor club like Reutlingen.
Just like last season the team has changed a lot, so I can only hope that with a 'proper' coach Stuttgart will be at least slightly more successful than last season...

Me too! Finally someone else who played it
You may want to check out the Game Experts - Quiz thread and ask me a few questions about MoM. Apparently, noone else on HC have played this great game

Heh, I did propose 2 questions, but I'm afraid I broke the rules because I really would need to research the answers myself...
