Poll Question: Now What?
Heroes V has now been out for a while, long enough for impressions to be made. So, I thought I would open this forum, and ask the question, should it go on, or be scraped?

As I see it, Heroes V has the potential to be huge.
I say potential, because there are some things they should add - and could add without too much trouble I beleave - that would increase it's durability tremendously. What I'm thinking off is a) A map generator - we know that will come; b) A creature generator, that will make modding easy and allow for people to customize their own "versions" of the game for singleplayer mode; c) A town generator, that will allow players to modify the towns by changing associated creatures via the creature generator (good case: Make your own Necromancy town); d) A spell generator, that will allow you to change and and add spells (good case: Make option for making Town Portal for selected destination); and possibly other modifying tools for skills, heroes etc.
I think the key to durability of the game will be flexibility. Gamers did much the same for Heroes 3 with WOG, which was a huge succes with many fans, because it allowed them to have their own say in the game. It could only be even better, if the developers did the same for this game.

I agree, especialy in the case of the spell creator. It would be sweet if those could be uploaded onto the net, and everyone could download eachother's spells.
I'd probobally make a "Wrath of the Kraken" spell, for use on ship to ship battle. I don't need to explain it, do I?

Somebody see Pirates of the Carribean recently?
But yes I agree all these ideas would be wonderful, editors make the game last almost forever. Game designers can only do so much, but when you let the community make their own changes and additions, it becomes an entirely new game and much more exciting to play. Plus its fun making an extremely overpowered spell now and then just to play around heh.

I still say ... Leave out the insanely overpowered spells (read: Wrath Of The Kraken).
Anyway, it would probably be difficult to make a editor that allowed you to make your own spells entirely - but they could throw in some options like Damage calculation, Damage type, Properties affected (attack, deffense, speed, initiative, etc), Ability bonuses (like flying, incorporeality, etc), Area Of Effect, School, Skill bonuses (like mass effect with master of appropriate class, or damage bonuses with master of current element, etc), Level and Mana cost. That could easily be included in the program, one would think.

modding is fun, but it kills multiplayer gaming almost instantly (the chance of meeting a person with exactly the same mods is low ;/), that's why I'd like to see it in distant future, when no one will like to play homm5 online anymore
Well, except if a WoG-like mod will be created, ofc, but it's unlikely to happen.. :<
On topic: Same as Alcibiades, I think the game has the potential to be huge, but it's STILL just a _potential_. Atm we're playing an incompleted and still severly bugged game, which is annoying as hell. Oh well, all heroes games reach their full power after 2nd exp pack (except h2 maybe, which was excellent from the beginning ), so it will take some time.
But game is enjoyable anyway.

After having read Fabrice latest letter, I'm pleased that they seem to be working on many new features, and that he sais that the Map editor is only a small piece of what they're doing. It sounds promising to me. I'm looking forward to seeing what they'll come up with.

Actually, a H5 mod such as WoG is very likely! The latest sequel is easier to mod and there are lots of fans interested in improving the game. However, keep in mind that it might take years before such a mod has been created. After all, WoG came out after both H3 expansions.
