Wallpapers
Recently I did some traveling and I brought back some interesting pictures worthy of making into a wallpaper.
If your on XP all you have to do is click on the link you want, and then right click on the picture, and then you will have an option to "use as wallpaper".
If you are on 98 right click on the picture and then save it to your hard drive. Then right click on your desktop and you can browse to find the wallpaper from there.
I'll be adding to these periodically. All of the following are in Washington State.
Mt. Si
800 x 600
1024 x 768
Diablo Lake
800 x 600
1024 x 768
Sauk Mountain
800 x 600
1024 x 768
Magical Forest
800 x 600
1024 x 768
Morraine
800 x 600
1024 x 768

Truly beautiful pictures of nature.
Another place to find good wall papers is the homepage of National Geographic. The photos alone make it worth bying the magazine.

[Updated]
There's something that really annoys me about National Geographic photos. They'll take a photo that's only worth a couple inches, like some cowboy dude and a sunset, and they'll blow it up to an entire page. They don't understand how to resize pictures to the point where the information matches the space that they give it.
BTW you can see the entire "Magical Forest" montage at my "Vacation Pictures" thread.

I live where all these pics were taken. I live about 20 miles from Diablo Lake. I go there all the time to hike and fish.
That "something" mountain is called Sauk Mountain. About 10 miles from where I live.
And as a kid, I climbed Mt. Si about 3 times and it's where my mom was born!

Do you think that their photos are too large or that they ruin the quality of the pictures by resizing them?
In the first case I have to disagree with you. The photos are not just meant as a piece of information, but also as something that should be a pleasure for the eye. When you shrink a photo a lot of details are lost.

Man, on my gazeteer and it looks like theres an infinite number of places to hiking and fishing in central washington...

errr...on Mt Si? or the nearby Snoqualmie Falls
(which btw is where Twin Peaks was filmed)

What I'm referring to is a picture that doesn't have a lot of details to start off with, like for example a couple at a "hoe-down" or an antarctic wall of ice, and they blow it up to fill the entire page. They do this consistantly and annoyingly. My parents gave me a book of National Geographic pictures and instead of lugging it back home on the plane I decided to surreptitiously leave it my brothers house.

I still feel the photos are better if they're large and I don't mind them filling entire pages. Why is this so annoying?
Think about a movie you watch at the cinema and one you watch on your 28" television. Then you see what I mean.

Holy ****!!! Those are nice pics! I'll definitely use one as a background. That tropical paradise pic that replaced a view from Su-27's cockpit that, in turn, replaced Heidi Klum in a bathtub is getting old My only problem is: which one do I choose? They all look great!

No my mom was'nt born on the mountain. She was born in North Bend. And the name of the High School she attended was Mt. Si High School.

Thanks Russ,
BTW I'd like to give credit to my badass of a camera, the Olympus D-435. It's a little miracle really. The camera's got tons of little features but playing around with those seemed to make it worse than just pointing and clicking. If I was to break it right now (after 4 months usage) I'd prolly still get another one.
"No my mom was'nt born on the mountain. "
"She was born in North Bend"
BTW for those of you not "in the know", North Bend is where that famous cafe from Twin Peaks is that serves Cherry Pie and a "damn fine cup of coffee". The owner of the restaurant is the same guy that was the main chef of the restaurant 15 years, so the pie is still great and the coffee is still "damn fine".

So tell me Friends of, was'nt the North Cascades Highway one of the prettiest drives you've ever seen? I've lived in this area for nearly 30 years and I still love going over that pass to this day. I always see something new everytime. The sheer mountains you saw after the town of Newhalem are called "Little Alps." These mountains are before you came to Diablo Lake.
I've hiked to the south of Diablo Lake and fished some of the hidden lakes back in that area. I tell you, as soon as you bait your hook and get it in the water, fish on! And I mean 13 inch Rainbows-minimum! Of course, I will not tell you which lake I fish in....

heh
it's funny there's two towns on the cascade loops that have all dressed themselves up nice for the tourists. Leavenworth has completely refurbished all their buildings in the style of a Bavarian village, (it's a city ordinance) and another one (can't remember) has done themselves up in an old western style motif.

man o man o man
I believe you.
There's prolly all kinds of hidden treasures in those parts
(you can see all kinds of amazing stuff too when you're in an airplane flying over the pass)

I Lived in Washington for nineteen years and that is where all my family is. Mt. Si is a place that my stepbrother and I climbed. There are two of them little Si and Big Si. At the top of the mountain you will enjoy the lake that is never touched. It holds some great trout. Right up the road you can go visit Snoqualmie Falls. I was raised in Black Diamond in my teenage years, which for those of you that are familiar is by Crystal Mountain and Mt. Rainer. If one gets a chance go and visit, it is a place where the mountains and the ocean or engaged with one another and you can enjoy everything in one location... I have to agree the road trip in the pass is the best everytime..

Okay VF and BB, you now have an opportunity to send me chasing after more wallpapers in the great pacific northwest. Where would you recommend?

That "Western town" you're talking about could possbly be Twisp/Winthrop. It's on the eastern side of Highway 20 (North Cascades Highway.) That's the Highway I live on. East side of Stevens Pass is the Bavarian town of Leavenworth.
Now, for some great pics of Washington, I recommend 2 great places. First, anywhere in the Olympic Pennisula. Just Gorgeous country there. And second, the San Juan Islands. An aerial would be best, but there are sooo many islands in such a small area. And if you get tired of photos, just throw out your crab pot and catch a few crabs to eat.
Anacortes has it all. You can see Mount Baker from Guemes Island and the surrounding area.
And North Central Washington has the best photos when it's fall. If you get tired of photos, just visit a local fruit stand for fresh picked apples. Trust me on this one.
