Too old for sport?
Today we had an athletics carnival at school. Only a third of the school attended {the others wagged}, and not all of those who came actually participated in event - which is fine
I did the same thing when I went to high school {wagged}...
I was sports house captain in primary school {grade 1-7}. I used to compete in just about every event from high jump to the 800m. I am only faily short btw - 163cm, so it's not like I was amazing or anything. Anyway, when I went to high school, something changed.
After about a year I stopped competing. I stopped playing sport altogether pretty much. I guess other things seem to take priority... but why? Why does it suddenly become 'uncool' or not as appealing to participate in these days? Perhaps it is just an Australian thing? A Queensland thing?
Was/is this the case at your high school? Can you put your finger on the reason for this change? Am I full of it?

When I was back at high school (I finished year 12 last year), Sports day was the only day people actually wanted to turn up for. I usually only participated in the tug of war and our tug of war team we had only won in year 11. However, our chosen sports day colour never actually because that's where most of the waggers were.
Sports days for me, however, was more about hanging out with friends while you're waiting for the relays and the tug of war to start than it was for participation. Just because your team never won any accolades doesn't mean that you go home empty handed.
Oh how I loved those sports days. It was a shame that the school muckup day for year 12s didn't procede. I had some rather sinister plans for muckup day.

one will never be too old to sport it,not for others but himself or herself.i'l like to choose "rock" or "shake" to substitute for the verb "sport".and the sport will never be too old for anyone to exercise it.sport it for pleasure, neither for claps nor prize.
i see a movie titled "Bring It On- all or nothing" that tells a story of tow cheerleaders and their teams.i conclude from the film that cheering is a sport,so much as a sport of art.i have seen more than one hollywood pictures about rooters.
i' like pingpang, but i hardly play it. no sport for many years. i don not know why.

Quote: I guess other things seem to take priority... but why?
Probably because other things are more useful in the future.
Lots of colleges and universities here put a good emphasis on extracurricular activities and sports, but often times, if you're not good enough to make it to Varsity or JV, then doing a sport as a hobby is just a "waste of time." Anyone can say they play sports. Unless you have something to show for it, then it's not credible enough. :/ And so, if having a hobby like that isn't going to contribute to your future (unless you're REALLY passionate about it), then your time is better spent on improving other areas (such as grades and test scores).
When I was little, my parents had me doing all sorts of stuff. I took voice lessons, I danced ballet, I played piano, I swam, I played volleyball and badmington... but over time, things got weeded out one by one. In the end, I was only left with piano and badmington. And since no one in the US plays badmington, I was essentially only left with piano. Which means all sports got weeded out.

I haven't done sports since my 2nd grade(except karate) but when I started high school I started also doing sports underwater rugby(awesome game) and all normal like jogging etc.. for getting into good condition before army.
So in my case it was just the opposite.
