My thoughts exactly, the feature will be abused by an angry member who's disatisfied with the authorities, mods, people... HC once had the ability to delete whole thread by the creator of that thread, for the price of the Post count for ever post there was in that thread. And several people went suicide and deleted huge threads, no matter the cost... So, ability to delete posts for a thread creator is here out of question.

Now on the other hand, marking posts (Similar to "report to a moderator" in other forums) could help the overlooking job abit, however here we have again the abuse alert. So I think it could be available to someone with a specific Qp number or a rule of abusing, which could end up in penalties...

However, on my personal opinion, this also has flaws. Eg: A memeber, let's call him "Bush" is angry at some mods for the "incorrect" actions they took against him. Let's say he cannot mark all posts because there's penalty danger. So he decides to mark all toss, joke, abit offmark posts there is, and rulewise he would be halfly right...

Also the secret sources told me that administrator of this forum currently is very busy, and won't really have time in the upcomming weeks or even a month.

...mmh in total i had once about 20 QPs ...and some peeps may remember when i got mad with some forum idiots and deleted all my posts ...so that idea is a two-sided knife ...on the one hand it would have been cool to delete all the spammers out of MY thread (they couldve open their own) ...on the other hand when i got mad i wouldve deleted all the post in this threads, so as i couldnt do it there are still some good post in it and not all the good content is gone with the madness.

Im always for FREEDOM of SPEECH, so deleting by Moderators are enough already. Some spammers are a low price youve to pay for not killing the freedom of speech on your own.

How "possible" would this idea be anyways? (Making it so that only a thread starter has specific governing authority.)

Uh, hate to say but imagine a thread starter who makes a good thread but doesnt like certain members, so anything the unliked member tries to say is deleted no matter how quality or important it is... Then there will be other threads complaining about abuse and mistreatment, and there would be escelated angers raging lol.

About flagging.. Similar to "notify mod" which is in other forums. Not such a bad idea, not to hard to program.. Sure why not lol. It should also be easy for the mods to maintain notifications.
Example

* Each mod would have a unique list of notifications, which would be unaffected by other mods using their own unique list.

*It would be nice if a mod is notified if a second mod already went to see the post too.

* There could be a "number of notifications" next to a notification which would tell the mod how many times that post was sent to them.

* If some flagging flagger flags a lot of posts to spam a mod, the mod can click all boxes by that user, and hit delete to get rid of every notification from that user. (Potentialy this could be grounds for -qp or suspension, against the flagger not the mod) But the mod would then have to look at the number of notifications about the post, and be really careful not to delete an entire notification just because the flagger flags it. Infact... (leading to next idea)

* Number of notifications would have to be listed by a list of people who notified. Perhaps the notifications are ranked according to the quantity of notifications?

* I guess there could be other options like "save" or "mark" for some particular reference.

* There could be a "Go to post, and delete this notification at the same time" option (which could be easily taken back by the mod notifying himself) This would save the mod the trouble of clicking the link, reading the post, then having to go back and remember the link, then click it then hit delete. All he/she would have to do is click Go&Delete link.

* If possible a mod should see this...
View Profile | Edit Post | Quote Reply | Rate | Notify | UnNotify | which yes, a mod could use to revoke all notifications about a particular post.

and more
Thanks

With persuasive personality that people support behind the scenes Some mods are already power happy with deleting replies.
It proves that Val gave the mods this type of job to keep HC clean.
We all need to work together to keep the peace & keep it fair.

I garuntee there will be as much QP as well as -QP.

I think if that becomes more of a problem then mods need to step up, and if there's not enough mods there are more than enough people just dying for that sword

I think that people would abuse this power

Seeing as how this discussion seems to have run its course and it could be a while until Val has time to review it, I will send the Moderators a request to transfer this Poll to the Turban Tribunal.

Please feel free to continue the brainstorming and feedback there, if anything comes to mind.

Yep . . . I Voted For More Power

This is the exact reason why i should not be a Moderator. Because if I were ever to receive such power (a dark day indeed!) then I would do things like:

1. Retro-fit qps that I alone have considered to be quality material that, in some cases, was clearly considered to be average by the masses.

2. Delete threads of people I have clearly expressed opposition to. (don't worry The_Gootch, you're actually not that high on my list)

3. Edit posts of those members who ever disagreed with me.

4. Remove "sticky" threads that I thought were simply taking up space.

5. Forward all response email notifications sent to members like Peacemaker, Cat, Iris, Gandalfs_Girl, and any other female member commonly considered a valuable prized hotty . . . to my private personal box. (there can only be one)

6. I would also use my moderator status to form cliques of loyal secretive worshipper acolytes whom take the fall and claim responsibility for all (untrue) accusations made against me. I would be a dark and terrible King. All would love me and despair.

First of all, if there is any question that involves words "Would you like to have the power to" it will get at least half of the yes answers

With regards to helping moderators - I think there's more peace of mind for the mods to do their own job, than having to monitor how the helpers do it, to have an extra set of abuse, reports and squables to deal with that arise from these new powers.

With regards to rating system - too easy to abuse, also how many rating systems do we need on HC?

There are Forum Feedback threads and there is HCM to contact the moderators. By giving members easier and more anonymous tools it will create an excess of unneeded reports. A clever way of implementation could aid this. I've even had it planned out on paper several months ago. But at the moment my time is too short and the actual need for this feature is too small, as there are alternative means members can use to achieve the same goals quite easily if they have the wish to do so.

Exactly, why don't we all just have admin powers

But no, I agree with alot of new changes but I think the power to delete posts is going a little too far.

especially when you can erase evidence of what other people have said

Right now there is only one. In this system are terms and items such as red stars, QPs, and a handful of chosen members who judge by the power of option, which is extremely influenced by their human nature, which is the very downfal of our kind, ironic, as it might be, but I believe there is another way, a simple way if you might, which is suggested by the one who calls himself, Leo..

Anyways, the rating system would be voted for by members who make up this community who see in their opinion (not much unlike a mods) post with points applied which are not deserving, and posts without a point that are deserving.

Sorry about my matrix speak...
