Since we're in the Realm of lighting; One thing I should add about brightness and how we compare, even if it's a no-brainer, it is easy to overlook; both your machine & in-game settings.
i.e. My wife's settings are gamma low to me and therefore her games can get pretty dark. But, light can hurt her eyes. I otoh, seem immune to light-magic<VBG> man I'm good.
Aside from that, on an important note; I am a lot more sensitive about how I light maps now. Some folks do have vision problems and although I cannot easily account for that I still try to keep it in mind. Meaning, I usually remember them and add lots of light but I also want some dark stuff "sometimes" as well, and that's that. One mapmaker cannot make everyone happy anyway. And we do need very good armor.
Cheers and have fun, I know you will.

I have two questions about map editor. First is about Export option that is available when you are selecting object links. For example, when you are selecting <AdvMapStaticShared>, you can right-click on the object and choose to do: 'Export', 'Force export' and 'Hierarchical export'. What are these options for? I was hoping that they are exporting xdb files (and every file linked to it) from data.pak, but it seems that it does nothing for me.
Second thing is about map_editor_mode in editor cfg file. I remember that there are different modes that you can run the editor in, and I remember that I read somwhere about those mods, but I can't seem to find it again. Does anyone know what are right values for this option, and what are they for?

These are interesting questions! Too bad it seems nobody here at the moment seems to know the answer.
If you figure anything out I'd be interested in hearing your discoveries.

Well, I've been tinkering a little with map_editor_mode option. I set this varibale to value 10 (not sure why ), and it opened different mode of map editor. It added Resource and Object menus. Object menu has those export actions (and I still don't know what they do ).
On the other hand, Resource menu is quite interesting. It allows you to edit xdb files from data.pak file. Nice thing is, that it gives you visual editor for some of them (e.g. I was able to modify UI slightly with it using drag and drop ), and generally makes xdb editing easier. Also, when you modify something and save those changes, changed files are stored in data folder atomatically (along with all the subfolders from their path), so you can easily pack them in your mod. I'm still trying to discover all the things that are possible to do with resource editor.

I would like to ask how to make so I can choose the faction of the other player/computer AI. Right now I only can choose my own faction but not the others. Also how to make that my map is available in the multiplayer/hotseat maps

When starting a new map (unless for a campaign) always pick Multiplayer Arena. If you made it a single-mission map already...just rename to "Multiplayer" using 7Zip etc. Also, in Map-Properties you need to tick the box to allow human players under the "Player-properties" tab.

EDIT:
Ah, Markkur beat me to it!
@Hellburn
I've no idea how to manually set weeks, it seems it can be done, maybe only through scripting though.
@Castlevania
When you create a map there is an option to say if it is multiplayer or singleplayer map. You can't really change it back and forth so most people just choose multiplayer because you can still play multiplayer maps in single player.
I'd have to do some research for choosing factions, I can't remember the specifics. I always just give the player a random town, and in the properties set him to Player Type None.

Thank you the multyplayer arena fixed everything. Now I can pick the faction/town of all players both in multiplayer and in single player

Do you guys create your own maps from scratch or just edit random generated ones?

For me it's mostly from scratch. I tried editing randomly generated maps but it's tough to make the map look very good.
Although it was an easy way to make random team maps back when I used to play co-op with my brothers.

For me the fun is making something myself but that is also because "I have always had the time that's needed", not only to make a map but learn the editor which is about as user friendly as most people serving the public these days.
However, if you do have the time the H5 Editor is a great tool to learn.
In the past I did on a few occasions modify some RMG maps. <imo> RMG maps have to be modified because the generator does the same thing every time. It makes a "Rush" map and places luck and morale sites all over the place much like the standard H3 editor put scrolls everywhere.
But if you spend the time on an RMG you can certainly modify it and make a good map. If you're short on time, this is the way to go.
Here's a link to some of my creations maps

Hi guys. I have an issue while creating a map. I put (craigs tag) Dungeon Wall accidentally on the map above the ground and now I don't know how to remove it, because there's no eraser on this tab. If I create a the same height ground there, it will hide (just hide, not remove) the wall, but if I make like a transition between water and earth or just different level grounds ( with raise tool) I'll see it anyway. It gets very annoying because I tried almost everything, even finding it by using hex editor on unziped map.

Try opening the object list window, it's the rightmost button on the toolbar I think. That will list every object in the map and let you select the wall and delete it.

I would get rid of the water first and if then you cannot "drag and delete" then try #3 brush and Lower.

It's invisible on a same level. If I make different levels of ground (with raise or lower then it becomes visible. But I can't drag and delete it like an object, because it's something like terrain, idk. If I lower the above level of ground it will hide the wall, because levels of ground became the same. But if I raise it It will appear again. I tried almost everything in Tiles tab with terraforming operations. Could you please create a new map, put Craigs -> Dungeon Wall in it, make it visible by making different levels ground around it (by means of raise, lower tool, if you need to) and then remove it.

I recreated your making crag above-ground and ran into the same thing. I've also only used crags underground so this was a first. To not see the crags the spot had to either be all "Ocean" or had to have none.
Honestly I doubt the editor was meant to place crags above ground since they are actually dungeon-walls and because when I used the tool they did not show or show me where they were.
The only object I have used is the single dwarven-wall? (can't remember what it's called) that's the only wall-thing I ever use upstairs.
Fyi, I did make the area look like land again with no crags, then I saved but the crags were still there when I used the tools again. The editor sometimes gets "frozen in a state" and I have had to save, close the editor and then re-open the map to see my changes. Weird stuff like teams etc.
You might give that a go.

Is there a chance that somebody knows how GroundTerrain.bin is made. I found out that craigs are coded by [ XX XX 01 XX XX NN XX XX ] every 8 bytes. where 01 is a mark of Craigs, X is any hex code ([0-F]) , NN is Number of Wall ( 00 -07). e.g. [ 40 e4 01 00 40 00 00 00 ]
