need some help (info) on HOMM 3 SOD...
first of all
hi to all,i'm new to this forum,i found it very nice and helpful..
so heres is/are my questions...(i'm not that old to this game)
i'm playing a single scenario on HOMM 3 SOD and i got some questions about my heroes..
first of all i started on castle town with ingham(cleric) and as i was exploring the rest of the map and upgrating my hero on higher levels i bought from the tavern straker(death knight) (i didnt know that you can buy heroes with high level, experience and lots of artifacts..)anyway,
http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/4926/inghamlh8.jpg
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/1223/strakerln3.jpg
now..my question is that ingham is my "good" hero and straker is my secondary good hero, but the thing is that even though ingham is on a higher level than straker,he can't perform the magic that straker can..
for example,
with ingham on the spell "visions (2nd lev)" i cant se my enemys info(army,strengh...),but with straker i can.
a more serious problem is that with straker when i do the "town portal (4th lev)" spell it shows me my towns and i select wich town i want to be transfered..
but with ingham it just transfers me on the nearest available town without letting me select the town...(witch the most times isnt the town i'd like to be transfered..)
why is this happening??? (note:every town i got is fully developed)
i checked the skills (and artifacts) on both heroes but i cant figure out why ingham cant do magic like straker, the only
thing that i thought for that is maybe it's because ingahm is a cleric and cleric's cant do that magic, but with ingham on other games/maps i could do the "visions" spell....
and the my other question is,
why every time i attack an enemy, the enemy always fled's?
thanks in advance
p.s.sorry my long post..and i posted the pic's of my heroes just to see their level, experience and other,to tell my if i have something wrong an i cant perform the magic i want..

The effect of spells depend on the development of the certain school of magic. Townportal is a spell which belongs to earth magic for example (check that in the manual for all other spells). If ur hero has at least advanced earth magic, he can chose the town he wants to travel to, and the spell costs less spellpoints. Without earthmagic, or with only basic, u will travel to the nearest town with higher spellcosts.
Visions belongs to all magic schools. If u are expert in any school, u can use this spell to its full potential (all infos..)
Haste is a spell which belongs to the magic school of Air. If ur hero doesn't have airmagic, he could cast it on ONE unit per round in battle with specific costs. If he is expert in airmagic, he can cast it on ALL units (all units which could be effected by level 1 spells..) in 1 round.
So it will really help ya a lot if u read the manual (in your main Heroes directory).

You can prevent enemy from fleeing in two ways:
1. Kill your enemy before they even get to move
2. The artifact: Shackles of War will prevent both sides from retreating.
Also note that if you are defending a siege, you may not flee unless you are Stronghold and have built the escape tunnel.

OK, if u can't find the manual, u should take a look at this great info site for H3: AoH. Many usefull stuff to read, but the "tactic" descriptions for all the towns need some slightly corrections.
We started to "upgrade" these here in the library, maybe u wanna take a look on each fraction:
Necropolis
Inferno
Dungeon
Conflux
Fortress
Stronghold
Tower
Rampart
Castle
About the enemy fled:
You have 4 possibilities to prevent the enemy from fleeing:
1. Attack him in a town (as mentioned, only stronghold has the ability to create an escape tunnel, but AI rarely builds it)
2. Get the artefact "Shackles of War" and put it on before u enter the battle.
3. Try to blind (or hypnotize) his units one after the other. If the AI has no unit to act with (be aware: balista and first aid tent count as units "under control" too, if a hero has either artillery or first aid as secondary skill!!).
4. Try to capture all his towns first (or at least all towns which have a tavern built!). Without a tavern, AI hero will never flee, coz he can't rebuy him/her.
If u still have questions, feel free to ask...

I have to admit, I'm slightly confused about the screenshots that were posted. Why does the heroes' speciality take 3 fields (i.e. 3 zombies for straker, 3 monks for Ingham) Is it some older/different version of heroes (the picture for attack is also diffent, an axe rather than 2 swords).
Edit: Okay, nvm. Just got WoG, question answered

yes..why is that?
is it like having 3 field than 1 makes the speciality stronger?
