I'm not sure what Warcraft ideas your talking about but Warcraft id a good game.
HOMM needs to be like a chess game, where every unit is different, so you have to plan your moves. There needs to be random events so if you play the same map over it would be different. Random events could be different creatures (it has this already), different resources (this too), weather, wind, choices for chest (has), random artifacts (has), production each week (has), battle results (has), etc.

Artifact Editor
I think this was mentioned before, but what if you had a drawing progam that allowed you to change the looks of an artifact and then change the stats (add attack, defense, spells, resources, etc.). Then you could use it in a game you created. You could also have it when you use 3 or 4 of the items then you get a bonus (like in the game now). You could take an existing hat and modify it to be a new hat, get a shield and modify it, etc.

Hello there...
I totally agree with some posts here. I like the SirDunco's idea about the lava eruptions and the changing terrains is cool. I like the idea of weather, but the on with ballons... I dont think it will fit.

Artifact editor.
Artifact editor is for making new artifacts, not for editing the existing ones.

Artifact Editor
Sorry Jarret. I was talking about the hot air baloon idea. There is a similar thing in Warcraft. I agree that warcaft is a good game. Now, I agree that it should be more of a complicated game. Like if there is extreme heat, there are fires and your sawmill decreases production. If there is too much rain your sulfur dune gets flooded as does the ore pit. This sort of stuff.
P.S.: For more on the Artifact Editor go to the topic Artifacts.

Maybe there could be creatures that roamed around and attacked either player. Maybe they could be limited to certain areas or they would ally with a hero that had expert leadership and diplomacy.

Coll ideas.
I agree with most of the posts here, but the hot air balloon doesn't fit into a fantasy world. I mean why make a balloon, when you colud magically propell some kind of a platform, which can carry a lot more into the air.

NO
No baloon, no flying machine, no complications.
I guess that the rain and heat idea could work but also i think that the effects shouldn't be so great (flooding), also I think that certain troops should have their morale changed when there is rain or heat (according to the troop), and also that morale affects not only extra turns but also if a unit has more morale it does damage more closer to the max damage, and with less morale less damage and that luck will affect also specialty working (with high luck, mighty gorgon's gaze should kill more units).

Idea
Also the heat, rain or snow would affect the effectivens of the troops fighting. Like for Ice units they would act as if cursed, while units which like heat would act as if blesed. Of course that the baloon doesn't fit in. It is not a fantasy thing.

Hey, I have an idea...
Wouldn't it be kool to be able to devide your troops into stacks b4 combat in the tactics round? It would bring a little more strategy into combat. And to be able to do this you'd be forced to have expert tactics.
Or maybe tactics would be a to powerful skill then. You could make the devide option to a skill, and to get that you'd be forced to have the tactics skill. (WOW, a skill tree)

Maybe only Master Tactics should allow it, and not only in b4 battle but also in the middle (read about it in some thread, I don't remember, I think it's called "Artifacts that increase secondary skills").

Tactics
Yeah, the tactics should allow you to stck troops up in the middle of a battle. If there should be another level called master then this could be done.

Roaming Creatures
What if you could program creatures to either:
1. fixed (to guard mines, etc.)
2. fairly aggressive (if ANY hero ends its move within 3 spaces of a creature the creature moves and attacks that hero).
3. aggressive (the creature roams around randomly, if it comes within 3 spaces of a hero, castle, or outpost it attacks it).

back to the spell books,
maby, have the level 5 spell in the mage guild be castle specific, have 4 level 5 spells for each town (one for each ellement), only accecable from that town, which would be superior spells when used with that town creature,
mass animate dead for necroes,
mass blood lust for fortress,
i dont' know, maby i'm the only one that hates building the fith level mage guild because the spell generaly sucks,
also, i think spells that effect the turrain, such as makeing a volcano erupt to block a passage, a spell that will clear a mountain, make ground cursed, uncursed, blessed, these would all be high level mage guild, so it wouldn't be used by a level 1 hero to avoid fighting the monster you put there when you made the map so the hero wouldn't be able to get it untill he could kill 10 arch devils ;P

Nope
I dissagree with this. I like to build the 5th level mage guild. It is true that the spell sometimes sucks. Also there should be something like a university where a heroe would stay for one week or less and learn some spells.

more ideas
It would be nice if you could buy all your creatures in your castle on the 1st day of the week with just ONE click of the button.
What about pirates (dead) sailing ghost ships and you could attack them and get their treasures, like gold, resources, and an artifact?
What about a spell that could help rebuild your castle wall during combat?

digging
I think digging should be used more.
Like dig for the grail. Dig for resources, and you should be able to bury a treasure and give clues (on sign posts), but you have to dig to find it>

I think there should be some artifacts that can only be used by certain heroes. Like ones that add attack and defense, just some spells that can't be used by certain heroes. That way it would be more Might vs Magic.
