Good Stuff
You got me too hotcakes.
To those of you who have the right to participate in your electoral process and decide to forgo it, for shame. Men and women who are better than you have fought and died for your right to stand on the sidelines and whine about where your slice of prosperity is. It is your duty as a citizen of your nation to vote. Scratch that. Civic laziness isn't just reprehensible, it should be downright criminal.
In my country an army of white evangelicals formed over twenty years ago and has been a terrific voting bloc for the republican party since. They are organized. They are energetic. And they have succeeded in shaping republican party policy.
If you are an adherent to their ideals I have nothing to say to you other than I will fight you with every vote I have.
If you disagree with their dogma yet lack the will to stand up to them then you're a wet noodle; a spineless example of the reasons why many americans despise the smug eggheads who dominate the modern left. I despise you and your cowardice.
To those of you who claim there is no difference between the parties in my goverment, I challenge you to explain yourselves. If that is the crutch you choose to use to explain your own laziness and unwillingness to vote, then you are as well effectively silenced. Please go, drink lots of bleach, and die.
As far as the electoral college is concerned, it is a unique part of our country and I for one think it's a pretty damn good policy to have it.

The_gootch, although I encourage everyone to vote.. you must know that both bush and Kerry are members of the skull & bones society? They have both sworn loyalty to the society above the loyalty to the country. As a military person this loyalty stuff must have some meaning to you. Unless u somehow believe they are not in skull & bones.
It's kinda crappy to vote between 2 ppl who are basically in the same secret club? lol

Right. Till such time that it is proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Bush and Kerry are hiding much more than the secret Skull & Bones handshake and the location of their Fruit Loops decoder ring from the public that isn't going to even enter my consciousness.
I heard they're both Free Masons as well. You have some glib, Monetesque comment about that fraternity?
Am I to give any credence to those who pander to the brainless conspiracists that populate cyberspace? I suppose next you're going to tell me that Loose Change 2nd edition proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the cabal of evil right wing members from the N.W.O. were responsible for bringing down the towers.

Awesome! I've always wanted to know what normal people think about those things. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the matter - this has increased my conciousness.

Quote: Pfffffft, I'm personally sick and tired of having to choose between dumb and dumber when it comes to an election. Bush is retarded, at least to a degree (oh don't start crying bleeding hearts). Kerry wasn't much better in my personal opinion. When on TV they both managed those dumb @$$ looks on their faces. People have called me liberal before, which I can't quite say I'm that exactly but I have never aligned myself with just one party. And now? Now I've gotten to the point where I'm thinking of writing my own fricken name down on the ballot. Yeah, I've thought about it. It would be useless, a wasted vote, and it wouldn't really prove a point but I know one thing, It would sure as hell make me feel better about things.
Ohhhhh A-*******-men to that.
I am soooo with you on that one.
I have usualy gone on the Dem lines, but this last election was something of a hitch for me.
Both Kerry and Bush looked beyond ridiculous and while I KNOW my vote counts for **** next to the electoral college which will decide ultimately WHO is President...why bother?
I picked what I will refer to as the "lesser of the evils" because at least I knew if Bush continued to be a retard, people would deal with him...
I just couldnt be sure where Kerry stood on ANY thing because as far as I was concerned he was the WAFFLE King...OMFG.
He couldn't decide which end of things he was on, much less which way was up, and if he got caught up he went and switched his view....naughty.
Bush got my vote but not for the reasons people would think. LOL
Sad.

As the crazy white evangelical you all have come to love, I'd like to say that I voted Kerry last election and disagree with Bush and the republicans on many issues, the war in particular.

heh, it really sucks here in Australia.
You got it lucky, where you don't have to vote, well we do.
If we do not vote, we get a fine of about $450, and that sucks, especially for people (such as myself) who don't follow much of the politics and who do not really care.

They seriously fine you that much money if you do NOT vote?
Wowsers.
I think more people in the states should vote, but sadly in the end I wish I could say our votes actually count for something.
The final vote isnt made by the people here, it is made by the electoral college.
Why don't you care so much about the politics of your country? Just asking because I am seriously curious.

william...
you get off cheap... not voting should be penalised worse
and yeah, even if the vote doesn't count most of the time (or at least feels so), all people should be involved in politics, thats the whole point... and i don't mean the inter-party crap

Yes we get fined if we do not vote.
I dunno why I don't care too much, maybe because I do not understand half the stuff they are on about.
I do care about Australia, but I just do not understand politics, that's why I do not like it.
However, I think this might be a Democrat country (I think, thats what I heard), and I also heard that if it is that, then we should be given the freedom to vote or not vote if we don't want to.
Can somebody from Australia and is into Politics help me out

Compulsory voting has it's positives and negatives uhuh. If you vote the same way I do then hehee
Nah it is good if people really know what they are voting for - and I think it should make people take an interest and have their say in where their tax dollar goes. I think that if it was not compulsory then mainly conservatives would vote and that wouldn't be very good either...
I moved once and voted in the wrong electorate so my vote didn't count and they just gave me a warning - no fine.
*shrug*
William if you're not sure just HCM me and I'll tell you who to vote for hehee

Well, good thing for the 26th ammendment to the US Constitution. If it weren't for the Vietnam War, it it might have been illegal for me to do it until I turned 21. "Old enough to fight, old enough to do it" was the slogan.
Well, contrary to the saying that you always remember your first time, I barely remember anything about it other than I did it. I'm not sure, but I think it might have been in the 1976 election year. I was young and naive, but somehow I managed to blunder my way through it.
