So this doesn't really make a lot of sense if you think about it.

The point I'm driving at is wouldn't it be more logical if senior citizens were video game addicts? They have all the time in the world to waste on useless pursuits. They don't have jobs to go to, no responsibilities, and spouses really don't have any room to complain. Plus every month old people get social security checks that they can blow on MMPORGS. I mean are old people so different that they would find bingo and shuffleboard more stimulating than World of Warcraft? Where's the logic?

 This would be a great way for the elderly to socialise though - playing games online.
Some of the students at my school do 'workshops' with people living in retirement villages/homes on basic computer skills and email - internet searching etc. Once they get the hang of it they seem to embrace it
maybe we could start trying to get them onto this - any recommendations for games?
I guess when we are 80 we will be the generation addicted to online computer games {if we aren't becoming godlike and infinate, which hopefully we will be so I for one will probably still have to work...  }
However, by then there will probably be some other amusement we neglect 
a little like playing HOMM3 when 5 is so much fancier

How awkward must the wives feel. On the right hand side there's a widow crying over her husband that gambled away millions and committed suicide. On the left hand side there's a widow sobbing over her husband who died due to a cocaine overdose. And finally, last but (not?) least, there's the widow in between whose husband died due to 'overgaming'. Is that not the funniest thing you've ever heard?
Unless of course the group consists of virtual meetings between Queen's and/or Princess's who's husbands were slain by some sort of creature in the game.

Mostly, the game "widows" arent really widows in that sense, its a metaphor because the husband spends all his time playing games.
This is well documented but its not a new phenomena. Before video games there were sports widows, golf widows, work widows, etc. Its just the latest preoccupation.
I spent time in both worlds. I played heroes for years and everquest for years. Heroes is healthier as a long term preoccupation imo. As for similarities, with Everquest you can organize armies of real people to wage virtual battles with a computer "boss" and his hordes. In Heroes you organize imaginary armies to do battle with a human adversary.
EQ Guilds are always looking for new players.
