The Free Ryzom Project
Some of you may be familiar with a MMORPG released in 2004 titled The Saga of Ryzom... I bet most of you are not. Some of you, may know that the game is superior to WoW in every possible aspect (and if you don't believe me, there are videos to prove it). Some of you, may be aware that the company behind it is soon going to file for bankrupcy.
And here is where we come in:
In a courageous and noble effort to save the game and offer something to all gamers, some of the developers decided to raise money in order to buy the source code of the game from the company and release it under the GPL, making it an opensource project (which practically means that no company will own the game, but you, me and the guy next door will, along with the rest of humanity).
That effort is The Free Ryzom Project and if you believe you can spare a coin to help them, do so. If you need to ask parents first, please by all means do. Those of you doubting they can cough up the money, do not make a fake offer, it may kill the whole issue.

Ryzoom bankrupt? I've just seen them spend crazy money on advertising on various gaming sites over the internet!

the only reason this game has not conquered the MMORPG arena, is bad marketing... it has everything

That makes sense. The marketing they are doing is very inefficient in terms of ridiculous prices they are paying for it.

newsflash:
staying true to their purpose and vision, the Free Software Foundation (where the -original- RMS is) just donated 45.000 (some say 60.000) euros to the Free Ryzom Campaign
