The best suggestion I have seen so far is in the Alternative creature post, where the Pegasi would be offered as an alternative to either the Unicorn or the Treant.
In a more realistic approach, however, the best solution would probably be to have it allied with the plains-people of Ranaar (Human or Centaur). The plains-people should be followered of the Dragon of Air, and the Pegasi would fit well into this context.

New idea:
edit the cavalier, delete the rider from it, and keep only th horse. Give the horse angel's wings.
