Multiplayer?
Just bought H5. Won't be ready for multiplay anytime soon, if at all, but is TOH still the main arena for multiplay or did Ubi create their own hotspot?

Got into it pretty serious for a few years, but hardly play at all anymore.
After playing about 10 hours worth of the single player campaign, here is my initial impression of H5:
1. What the snow is up with the ridiculous 3D map? PLEASE give me back the fast simple to use 2D map. If I have to spend 2 more seconds adjusting the snowing camera in order to move somewhere I will burn this snowing game CD.
2. Its the same game. Thats good and bad. The good is the basic engine we know and love is back with improvements. The bad is the basic engine we know and love is back with many of the same problems as the old versions and some new ones.
3. Is it my imagination or is this new version not as user friendly as the old ones? Does Ubisoft suck?
4. Is it to much to ask to be able to speed up combat by hitting the auto button and having the computer play at least somewhat intelligently? I know AI will never be as smart as us, but jesus, its the 5th version of this game, I think a programmer should kinda know how a fight should go by now......
5. Why can't they give us a decent manual instead of having to rely on a 250 page player made manual and having to look on websites constantly?
Sorry for the rant, I guess I expected more from a 5th remake version that took years to make.

update:
Game isn't as bad as I first thought. I'm using the classic view, so no camera problems, just a few things hidden behind trees, but I can live with that.
The AI isn't as bad as I thought either. It still does bonehead stuff, but for a decent number of the fights, it does the job and speeds up the game. Hitting replay is easy. I'm playing the campaigns on hard setting (hardest would just make the games take longer) and its a decent challenge on some of the maps.

the game is good foo. I don't know why the community antagonism on H5 is so strong. Back when it was first released, yes, there were problems, but with 1.4 or HOF, its pretty much as good as it gets. We're just older, and more burned out on heroes in general.

I've yet to play it multiplayer, but I'm hearing it kinda sucks. The world is going Multiplayer. Christ, World of Warcraft has how many subscribers now? 30 million worldwide? They run about 200 servers. Wake up and smell the change in how business is done Ubi......

The number of subscribers a game has doesn't say much about the game itself.
It's what is more appealing to you personally.
In my opinion any heroes series was better than World of Warcraft and yet they've never reached even 1% of the former's players. Why ? Because they were worse games ? Hardly.
Heroes isn't as commercial and kid-oriented as WoW, it requires a somewhat mature style of play in order to have a good playerbase that will always accept you as an opponent.
WoW has lost its appeal to me. The moment a game doesn't make the difference between skill and time spent, that's when I stop playing it, and WoW was never about skill, only about leaving everything else in life aside in its favor killing any or all social interactions you might have or had.

Agree with and support to you
When spending more time = higher level and doing well in game without any thinking imho is a waste of time.
Love heroes because it requires lot of thinking and a new game is reset back to level 1 and not log on online with a higher level each day.

When it comes to time required to finish a game, there isn't many games worse than heroes. I remember 18 hour multiplayer matches....
I'm having fun with the campaigns right now so we'll see what develops. Bottom line, either WoW or H5, they both take a lot of time that I really don't have.

They both take time, but the difference between them is that you can save a Heroes game, play 2-3 games a month and don't care that much about it, whereas if you played only that much in WoW, there would be no future for you in the game.

Very true, the time commitments in WoW to accomplish stuff that keeps you well geared is huge. H5 you can walk away from and the only thing you lose is the amount of practice and tricks you learn from playing more often. I've basically stopped playing WoW until the expansion comes out mid month January.
Nevermind I took a week off work when the ex. pac. hits.......

So how are the TOH games going? Are all the factions about equal in strength? Some better at rushing? Are heroes being built up to use their ultimate abilities or are the games over to quick?
I remember we used to never play with the death faction in H4 because of how stupid strong it got. If you got chaos you were always stoked to get the blackies.

I think the factions are very equal...barring dougal from any map that lasts more than 3 weeks lol, and as for desyncs....I only get about 1 every 10 games and thats ok with me to keep playing.
One question though....why doesnt imbue arrow and rain of arrows work sometimes in 2.0?
