Heroes V map reviews

What map(s) have you played? Did you like it/dislike it? Was it good for multiplayer? Was it good for singleplayer with a creative/interresting storyline? Please comment!

Well, since there doesn't seem to be an official maps review thread for HeroesV maps I figured I would start one. There are lots of maps to play and new ones being created constantly but there is not a lot of feedback for those coming to HC looking for quality custom maps. If you have comments about any map at all please post them here.

So I'll start with my comments. The first and only custom map I have played so far is "A Dance for Two". All in the spirit of constructive criticism, the map started off quite fun to play. Like it says in the description you need to pick your battles and some easier ones reap greater rewards than harder ones. It makes you think at first and really plan out your strategy. Eventually you get strong enough that most battles are easy but there are always ones that are challenging. A few negatives to the map, though, is that there are really only two ways to encounter the opponent, eiteher work your way through the map wich consists of a series of "pods" each containing more creature dwellings, mines, and battles and ofcourse heavy border guards or run into the opponent in the one area that can be teleported to. Going from pod to pod doing the same things gets to be a bit repetitive and boring. A major problem I found is that the stack of phoenix boarder guards is too powerful relative to what is provided in the map up to that point and the stack is not constant...it has weekly growth. When I got to that battle I was fighting a "swarm" of Phoenix (given Phoenix special ability, double that number). I figured maybe I could just wait a while and try to build up my army more but the problem is that the stack also increases and it will always outpace your hero in the power ratio. There arent enough creatures to recruit and your hero cant get high enough level up to that point to make fighting that stack of phoenix a good choice without losing a majority of your army. Now, the problem is that if you break through that stack to reach the opponent but the opponent doesn't break through their equivalent stack, you can see that your army will essentially be decimated relative to theirs. The other option is to attack the opponent in the teleport area but then again if you lose any notable amount of army on that battle then you definitely cannot break through that stack of phoenix and therefore cannot finish the map. What I found is that the opponent (computer) will not attack their stack of phoenix...instead they will sit around collecting army and it is up to you to go to them. If you send your main hero to the teleport area to claim what is in there they will simply send their main over to take it back because their main hero has nothing better to do. Now, I played this map on hard setting instead of normal which is what it says it is adjusted for but on normal I think most of the battles would be way too easy.

* I would reccommend either setting that stack of Phoenix to a static number or making it start out smaller so it is more reasonable when the hero reaches it (keep in mind that the number of phoenix you see is essentially doubled when you actually fight them).

* I would reccommend adding at least another route in which to reach the opponent, maybe have a quest that the hero must complete to gain an artifact or spell...or maybe another teleport.

* In the pod with the Hydra border guards there is a crystal of revelation guarded by Archmages that cant be reached because a lake is in the way.
