1. You need to play on hard (more creatures -> more experience).
2. You need to take almost any fight. First few times will be with loses, but after few games you will be better .

It was on hard. First try with dungeon (I tried hard mode with Sylvan once, but the computer attacked me way before I was ready for him to. I had no idea he would come over at the end of week 3 ).
What are the popular maps used in competitive multiplayer?
Can Sinitar only take slow walkers until he levels up some and gets some mana? Yrwanna was doing great in the mana department, but she never got destructive...

Hourglass is a good map for training (although I still don't like maps that are too rich and too swarmed with artifacts). Try to "break" (defeat the 50+ level 7 units in the middle, guarding the path to your enemy) in 6 weeks, then make it 5 weeks, then 4. If you can do it within third week, you are ready to play online, more or less. You may not be able to defeat your enemy, but at least you will not lag behind. Speed is something you need in this game - if you wander around with your hero aimlessly, you will most likely lose. That's why you need to know the map, btw.
As for the dragons, sometimes dragogeddon is the only logical way of fighting your overbuffed enemy. So yes, blacks are useful, and reds aren't bad too tbh, just for other occasions. Playstyle evolved a bit. To be a decent player, you need to use your army as effectively as your destructive. To be a good player, you should play in unpredictable way (going for dark or light, with summoning for super-powerful phoenix is something you may want to consider - arcane intiution will help you to gain some lower level necessary spells as you creep. Try light/might warlock sometime, too.)

Actually HG is not a god map for training. You need to know a faction very well in order to play it good there. Also, even experienced players can't break there in week 3 many times.
I recommend art of war for learning no-stalker-abuse dungeon, which in fact is a must-know creeping. Unless you really know how to use your army, stalkers won't do you any good.

I disagree. HG, as much as I hate it, taught me how to play fast - or get trashed. Maybe its not the best map for beginners, but if you know what to do already, I'd call it a good training.

Well, for instance, you need to use that shadow dragon a lot till the end of week 1. I wouldn't say it's standard creeping. There's also not much fury-creeping and this leads to a handicap in other maps. Then it's stalker creeping, also not too useful on some maps. Breaking the guards with stalkers only requires again good knowledge of your power, so i'd recommend trying first with hydras and 6 furies which is standard breaking technique on many maps. So, as far as i see it... not really a good map for learning.

I'd advise any small/normal map that has a town starting at lvl3 (tavern and tier 1 dwelling built)
Maps that I'd suggest are Mystic Vale and Peninsula. They're pretty fast rushing maps with easily accessible eldrich wells. On those maps lvl 8 on hard is normally acheivable by the end of week 1 if you kill nearly everything in sight, real fast players may go up to lvl 10 I believe.
Sinitar is very good (if not the best), because he has early destructive. The basic Sinitar start is : master of fire -> advanced destructive -> secrets of destruction. Once you get that your mana problems are more or less over.

Hehe I remember that samiekl's advice back when I was learning dungeon was to play let's fight and clear all mines(horde of tier 3) on week 1. That did help a lot.
When I get the time I'll post some replays.

Breaking on Hourglass week 3 is an absolute abstract for me I hope this means teleporting over the garrison?

Dude, what do you mean how is it supposed to work?
you bring 6 stacks of 1 fury and as many hydras as you can gather: in week 1:castle+ hydras in town, citadel + hydras in 2 other towns + hydra dwelling)
week 2 finish castle in 2 towns. Do the math and see how many hydras you get in week 3.
Then use spells to kill the guard.

Considering the wind direction is NNE, air presure between 0 and 100 Hp the approximate hydra value in castle should be 100 with an error factor of ~90%.

The guardpost on Hourglass? The one with 200 of each elemental, 50 death knights, and 20 phoenixes? And people break that on week 3? Uh... I think I should start playing a different game

But what for? What is the use of these single Furies?

None of your (i mean dungeon) units match phoenix's initiative except furies. Without them your hydra will quickly become history.
@Siyana
No, you just need some more practice, remember all heroes start from zero.

I think it's been done with all factions other than fortress and orcs but since then who knows. There are some crazy guys out there, people that have played the map over 100 times
It's not exactly a beginner map - takes great skill, luck and planning ahead. The map itself gives you the means to do it, in a regular map it would be kinda impossible.
