ADAM - Automatic Digital Artificial Moderator
Over the last few months I've been busy programming something that will change HC forever for the better. Introducing ADAM - Automatic Digital Artificial Moderator, or in other words - a script that behaves like a moderator. Of course no script can do what a real moderator can do, for example selecting quality posts - if there is an algorithm that results in a QP, there would be many QP hunters taking advantage of it. And what algorithm can tell quality in the first place... But simple things such as inspecting posts for simple COC breaches, SPAM and even using keywords to determine if a thread belongs in another forum are programmable, and result in a great advantage because mods are not always around and can't read every post in every forum, while ADAM can.
To make it easier to debug ADAM, it will make a post every time it takes action in the relevant thread, so there will be no confusion as to whether something was done by ADAM or by a living and breathing moderator  Another important issue that I've had to take into consideration is that HC consists of over quarter of a million posts, each of which consists of a lot of words, and ADAM will have to sift through it all, which could easily overload the server CPU. So I've set the ADAM script process to run at a very low CPU priority, to make sure that it does not cause enough system load to affect HC loading times. To make ADAM a bit more human, prior to taking actions it will appear "online" and even display what it is doing in HCM window, just like a regular mod/member, except that the activity may change faster
Currently ADAM can:
1. Give progressive penalties/silences to obvious COC breaches such as insults and bad language.
2. Move threads based on content. (While testing on database copy, the current algorithms worked quite well, but this might still need a bit of polishing - report if it misfires by moving a thread into unrelated forum).
3. Detecting SPAM and moving it to VW for a real moderator to deal with (this one is still a bit beta, may be some misfires, I'll just have to adjust it as we test it in practice).
Future possibilities:
1. Analyzing content of every new post instantly instead of adding it to the high priority "sifting queue".
2. Being able to HCM a thread link to ADAM to put it in the medium priority "sifting queue".
Overall, I've put a LOT of work into this. My vision was a "RoboMod" that takes the boring tasks away from real moderators and also makes SPAM and basic COC breaches a lot more difficult to get away with. This means the overall quality of the forum will improve, and the moderators can devote their time to more creative ways of improving the forums. As much as I hate to say it, and I'm sure you'll agree, HC needs this. Also I believe this is something that has never been done before on any other forum! Well, maybe auto censoring, but not a script that also moves threads, fights spam and imitates moderator behavior. Heh, I feel like such a good evil scientist!

HC really needs this kind of thing 
After all, moderators do have personal lives and can't be online 24/7, hunting for COC breaches.

It will be very good if ADAM can merge 2 or more consecutive post, posted by 1 member. This will make part of the threads smaller and remove some spam...
Also to check the posts for quoted images and remove part of the bb code, is really harassing to see 2 consecutive post with 5 equal 800x600 pics.

Wow! Great idea, Val.
That's exactly what HC needs-a moderator that will work according to the CoC only.
Human moderators have problem of personal relations with people, that might make them do different decisions.
I'm sure that this moderator won't have this kind of things.

I have a feeling this won't end up good... But it might add some fun to the forum. Trying to find a way to spam so that Adam can't notice it, for example 
Could you add sound effects to him? Like, if a member is banned, he says "Hasta la vista... baby" when that member tries to log in... That would be SO awesome

Could you believe that! I hope it turns out ok and even if I'm sceptic about its effectiveness I find the idea most interesting-unless it's an attempt for the mods not to face their duties

So guys - you really must watch the SPAM please.
It would be very helpful if you all could report any bugs - or threads that you think should not have been moved etc (with links too please). Its done well in most of the testing, but there is always a chance that things could be moved to the wrong forum etc.

I still think implementing this system without testing it on a smaller-scale is a bad idea. Even though it seems to be working fine now, things could go wrong later on. I mean, how complex could this algorithm really be?
Please reconsider using ADAM; it's not too late. Just ask the mods to step up a bit more and things will be just fine.
