Heritage of Deleb
Finally finished new multi-player map - hope you will have some good gaming on this one, folks...
Concept of the map:
Basic idea was to create a map that won’t take 8+ hrs to finish. Albeit I don’t mind long games in general, recent experience is that it is practically impossible to finsh the game in one sitting. Even more, quite often two sittings are not enough. Somewhat this corresponds with concerns of Destro in another thread – there are plenty of large, closed maps where you can sit on your side for at least 4 weeks. However, if somebody wants a fast game, map options are very limited.
At this point came the decision that there is some free market-share for new map and idea of “Heritage of Deleb” was born.
Link for downloading: Heritage of Deleb (TotE-ver.1.1) or get it from ToH map page
Some more info on map
Map name: Heritage of Deleb
Authors: Zilonite and Signe
Email for comments/suggestions: arnis_buka@yahoo.com
Play-testers: insatiable (bacharakis@yahoo.gr); the Teacher (biobogo@hotmail.com)
Size: 96x96, no underground
Number of players: 2
Disabled spells: Conjure Phoenix
Disabled heroes: Vittorio, Havez, Kaspar, Telsek. Deleb is on the map, but you can’t pick her as a starting hero.
Current status:
Map is finished and play-tested by me several times in hotseat and by few other dudes couple of times. So I hope no more bugs left.
Storyline of the map:
Time: 843 YSD Place: Ashan during invasion of the demons
As marsh of the demons went on, more and more of formerly fertile lands of middle-Ashan were covered with hell ashes and rivers of lava. One of the most succesfull Demon generals - Deleb - as a reward from Souvereign recieved the title of the Countess and stripe of land to reign over. Yet fortune in the court of Souvereign never lasts for long: soon Souvereign accused Deleb for stealing his favorite ring and locked her away in lonely prison tower, guarded by the most ferocios Pit Lords.
Meanwhile two local nobles used imprisonment of Deleb to their own ends and claimed dominance over the former county of Deleb...
Screenshoots:
P.S. My sincere tnx to all of you who took a look at the beta version of the map, especially insatiable for his detailed comments!

2 thumbs up for this one. I played a game (well most of it) with Fiur on this map and its alot of fun.
It has a dead mans lake feel to it, but your hero can potentially be much more powerful. EDIT: I guess I should add that BOTH heroes can be much more powerful.
I also think this map will make an amazing map for "The Hero" players.

I liked it a lot too!
Requires careful planning of every move. I like that.
Also it feels great to actually have only one random relic on the map. I'm a little fed up with powerful heroes wearing every possible best artifacts. I think relics should be scarce, and getting one should be a grand prize. Not just adding another one to collection lol
Anyway, great map

After playing a second game on it I have but 1 complaint
The cursed ring in the middle zone I think should maybe be moved to something random or perhaps just removed. It seems to me that this being in the center like that will create 2 things.
1) An absolute need for luck skill, and luck is already a very sought after skill.
2) The player is already getting alot of goodies in the middle the opponent will not have access to.
I think the cursed ring might give the breaking player (who is clearly already at an advantage) a little too strong of an advantage.

It's great that you all enjoy the map so much! What can make mapmaker more happy than somebody saying "i will play this map 4ever"
Quote: The cursed ring in the middle zone I think should maybe be moved to something random or perhaps just removed.
There is no preset cursed ring in the middle - all arties in the middle are random already. So it looks that the map randomly generated cursed ring in your game, mate
The only "preset" ring in the middle is the one in the pocket of Deleb (did u folks notice that one? ) and thats quite a power indeed.
Quote: (..) give the breaking player (who is clearly already at an advantage) a little too strong of an advantage.
As version 1.1 is on its way very soon (one small accesability bug still managed to squeze through ), i'm more then open to any suggestions for improvement. Therefore, if it looks that the middle has too much of a power, we can remove/reduce something - all I need is your thoughts about it
Imho, the middle is quite ok now because of the following:
1.There should be some motivation for players to try to break through instead of sitting in defense. And only possible motivation is to get some good stuff out of there.
2.Breaking to middle is quite risky because you don't know what guardian is on the other side of the telereport - e.g., early breaking through and facing some good bunch of archmages can turn out really nasty
3.The opponent can see whats going on, and if you are breaking very early and unprepared for final battle, there is fair chance that the opponent will catch you pants down
However, once more - i'm really open for possible changes, cause it is just impossible to make final version of any map before the map is tested in a bunch of real online games.

I agree
I agree with the number of relics being limited
I am giving up on HG after losing 80% of my games on it. Its a great map, but not for my style of play i guess.
So many games i had a great hero, great buildings which were built effeciently, and lost the game due to the greater surprises of battle where myself and opponent had nasty arties.
I am looking forward to trying this small rich map.

Ahhh ok.
It was actually our second game hehe.
Game 1 I got to middle and got cursed ring, game 2 fiur got to middle and got cursed ring. I just assumed it must be preset
Thanks for clearing it up
EDIT:
I did not notice delebs ring, When I freed he lovely highness from the prison in game 1 I was necro and couldn't believe my luck to see 15 succubus in her army.. which were promptly trained back to castle for slaying into vampires.

Updated map to version 1.1 (link for downloading remains the same - see first post of this thread)
Changes - fixed that one small bug on blue side (chest and wood pile that couldn't be reached) + some minor landscape adjustments that designer of the map wanted to make
P.S. @Destro - I really enjoyed phrase "her lovely highness" in your previous post.. Reminded me of discussion with sq we had some time ago - whether it would be fun to have somebody with such horns in your bed...

minor "bug"
Well Zilonite I've played "Heritage of Deleb" a couple of times now... and as I told in the post above I gonna like it 4'ever...
But there is one thing who should'nt be as the map is right now....
Usually I've played on the blue side, but I had 2 games on the red side too.
- Here is the thing you should correct:
when the "red" hero moves near south west of his territory he can get an "eye" contact to the monolith in the middle.....
from the blue side thats not possible....
But here is what you could do (maybe)
the blue side could have access to a "scouting" post so he has full view of the other side of the monolith maybe....
so far I've played this map 5 times puh..... addicted?? who knows lol
fiur straight to bed now!!!! arghhhhh

Huh.. Just tested it now - when you access the watchtower on both sides, you can see same things - whole your own area AND pitlords&telereport in the middle. So both players can see middle telereport right from the week 1. Or did I get something wrong here?

"female touch" and you makes all the "game mechanical" stuff
is this right or I am way out of line here.....?

But, of course, thx for support and hope to play you all here

Yep, mate, you are right - she is my girlfriend and professional artist at the same time Without her those maps simply would not be there - i don't have that patience to go over and over same few tiles adding one small bush and removing another, until its all really ethetically perfect. So actually its more like i'm assistant and she is the main mapmaker
Right now she sends her best greetings to you cause you noticed that "femele touch" in the map

I've only played half a game on this map so far but I like it very much....what I've seen of it anyway. Like Betruger said, it requires you to plan actions carefully
Keep up the good work Zilonite!
