When in doubt, change the points

If you know what the title means, this thread is for you.

OK, VF and William, bring your car talk over here instead of the RL photo thread. That thread is for people pictures. (VF, contrary to what you might think cars are not people)

And let me make one thing perfectly clear right from the start - Fords suck!!  Well, maybe a 72 Cougar XR7 is OK, but the rest suck.

72 XR7

Will, it's hard to see the one in the front, but the red car in the back looks like it could be a Mach 1.

Here's a Roadrunner
1970 hemi

Personally I like GM, especially Olds. I've had at least a dozen Oldsmobiles, mostly cutlasses.

Now this is a pretty car!!!
1970 Cutlass convertible

And I also like Toronados
66 Toro

My oh my, what do we have under the hood of that Toro?

And yes, every one of these has points.

edit: For the record. No, none of those cars are mine.  When I was messing with cars a lot I was too poor to have such pretty cars.

Old Cars rock

Here are some of my newer favourites:

A Jaguar XJ220, I like Jaguar's, my favourite type of car, they just look so much different from other cars, whereas most of the modern cars kinda have similarities between one another, which is kinda boring, but Jaguar's stand out from the crowd

A Pagani Zonda S.

I havne't heard much of the Pagani series of car's, but when I played Project Gotham Racing 2 on the Xbox, I learnt of these cars, and how they look pretty damn cool.

That is one view of the car, and here is the back view:

A true work of art

A Lamborghini Diablo

Nice car

I also like the Ford GT40, and here is a picture:

There are probably better pictures, but that gives you a general idea.

PS: Sorry if the images are a bit large

EDIT: BTW Binabik, those cars look amazing, nice 'American?' muscle cars? right?

I doubt that any of those have points, so they don't count.

And if you don't work on the car or build the engine yourself it doesn't count either.  It takes bloody knuckels to build a real car.

Oh, you mean not with machines, but with your bare hands, like they used to do, back in the old days?

I guess it is much easier to do it with machinery, but then it wouldn't be entirely your work with making it, since you didn't really make most of it, the machine did.

You buy the parts and put them on yourself.  Or you spend weeks wet sanding the car and then paint it yourself.

You cuss and yell and scream at the car when the damn bolt breaks in the exhaust manifold. Then later you apologize to your car and lovingly give it a new coat of wax to make up for it.

"Ahhh, poor car, I didn't mean to get pissed off and hit you with the breaker bar, I promise not to do it again if you'll only take me back...."

Except for the XR7 those are some quite nice cars.

For some reason lately I'm starting to have a thing for orange cars, especially concepts, but as far as muscle cars go you can't beat the Chevelle.

Hey MR. B listen for a sec, I’m not on here to promote Ford however my family all had Fords growing up, but lets clarify what a Ford was as opposed to what it is now. The cars now are not only impossible to turn a wrench on (which is my preference) but don’t signify the good old muscle cars, MOPAR with its 340, or the kick ass Shelby pace car.

This is the New Shelby Pace Car. They just took the Mustang body and put the Shelby front end on it. They are what keep Ford from going under completely. Toyota has taken over the F150 and 250 with the Tundra. They are trying to pull things up with the Fusion but I expect that if they don’t pull their heads out of their *** they will be under by next year and rightfully so as they have went backwards.

This is the old Shelby, which I have not only test drove at the World Ford Challenge, but also intend on owning for my Sunday driver when I’m old.

This is the Super bird, it was just a neat car for its time and orange is so hot. That last car that I restored was a Buick shown below and yes there I’m, I wanted to go orange with a pearl to pull a tinge of red out but he wanted it silver, so boring, really tired of old men wanting silver and black.

Buick that I restored and then auctioned off at the show that runs with Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale AZ.

Nice, but what's the point of having it? Even if you can afford it, it would probably get stolen the same day you bought it. Well, at least in my country

now that's a fine car.. (chrysler stratus cabrio) costs funny 4000$ and looks&rides great

MOPAR with its 340
I'm not too familiar with the 340.  I was about to say I always thought it was a low power crap engine, but I decided to look it up first. My book shows the stock '71 340 six pack at 330HP.  That's quite a bit better than I expected and I didn't even know it came with a factory six pack.

Is that Super Bird yours?  Damn, that's a nice car, I'm envious.  I forgot all about the Superbird until you posted it. (it's probably been almost 20 years since I've been to a show)  There never were very many of those, and my guess is that there are VERY FEW of them still on the road.  I think the Super Bee was more common, but still not something you see very often.

That Buick is a classic Gm body style. There must have been a zillion of those made.  Those late 60s -early 70s bodies had nicer lines. But there's just something about the earlier ones that were more squared off (like the GTO and early 442) that just screamed bad-ass machine.  Oh yea, put the pedal to the metal, I'm coming through so get the hell out of the way.  LMAO

Now don't laugh, I said none of my cars were pretty. It's an unrestored rust bucket, but here's my only Mustang, a 68 fastback.  I got a heck of a deal on it (something like $150).  It was sitting in the guys garage for years without being touched.  His wife finally told him that either the car goes by the end of the week or she goes.  And the guy actually picked her over the car.

@Trogdor

You don't like the XR7?  If you drove one I bet you would.  My old GF used to have a 72 XR7 with the 351 Cleveland engine.  I used to love driving it (but she didn't let me very often).  It might be an American expression, but that car ran like a bat outta hell.  I remember that I loved the steering and handling, but it was slightly over tight.

In the states, the Chevelle is real popular in some places, but not others.  Around here the 72 Chevelle was extremely popular.  That year had a good body style.  I had one myself, but I only sold it as parts.  The chrome and body panels brought pretty good money on those cars.

Those things look pig-ugly. Also if I wanted a Ford product muscle-car I would get a Mustang or Thunderbird, or perhaps a Lincoln Continental.

I guess I've been out of the loop for a while.  I had no idea how high prices have gone. This Hurst Olds is listed at $95K USD.

This 442 is listed at $102K USD

Those are huge sums of money.  The last I was involved top prices were probably not much more than 10-20% of those prices.  The top collectible muscle cars were maybe in the 20s, with a very rare car going in the low 30s.  And realistically there weren't very many cars that could bring over 10K even fully restored.

It makes me curious how much that old piece of junk 68 Mustang of mine would go for today.  I had a bunch of cars from that era, but none of them had the high performance engines.

I'm afraid it's that high quality paint job on the golden 66 toro that has me so smitten. It makes me want to give up everything I own to have it. I wouldn't have food or a bed but what euphoria to own it!
