projectile animation

I've emailed a bunch of individual people in this forum about this topic, but am getting the picture that it'd be easier just to make a thread about it.

I've gotten pretty good at making custom defs--I have animated 20 in all and put each in the game (most are extracted from various MM games, but others, like my T-Rex and grizzly bear, took a lot more work!) Anyway . . . One of my creatures, a witch, replaces the
nonupgraded lich creature. Is there a way I can change the witch's projectile so that her shot doesn't result in the lich cloudkill animation?  The overall goal is to give the game's creature pool an enhanced feel, so that one doesn't simply say, "Oh, that's just a re-worked lich, etc."

Make the animation and replace appropriate file in the .lod, you'll find it easily.

Yeah, I know how to replace the .def file, but I don't wanna get rid of the cloudkill animation for the lich.  The question, essentially, is: can the lich and power lich have different animations for their projectiles?
