20th Century Cults
People in US and in some other countries worry about the whole arabian problem and stuff, but they lack the sight to see the problem in their own yard.
Today i watched the South Park show "Trapped in the Closet" about scientologist.I started the wikipedia search on these guys.
For those of you who don't know what's this all about.. Scientology is a 20th century founded religion by some L. Ron Hubbard guy, a sci-fi writer, and it talks alot of crap about how Xenu (sometimes Xemu) an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living. The alien souls continue to do this today, causing a variety of physical ill-effects in modern-day humans.
PEOPLE ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS CRAP!
I also found this stuff NOT FUNNY!
There is more...
In Japan there was another weird group : Aum Shinrikyo. In 1995 the group had 9,000 members in Japan, and as many as 40,000 worldwide. As of 2004 Aum Shinrikyo/Aleph membership is estimated at 1,500 to 2,000 people. On the morning of 20th March 1995, Aum members released sarin in a co-ordinated attack on five trains in the Tokyo subway system, killing 12 commuters, seriously harming 54 and affecting 980 more. Prosecutors allege that Asahara was tipped off about planned police raids on cult facilities by an insider, and ordered an attack in central Tokyo to divert attention away from the group. The plan evidently backfired, and the police conducted huge simultaneous raids on cult compounds across the country. Over the next week, the full scale of Aum's activities was revealed for the first time. At the cult's headquarters in Kamikuishiki on the foot of Mount Fuji, police found explosives, chemical weapons and biological warfare agents, such as anthrax and Ebola cultures, and a Russian MIL Mi-17 military helicopter. There were stockpiles of chemicals which could be used for producing enough sarin to kill four million people. Police also found laboratories to manufacture drugs such as LSD, methamphetamines, and a crude form of truth serum, a safe containing millions of dollars worth in cash and gold, and cells, many still containing prisoners. During the raids, Aum issued statements claiming that the chemicals were for fertilizers. Over the next 6 weeks, over 150 cult members were arrested for a variety of offences.
Even more... I had a group in my country also: MISA, ruled by Gregorian Bivolaru, with its affilition in Sweden Esoteric Orient Yoga. It has been uncovered that this Bivolaru guy had sexual relations with 14-16 years old girls and its members had some brainwashing programs of somesort.
Let's not forget some suicide cults....
Peoples Temple
Quote: In November 1978, 914 American followers of Jim Jones (formerly a church in the mainstream Christian denomination Disciples of Christ) died in a mass murder/suicide in Jonestown, Guyana. The dead included 274 children.
Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God
Quote: On March 17, 2000, between 780 and 1000 members of the Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God died in a probable mass suicide in Uganda. The group had diverged from the Roman Catholic Church in order to emphasize apocalypticism and alleged Marian apparitions.
Solar Temple
Quote: From 1994 to 1997, the Order of the Solar Temple's members began a series of mass suicides, which led to roughly 74 deaths
Heaven's Gate
Quote: On March 26, 1997, 39 followers of the Heaven's Gate cult died in a mass suicide near San Diego, California. In the beliefs of the cult, this was not an act of self-extermination; they believed that they were merely "exiting their human vehicles" so that their souls could go on a journey aboard a spaceship they believed to be following comet Hale-Bopp.
Forget emos with their solitary cases. Beware more of these guys.
For those of you already in a so called religious group, get out of there if you can , but probably you will be the ones bashing me in this thread, and don't have any plans of leaving.
For those of you who aren't, take awareness. Just stick with one of those major religions ,whatever it may be. Those have been around for some time and even if each one of them has its hands stained with blood, they all seem to have some mental stability.

I remember hearing about Heavens gate.
I was in the shelter but I remember a friend telling me about it.
I remember the comment that came down.
I actually was outside with some friends when it cAME THAT day.
Then I read about the deaths.
Was very sad.
Zo was a priest if I remembered with strict values.
Shaving upwards & never downwards, no sex. No personal dates.
Eating the same foods etc.
Unfortunately Zo believed in it all.
Zo actually believed Heavens gate was a quick way to heaven.
He waited for a sign.
Some quit heavens gate & new joiners.
They were free to leave if they wanted to.
Actually believing in it, Zo did not force them to stay.
Sad when you really think it's true.
That comment that came down in 97 was the sign for them to sleep enternally.
Those who slept first was tucked in nicely.
Second set Slept next.
Zo was also part of it.
If they made it to heaven or not, I guess well never know.
Most consider it suicide.
You know what they say about suicidal peeps.

Please respect people's religion no matter how unbelieveable it seems to you - don't use insulting words like "whackos" or "crazy bastards" to describe a whole religious group just for their religious beliefs
man do I really have to do this!

To be noted: I am not posting this as a rant. Everyone has its freedom of religion, but for alls sakes follow a major religion with acceptance from the public and state(not partculary your state). I am posting this to increase a bit of awareness. I had mostly no idea about many of these guys till this year when I saw a Discovery Channel documentary on Aum Shinrikyo and the Scientology stuff.
If you are a moron parent and want to think that aliens sodomize you daily to purge yourself from evil, suit yourself, but don't drag your child into this crap. 274 children dead in a mass suicide?!? Don't offer your 14 years old daughter to be raped by the so called prophet of your cult. I for one feel uncomfortable around children and generally don't like having one around me, but at least this bit of sympathy i have towards them.
I am not ridiculizing these religions. This kinda stuff its too serious.
There are others.
A UFO religion or UFO cult is a faith community whose belief in the existence of extraterrestrials and/or UFOs is a central component of its religion and practice.
To read more.... Wikipedia
I will be posting only the names of such cults :
Aetherius Society
Raëlism
Unarius Academy of Science
Universe people
Now some will say I am bringing down some people beliefs that UFOs don't exist. I am not trying to do that. I am merely saying don't associate your belief that extraterestrial life exists with some so called priphet dreams over how he talked to God and told him to rape your child or how modern society should be destroyed cause aliens are afraid to come to Earth now and bring peace.

Yes indeed, I'm sorry for that Kookastar. Last night I was pretty scared up by this stuff. Made me stay up till 3:00 AM. I edited that stuff now.As said above, just trying to rise some awareness that people in modern society ARE dangerous.
My dad once back in '95 wanted to join one of these cults and it was pretty scary. He was listening over and over again to a tape with just some sounds and was saying he could feel energy floating through him. Luckily he stopped that later.
Edit: I am not trying to rediculize this stuff. Maybe its hard to believe it. But i am just mad that ADULTS in modern society are even thinking that killing, child sexual abuse, biological terrorism, mental brainwash are actions of soul cleansing and purification. If that should not be considered "wacko" or "crazy" what should then Kookastar?

It does make you wonder what people are missing in their lives to make them join a religion... to believe in something that seems illogical.
I think that if a religion doesn't cause harm, and it's aim is to get people to live a 'better', more positive life than it's ok...
I don't know much about scientology other than the whole silent birth thing. I'll read your link sometime

Don't we all believe in things that are illogical at times?
Reality, as far as I'm concerned does only exist as an image in my mind. It's composed out of incomplete information obtained by my five senses, put together and completed where necessary by subconscious processes I can't control.
It's a best guess, but because it would make life impossible to have to question each and every thing we assume to be facts, we believe they are real.
This thought helps putting things in perspective for me

Pfft... Those sects suck... Some people have no imagination.
Look away from the false prophets and the fake religions of the Earth, mortals, and behold! I present thee the One True Faith, the faith in Xurax, the tomato-headed god of grunge, also worshiped in one of his aspects as the Mighty Banana God!
Our religion is widespread through southern Europe, Scandinavia, and of course western Bolivia. Xuraxism teaches that all men are equal under grunge; and that grunge is what unites all men into spiritual enlightenment and ultimate victory over the forces of darkness and emos. As it is written in the Holy Book of Xurax, part 42 - Thy Terms of Xurax;
"Serveth me, and listenth to grunge, and giveth a lot of cash to Baklava, and also provideth Baklava with a steady supply of peanuts, and thou soul shalt be saved, and thou shalt have a fancy afterlife, with nude chicks and stuff; Heed me, thee who serveth me not, and who listenth to Emo music, and who voteth republican, and who giveth not cash and peanuts to Baklava, thou souls shalt be banished into eternal oblivion, into thy pits of Hell, where there is naught to eat but broccoli, and there is naught to watch but movies with Ben Affleck! I have spoken and stated my terms; my way or thun highway."
There's more if you're interested... If not then you're INFIDELS!!11 And I shall eat peanuts (equivalent to prayer - xuraxists pray by devouring peanuts and sometimes blowing a joint or two) in hope that your souls shall be saved and rescued from eternal damnation of broccoli and Ben Affleck movies.

Quote: 'Among these advanced teachings, one episode revealed to those who reach OT level III is the story of Xenu and his Galactic Confederacy. Xenu (sometimes Xemu) is introduced as an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living. The alien souls continue to do this today, causing a variety of physical ill-effects in modern-day humans. Hubbard called these clustered spirits "Body Thetans," and the advanced levels place considerable emphasis on isolating them and neutralizing their ill effects.'
Quote: 'Hubbard stated that the delivery room should be as silent as possible during birth.[33] This stems from his belief that birth is a trauma that may induce engrams into the baby. Hubbard asserted that words in particular should be avoided because any words used during birth might be reassociated by an adult later on in life with their earlier traumatic birth experience. Hubbard also wrote that the mother should use "as little anesthetic as possible".'
Quote: 'A person is an immortal spiritual being (termed a thetan) who possesses a mind and a body.
The thetan has lived through many past lives and will continue to live beyond the death of the body.... Hubbard proposed that the cause of "aberrations" in a human mind was an accumulation of pain and unconscious memories of traumatic incidents, some of which predated the life of the human. He extended this view further in Scientology, declaring that thetans have existed for tens of trillions of years (several orders of magnitude greater than what mainstream science generally estimates the age of the universe to be).'
Quote: 'At a Scientology funeral service the minister speaks directly to the thetan (the individual as a spirit) and grants forgiveness for anything the deceased has done so he can begin life anew.
"We do not contest your right to go away. Your debts are paid. This chapter of thy life is shut. Go now, dear [deceased], and live once more in happier time and place."'
Quote: 'Publicity has been generated by Scientologists in the entertainment industry. Among the most well-known of these figures are the artists John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, Beck, Jason Lee, Isaac Hayes, Tom Cruise, and Katie Holmes.
...Former Scientologists say that celebrity practitioners get more attention and care than noncelebrity practitioners[63], for example Maureen Bolstad, who said that a couple of dozen Scientologists including herself were put to work on a rainy night through dawn on the planting grass. "We were told that we needed to plant a field and that it was to help Tom impress Nicole ... but for some mysterious reason it wasn't considered acceptable by Mr. Miscavige. So the project was rejected and they redid it."'
Quote: The ongoing controversies involving the Church and its critics include:
* Repeated claims of brainwashing and mind control.
* Scientology's disconnection policy, in which members are encouraged to cut off all contact with friends or family members critical of the Church.
* The death of Scientologists, including Lisa McPherson used by Scientology critics as "examples".
* Criminal activities by individual American Scientologists or committed for personal benefit (Reed Slatkin, Gabriel Williams, and others)
* Criminal activities committed on behalf of the Church or directed by Church officials (Operation Snow White, Operation Freakout, Fair Game and others).
* Sometimes conflicting claims about L. Ron Hubbard's life, in particular accounts of Hubbard discussing his intent to start a religion for profit, and of his service in the military.
* Scientology's litigious actions against its critics and enemies.
* Some critics charge Scientology with being a cult of personality, with much emphasis placed on the alleged accomplishments of its founder.
Quote: The Church says that psychiatry was responsible for World War I, the rise of Hitler and Stalin, the decline in education standards in the United States, the wars in Bosnia and Kosovo,[126] and the September 11 attacks.

If you psychologically analyse the life of Hubbard you will see that he had reached certain stages at some points of life such as corruption with the power he got. That was during the time he created the sub-sect of scientologists that travelled on ships through the Medeteranean.
Than at some points in his life he did try to disassociate himself from the movement.
The last attempt he completely stopped doing anything there and instead tried to put the whole scientology story into the sci-fi book. It is also beleived that he died from drug abuse which is illegal to scientologists. He also during his life often did things that were not consistent with his statements he made in the Scientology.
I also should mention that his wife I think was involved in a scheme that was able to get inside governmental organisations and specifically CIA and stole classified documents from them.

Really, what do you think about this.
From wiki:
The accusation of having sex with a minor was based on a declaration given by a 17 year-old girl who later retracted the accusation, saying it had been given under pressure. The charge was additionally suspect as sex with minors over the age of 15 is legal under Romanian law.
----
On 21 October 2005, the Supreme Court of Sweden rejected the extradition request and set Bivolaru free. The Supreme Court judges concluded that Bivolaru would not benefit a fair trial in Romania. Anette Swedow, the chief prosecutor in the Gregorian Bivolaru case declared: The final decision is that should Bivolaru be extradited in Romania, he runs the risk of being deported, persecuted and harassed, because of his religious businesses he applies within the yoga movement.

@Minion... On the page with Gregorian Bivolaru, you can see on little message : "The neutrality of this article is disputed."
Proof?
Quote: Taking into account that Gandhi himself has practiced and taught his disciples to practice this noble form of yoga called Karma Yoga, we can only be happy that he escaped the vigilant eye and brilliant mind of some Romanian magistrates and he hasn't been accused of trafficking persons. Understanding that Karma Yoga is a completely voluntary practice is important to the understanding of the case.

The neutrality, yes. But the FACTS that I gave you are not disputed. Starting with the charges over him, that were seen as false by the court and that Sweden also granted him asylym because of the way he was treated. You can also look for humanitarian groups such as Amnesty International on what they say about the treatment of Bivolary and yoga practioners in Romania.
But maybe I don't know everything.. what tapes?
