i'm making a game, YARR!
avast me hearties!
yes, i am jumping on the band wagon and setting out my own "heroes-esqe" game. i have a small amount of information if anyone wants to browse over it.
i have no plans to continue this like gnollmage, and i have noone who i could send it too. so this is just purely for fun!
name: all the seven seas
tagline: get your sealegs and set out to adventure
possible title song: seven deadly sins- flogging molly
setting: Ocea, a world almost completely dominated by oceans and seas, with only seven major land masses (same size as france, roughly).
story:
long ago, the first pirates were born. only eight in number, but their abilities and powers vastly different. they were the scourage of the ocean, the terror of the "world" government, and the heroes of the people. they sail all over the oceans of the world, the east blue, the west white, the north black, the south red, the great cove, the mealstrom and the grand current. they had become kings and queens of the world, with no ties to royalty, and much more able leaders than any lord or king.
that was until there leader, Jolly roger, was cought, tried and executed. they all watched from hiding places, unable to bring themselves to rescue their beloved captain. jolly roger died with his characteristic grin on his face, his last words were "any man who can gain what i have gained, so by killing me, your only letting yourselves in for another, possibly more powerful, man to take my place!"
these last words of their captain enfused the pirates with new resolve, and even the most cowardly, tried to rescue their captain. but there were too many marine and too short a time, jolly roger's body danced the jig of death, from which, this time, there was no escape. a massive brawl broke out, the last of the pirate crew taking on the might of over a million marines. five managed to escape, fleeing to their homelands and safety, two were captured, one was given a chance to work for the navy, the other was placed in the "ships graveyard". and that would appear to be that.
but it wasn't
hawk-eye Barbossa, the proud, rival to jolly roger in terms of strength, became the new lead admiral of the navy. as a former pirate himself, and wishing to making his name and the man who outstriped his captains legacy, he is now hunting the seas, stopping pirates wherever they may come.
two-flags Pearl, the beautiful, returned to her homeland, the great artistic corsair country of Opalna. she wished to keep jolly rogers fun-loving legacy alive, so created pirate ships in order to scour the world for treasure, and to persue the hedonistic lifestyle wherever possible.
big-mouth Shanks, the glutton, returned to the tribal jungles of his birth. the land of cooks, doctors and builders, his goal was to become the rogue aid relief of the world, for the governments tight fisted ways had deprived the most desperate areas of all aid, working against the navy to do so.
light-finger Teach, the greedy, returned to the industrial works of Dagnarum. ambitious and intelligent, he uses the impressive amount of warshipwrights and heavy industry to industrialise the world for further profit. it goes along way with forward planning.
big-wig Buggy, the lazy, went to Roguetown. too lazy to carve her own destiny, she began to bribe the local ganglords and buying many pirate ships (plus crew, she didn't want the bother of finding them), and build a massive pirate armada, ang simply take over the world, with no hassle.
black beard, the Beserker, left for the great icesheets of his home village. enraged at his captains death, he now rallied all the clans of the sheets and raid, from mighty longships, villages and towns, to prove that he is the strongest through force of will alone.
finally, davy jones, the envious, marooned on the ships graveyard, spent many years concocting and creating all manner of terrible unliving creatures. he now wishes to blanket all life from the world using his plaguefleets, to prove that only he can succeed Jolly roger.
the gameplay: similar to heroes. you have a ship that takes you around the map, sailing. treasure is more common than resources. each time you engage in combat, the battle screen shows two ships, and people board and fight from there.
seven races for the seven big pirates, each sort of parralelling the seven deadly sins.
the Fjord= Blackbeard's race, lots of big, angry vikings and big sharp axes, this town would represent anger nicely.
the Industry= teach's town, lots of factories and mechanised soldiers with guns, a greedy race.
the Armada= Buggy's town, lots of foot-soldiers with lax law and messy buildings, sloth rules here.
the Navy= Barbossa's race, glory of the navy, lots of shining buildings and raised flags, pride of the nation.
the Tribe= Shanks town, big dense jungle with lots of animals and tree-huts, with lots of eating and overconsumption.
the Works= pearls race, lots of pretty pictures, extravagant troops and stuff like that, lustful.
the wreckageyard= davy jones rules here. needless to say, its dank, depressing and wreeking of envy.
naturally the names can be changed. so if anyone has any idea for units, names, heroes or racial skills, please post them.
oh, and one more thing.
yo ho, yo ho, a pirates life for me!

It sounds good although you're describing it pretty general. Definately needs some more thinking, but keep it up!
As for the names, I don't think 'Graveyard' is a good option. Not even the HOMM Necromancers call their towns 'The Graveyard'. It'd even depress that undead! I can't really think of a good replacement, though.
The plot seems quite good as well, I love pirates!
Maybe some more details? I'm not sure.
The above is my opinion, so you're not obliged at all to take it serious. This is all your idea!
I'm just hoping that this motivates others to have a look at this idea.
Best Regards,
Tenaka

if anyone can think of good songs for each of the towns?
the reason why i choose pirates is because it's so iconic, and fun.
and, yeah, maybe "Graveyard" is a bit too macabre for one of the most macabre races in fantasy.

WTF?!
Blackbeard was totally not into necromancy. But Davy Jones would fit perfectly...

Well I'm more for the Davy Jones version, and Blackbeard can have another faction...
Though I'd most prefer a version with the following factions:
Spain (strong melee infantry)
England (powerful ranged infantry and heavy ships)
France (tough light ships and stronger forts)
Holland (tough light ships and strong economy)
Portugal (faster ships and good cavalry)
Pirate (good morale, faster ships, some loot abilities or something)
Native (tough melee infantry, some racial specialties)
Something like that... Perhaps split natives into Aztecs, Incas, Mayas and Tribals...
But it's your game.

that version more sounds like age of empires, and this is a fantasy game, with a whole new world, etc, so it wouldn't really have those nations.

Yeah I guess it does...
But it would kinda fit.
Spain - pride
Pirates - sloth
Native - anger
Dutch - overconsumption
England - greed
France - envy
Portugal - lust
Nothing meant as an offense to those nations (especially pirates ), I just think that kinda represents the interests of them in that area...

the thing is that it isn't taking place on earth, it is taking place on
Quote: Ocea, a world almost completely dominated by oceans and seas, with only seven major land masses
and this has sea monsters, big battleships, ridiculously huge cannons etc.
basically, i choose a fantasy world because it would allow more possiblities with creatures. if we have it based in the real world it would be "pirate", "marine"...... and that would be just about it. with a fantasy world, we could have all manner of creatures, along with the undead.

the thing is that its ment to be a collection of ships, and a single wreck wouldn't really have enough crew to sustain an army that is going to (in a cliche way) "Take over the WORLD!"
