Faction Debate *Updated*
As you may or may not be aware, I write a (very irregular) column over at Celestial Heavens called "Discourses of Might and Magic". The latest entry, which can be found at http://www.celestialheavens.com/viewpage.php?id=688, is entitled Heroes V, Deconstructed.
Anyway, aside from that shameless plug, I am posting this because my next article will require some user-participation. I am interested in moderating a "debate" of sorts over which H5 faction is the best, and what are the best strategies for each faction to use against every other faction. What I need is people to take up the flag and champion the various factions.
At this point most of the details have to be worked out, which will also require the input of the various participants. The debate will be carried out in private, and then the results will be organized by myself and then posted as a large strategy section at Celestial Heavens. It will be hopefully a nice resource for H5 players, and a source for much discussion if it can be pulled off.
Technically I have the minimum of 7 volunteers that I need to do this, but I thought I would invite anyone over here to participate as well. I intend for the time-commitment to be fairly light. All you need is some knowledge of and interest in H5 strategy, and a willingness to put some of your thoughts into words. If you are interested, please send me a PM and I will provide you with more details about where this will be taking place.

Well, at least I have been following the "Deconstructed" series since its start.  Good stuff man, a really nice read for any HoMM-er.
If you need good analysists, you seem to have come to the right spot. I've just figured out many critical aspects of the game's strategy due to nice and friendly input from many good players here.
As for the column, can I do some stuff for Necropolis faction? I've played it the most. I'm no expert but I think I know the basics by now.
P.S. I bet feluniozbunio and Doomforge would wanna do Dungeon.

1. there is no best faction, they only slightly differ in balance inbetween early, mid, and late game. Usually what's strong early becomes weak in the end, and vice-versa. The only exception is academy, which is strong all along, but definitely weaker than haven and sylvan in the end.
2. As for the dungeon, you may check here, since I don't think there is any need to re-write what we've written there again.
3. For other factions, there are countless analyses and charts around. I suggest you to look around, you'll find plenty of stuff.

Of course, but some are better for different styles of game, different time periods (as you mentioned) and such. This column is definitively not gonna be discussing the "WHO'S DA 1337EST HAXXOR TOWN?" question.

Well, no need to rewrite it, maybe just reformat a bit and make it more article-style..

yeah, I just feared that this thread will turn into another "WHO'S DA 1337EST HAXXOR TOWN?" () which I personally hate
as for the towns, I see it that way..

The easiest thing is to look through the Table Of Contents to find reviews on the different factions.
I should point out that I left this thread open only to give room for direct discussion related to the project and/or questions for corribus. The idea of this thread is not to start a(nother) "which faction is best" discussion in this board, we already have such threads. If necessary, I will clean this thread regardles of quality and amount to keep it on-topic.

Yes, please there is no need for a discussion over which faction is best. If you feel strongly either way and really want to argue, that's what this project will be for! Save it for then!
Also, I am aware that there are threads out there that discuss strategy. My goal is not to have a free-for-all "noisy" argument in typical message-board thread style over which faction is the best. We can do that easily enough using regular threads at the RT, and, while long threads about strategy are nice, they are not really that useful, to be honest, because of all the information-wading that must be done. The goal is also not really to determine which, if any, faction is truly the best.
The goal here will be to have a structured, well-ordered discussion about the merits of each faction, especially when put up against the merits of other factions. I am hoping the discussion will be fun for all involved, and, once it is released, will be an entertaining read for non-participants, as it will be released in a sort of article format. There will be, at least I hope, a friendly competition atmosphere to the debates as well. As with any traditional debate club, the point maybe will not be so much to determine which viewpoint is the most correct, but rather to determine who defends their viewpoint the best. That's a subtle difference.
Currently we are still working out the details and more people are encouraged to volunteer! I also think it would be nice if a few people from HC wanted to get involved, which is partially why I put this advert here, so as to foster communication and involvement across these two large HoMM communities. Maybe some day we could have a HC vs. RT debate tournament. (The RT would win, I am sure, but it would be fun nonetheless.  )

Hehe being a regular in both forums it would be confusing Buut RT would be really hard pressed to prevail in heroes issues!
Out of curiosity, is there anyone from here that would consider to help with the debate? Come on people, HC's pride is at stake! Or something

I must say that all factions are preety well balanced at the moment.
There are some exceptions but they are only connected with map design, size etc.
On medium sized balanced maps chances for each castle are very similar generally, theres no point in discussing which faction is better actually.
What can be interesting is which factions have favour in which matchups and what are strategies for each faction in each matchup.

I'd be willing to tackle inferno, necropolis, or Academy for you, I do see that you already have a volunteer for Academy, and I can pretty safely assume noone will be representing inferno.
Depening on times and what not, I'd be interested in participating.

Well I'm one of the "Necroma" players in the "ToH Clan" Tourney....
(There I only play Necropolis.....
I got over 50 necrogames (as Clan)...
In the beginning playing Necro always "lead" to the same skills/perks...
but after a while there is several/lots of options (most of all to "shock" your opponent....
(so to make some "un natural" skills may be the "real" deal against good multiplayer opponents...
so to make an "manual" for necro players would be XXX pages long....
first prior: what fraction are you up against
sec. prior: "how good is your opponent"
final call....... to make some "surprises" may lead you to victory
this is an "manual" in short terms.....
(btw I got the same nick on the CH forum)
