Getting back on-topic (again)...
My younger brother introduced me to HoMM2 (and a pirated copy, at that). I liked it, but I kept getting my butt kicked so I forgot about it. Liked the music, though... I ended up getting a copy of HoMM3 late summer of '99. I won't call it pirating b/c I loaned the money to the person who bought it. Anyway, I forgot about the game again a few months after I played it.
What really got me hooked on the game when I played hotseat with two friends of mine. Shortly after, I bought the HoMM 1-3 "valuepack" and have been hooked ever since.

back when I was a wee little lad...
at 15-16 yrs old, my older brother was trying out a game which was given to us by our step-brother (who didn't like the game), and my brother was planning on exchanging this game for others (with someone online).
My brother quickly became addicted to it, and so did I. He later cancelled the exchange and said, "um, my little brother loves this game, and if I trade it, he'll be really upset." <-- which was only half true because my older brother loved it too.
The game was HOMM1. We would sometimes stay up until the sun rose playing that game.
It's funny how back then in 1995, you just didn't notice how CHEESY the graphics were.

I have seen the graphics on a shot. OMG! It looks like a creepy cartoon! LoL. But it was a good game, I'm sure.

I don't really pirate games myself.
I mean, between me and my bro, at least one of us owns a copy of all the games we play. However I also buy few games and play them all a lot so it's probably more worthwhile for me.
I also understand that many games are hard to find in some countries and people have to pay ridiculous import prices and stuff, which isn't really fair.
My stance on piracy is that I prefer not to do it, unless it's a big app like some MS or Adobe thing, or if I don't really like the game much and am installing it just because my friends want to do multiplayer with me.
As for others... I know people do what they gotta do, and I don't frown upon it... but I prefer not to hear about it anyway. Sorta like a "don't ask, don't tell" kinda thing.
I don't know... I guess maybe I buy games because i can afford to. I know everyone doesn't have that luxury.
I'll quit babbling now.

I didn't buy illegal software for a loong time. About 2 years. The first one was my last I think. And if you ask me why: because of the poor quality. I buy a legal game every month. And guess how much money do I spend? 18.50zł. That would be less than 5$. How do I do that? I buy a kewl magazine every month. You get about 150 pages of great quality paper, two CDs, and at least one of them contains a full comercial product. I love Poland! Hahahahah...

Lucky dog you are, LW
Well, guys, just to give you a clue about the situation here, if I had an original mm8 copy at the time of its release, that would cost me my pocket money for 3 months, gym fee included. Do I look like a sick person? Better have bad quality but pocket money too... methinks.

I think you`re talking about CD-Action. It`s very cool magazine, but contained games (a full comercial products) are old.

I personally won't mind playing the WoT now and buy a magazine for 5 bucks with it. It's still a great game.
Just giving an example.

I'm going to be around till the end of the world... *picks up RMS' chin* You have to get used to this vile fact, my friend.
BTW... the WoT game is my greatest misfortune. I was drooling when I saw it in the store and saved money to buy the ORIGINAL game. And what do you think, happened? I can't play it on my PC. The video card. It's ****ed up. I felt like crying.

I'm reading WoT right now...
... and drooling over the upcoming LotR movies coming out.
I haven't read LotR yet, but I did read The Hobbit. I never have as much time to read as I used to.
what thread am I in anyway? *shrug* well, I'm sure this is off-topic.

I first seen HoMM at 1997, I just arrived to Israel from Russia, we've stayed at my aunt's house for a while. My cousi showed me HoMM 1, I loved it. Few days after he brought HoMM 2 from his friend, and I loved it too.
And then one day I found HoMM 3.
