Necro Campaigns
Right, well i am writing a new Necro Campaign at the mment, and am looking for a little help. First of all I am having problems finding out how to make it so that the hero doesn't lose without a town for more than 7 days.
Next is I need to know what other groups of creatures people think would be a good beatable group for a single Wraith (Yes the char will be starting with a single Wraith)
I have so far, 10 Hobgoblins, 6 Pikeman, 2-3 Griffins, 10 Trogs, 6-10 Familars, 10 Gremlins.
Non-Necro if you can please.
Next problem how do I make an event appear when someone walks over a spot on the map.
Third changing events in dwellings etc...I know how to do the creatures, but other events seem to not work and I can't find them in the Map Ed...
Any other suggestions would be great thanks.
Oh the reason for Necro, is because I have found an extreme lack of possible maps and campaigns where you get to play as the "Evil" alignments.

Nice to hear. Send me for testing when done
Quote: First of all I am having problems finding out how to make it so that the hero doesn't lose without a town for more than 7 days.
Just put a town which belongs to the player in a non reachable place (corner of map, surrounded by mountains or similar) and disable all functions/buildings of that town. That way the player will have a starting town which he can never enter nor build anything there.

7 archers, 3 beholders (maybe 4), 3 golems, etc....
Quote: Next problem how do I make an event appear when someone walks over a spot on the map.
Just put an event on the spot. It is a blue ball with the text "event" in the editor. You can even define to which player this event occurs, and if it should disappear after first visit or not.

I don't understand your question here....

Ever played the map "The Lone Knight"? Tough and cool map. In my final fight, I had 2 stacks of 63.000 skeleton warriors in my army .....but still endfight was tough (legions of level 8-10 dragons..)

Will do.

I put a town in, and disabled it all, never thought of making it inaccesible thanks.

Great Ideas I can work with from there

Never seen that before its right at the bottom of the list.

I found the solution, all you do is an event like above, but change the picture to make it a dwelling or a building of some description, or pretty much anything you like...

No I haven't but I might just have to try and find it now.
Ok so now anyone with any tips or ideas for extra stuff I can add to my campaign send away, I think I have the whole first level worked now.

Well, a single wraith can beat 20 or more stone golems if terrain allows hit and run in phases like wait, wait, wait, hit, run, run, wait, wait, hit, run, run. 2 waits necessary and 2 runs (except if terrain allows more freedom like some hills where the wraith can fly and the golems have to walk around. This you can test by the tile of the map which will always put the same terrain.
For archers also, you can test the wraith defending only until archers run out of amno then consider archers as semi-strenght walkers .
A wraith can also play a semi hit and run game in the sense that it nevers hits himself but defends (or waits) in a position where it can be hit by one unit and it simply retaliates, then flees and repeat... That tactic is used for example with some angels vs slowed bone dragons. The angels cannot outrun the dragons but they can move in positions where only one stack can hit them and then 1 or 2 cures before repeating. Since the wraiths cure themselves indefinitely it's only a matter of determining the maximum damage a single stack can do to them in one hit.
Many tactical possibilities but some will be boring to play I guess

Well the first mission is ready for testing. Anyone who would like to try it please do and pass on any issues.

Having some of these "single wraith" fights at the beginning is for sure fun, but don't exaggerate it.
If I would be forced to fight 20 golems with 1 wraith you can be sure I will end that game soon. Fights should be competitive, but not annoying.
That's why I would highly recommend to NOT implement events like "Ambushes" and such. This will lead to many reloads --> annoying.
Players may stop continuing the map coz of too many annoying events. Ambushes make u unable to use scouts properly.

I think the only ambush i have is a single peasant
he rest you can scout and the worst fights you can avoid, as for the rest of it, remember this is a set-up scenario for a campaign...
I am still running testing, but wonder what others could suggest as well...

Just another point here, I was wondering if anyone knows why there aren't many "evil" campaigns or even maps based on using Necro or Inferno?

Maybe because a human is "good" from the very beginning
Btw...there is a great single player map called "To Kill For Power" where u mainly play Inferno. Great stuff.

I managed to open it in map editor... I have the completely unpatched version of Shadow of Death if that's helpful...
Why do in every Necro map/campaign the necromancers try to take over the world? It's such a cliche

What Angelito said... the map can't be opened. I have Heroes III Complete and I don't know if there were any patches for that but if they were I probably have them anyways.

If u have Shadow of Death (talking to the map maker here), then be sure u have upgraded to version 3.2. Patches can be found here.

I got errors also. I got them on *.def files. The file names started with the letter "z". I'm pretty sure those are WOG sprite files. Some of the WOG people would know better, but I think even if you don't make a WOG map, some of those files might get used. It's also possible that you are using the WOG map editor without knowing it. It's hard to tell the difference between the two.
