this thread is too good to stay behind...

well this is going ot be the last thing you are going ot hear from me... I'm going to sleep after I finish this...

...it was a hot summer day (July 1st), I had been playing HoMM3 for the whole afternoon and suddenly I remembered that I had read something about a sequel... with that thought, I went online and searched the net with Google.. the first link to come up was the Age of Heroes... I followed it, saw the screenshots and I was generally happy to learn something about the new HoMM, there was a link to something called Heroes Community but i paid no attention to it at the beginning... I added AoH to my bookmarks and searched for more screenshots (Google again) ...I saw many new things and I decided to have a second look at the AoH screenshots... I did, and accidentally clicked on the link to HC ...before I could back out of it, the page loaded and I thought I should give it a look... I created an account with my alias at the time (the now dead Black Warlock, Ash NIR) and started posting... I chose not to create a "hello" thread, partly because I was scared by posters like Incubus or Shae (nothing personal, I was just petrified by the postcount) and partly because I'm not that social... in the next few days, I saw that Incubus was arguing with Sha and Shae alot... that guy hated Tolkien, which made me not to like him, hated humans and had some cool ideas about new creatures... to my surprise, HC proved to be more welcoming than I thought... pretty soon I made a few friends, Preserver was among them, I posted a few thoughts about HoMM4 but I was (and still am( a Tavern Dweller... I spent hours and hours, if I wasn't playing HoMM3 I would be posting or lurking in HC... I met more people, "found the guts" to talk to some of the "big ones" and pretty soon I knew almost everybody (except ToHers)...
...things started to change... El Diablo and Incubus were banned, stars came and postcount left (a good change), in the meantime Incubus had started his own board, and we became close friends... I soon became a Mod, and later co-Admin at the new board, but the surprise was that I wasn't Ash NIR anymore... I changed my nickname to Lith Maethor and assumed the identity of the Elven Warrior of Ash... that was propably the best decision I had made so far, back in HC, I created a new account, with my new persona this time,I met Hexa (then an Azure Dragon) and the RP started... as the party members for the RP started to join I found a new reason to visit HC, discussions were still made, great threads about HoMM4 could be found and now a new world was about to be created... there was something out of the ordinary though (if there is such a thing in HC) ...a young lass named Milena, who had only joined HC a day before I changed identities started to rise and gain stars (both gold and the newly added red ones), at first I thought she was just a spammer, but most of her posts hinted something else... the rest of HC was still changing, people started complaining, new members joined, old ones left and there was a feeling that soimething was not quite right...soon that changed, people started acting like their personas, soemthing I did since I switched identities, and there was a RP feeling in the whole phorum... intrigued by the young lass that appointed herself a Sorceress I started talking to her, first with the (very) usefull IMs then with ICQ and I found myself strangely bonded to her... I liked to speak with her and I almost didn't care about HC anymore... at that time, I started talking to Shae Trielle (who was nothing like the cold and distant person I thought she was), more people joined the RP (and I was more than glad to see that Milena was one of them) and we had three new Mods... all of them respected members of HC and all proved themselves to the other members, even the too-young-to-be-a-Mod RMS... new frienships were made, I kept in contact with Incubus and tried to help him return... and the anticipation for the new game was obvious through all the posts... as the days passed by, I found my self addicted to HC and addicted to a certain young lass... both scared me to death... that was never sppossed to happen... I couldn't stop posting (soon I was a Famous Hero) and I couldn't stop talking to Milena (who, by a twist of fate lived not that far away) ...each day that passed, my RL self and my online persona merged into a single character... for the first time, I was whole... posting as Lith came easier than breathing and soon even my nonRP posts had a touch of the Elf in them... it was at that time that Milena asked me to become her Warder, unaware I asked her what a Warder was and what would I have to do... after she explained to me, I accepted (propably because I was starting to fall in love) and we bonded ...both in the RP and in RL... after a while we became the joke of HC, even the reason to start some of the still going threads, I found out that she was aiding Incubus to redeem himself as well, I learned about her past and she learned about mine... to my astonishment, HC was more than just a board anymore... it felt like a second home... I thought of many posters as friends, some even more... and I became even more addicted to it... the only person capable of dragging me out was Milena and that she did... we became even closer by the hour (something that showed in my posts) and I wasn;t able to explain what happened... things led to our wedding in HC but I still couldn't see the whole picture, when I did, I saw that HC was as much a part of my life as my RL friends, that Lith had no difference from the real me and that Milena was more important than everything... soon RL caught up with me and I had no more free time.. HC just became a place I could spent a few minutes, post a thought if I was lucky and meet with my "wife" when ICQ was down...
...as the days went by, things changed once more... time was in my hands again, I spent more hours online, watched HC grow into a great phorum, lots of new members, most of them great posters, Incubus returned as Wesley, the new Mods did a great job, something necessary since Val had not much time anymore and HC thrived... at a point it was among my high priorities, until I took a big decision... I had to meet Milena in RL... since then I spend my time preparing for thetrip (one day left) and I pay little attention to HC ...except from the RP thread and a few interesting threads... now I just sit here waiting for my love to come online, keeping an eye on HC in the meantime...

Oh, so you didn't know what does "Warder" mean as well? Unfortunately, I still don't know that. It seems that I don't understand any of the things that you and Milena say... And Milena is from my country. What a shame!
By the way, I think that I have come across the word Warder in a very strange way... If inly I was sure about that. Because once Milena asked me if I play Might and Magic 6 and because I have played only 7 and 8 I answered no. And (if I remember correctly) she explained that she was looking for a Warder... But I forgot to ask what does that mean. Strange. I suppose it has nothing to do with Might and Magic 6???

According to my (cheap) lexicon the word warder translates into a a guard in a prison.

There's two aspects of the word warder which I think apply here. (Although I believe some of native english speakers should have obliged you with translating the word instead of me.)

The first one is that of a guard, making sure you don't misbehave.

The second one is that of a protector, who protects you from harm.

Another meaning of the word 'ward' is a person who's not come of age. So a warder would in that context translate to a person who has custody over the ward.

Uh oh... Lith agreeing to be a warder without knowing what the word means.

Just to set the record straight: Warders are from the "Wheel of Time" book series by Robert Jordan.  They are warriors who are magically bonded with the witches in the stories.  The bond gives them extra strength and stamina and allows the witch to experience strong feelings through the bond, but it also gives the witch control over the warder's actions, for some warder's are bonded by force.

Aes Sedai are witches.

Have you not read the books?

Everyone but the Aes Sedai themselves call them witches.  That is what they are, and if you are trying to explain them to people who have not read the books saying witches explains it all. (Saying Aes Sedai is just like saying Warder no one but Jordan fans would know what you are talking about.)

(Wow, I have just become an off topic spammer.)

(No, you were just answering a post that commented on your post.)

(Don't you see!  That's how it all starts.  I post something, then it's answered, then I feel compelled to respond.  The whole cycle starts and its just PLAIN SPAM!)

(Calm down, you'll be Okay.  Just don't do it again.)

(I already did it!  I...don't know...if I can ever go back....AARRGH!)

(Control yourself.  Get it back together.)

(But all of the others started this way and just became annoying spammers.  The next thing you know I will become...no it's too horrible to say.)

(What?...)

(A Supreme Hero! NOOOOOOO!!!!)

I remember, I first discovered the HC when I was actually looking at Val's heroesofmightandmagic.com site. I had some very good laughs, looking at some of those posts; the first members I remember are Matthy and Sikmar I think(the whole"Leader of the Penguins thing cracked me up"). Eventually, I joined, and created my first thread, "Asylum Town from Heroes IV" and the first person to post on it was El Diablo, followed by (I think) Baal and Wesley(he was Incubus back then) I got Lupin to join, and now we have another friend we're trying to convince.

Ahhhh the old times

Well I think Shae pretty much told everything about the old times and who was here first (hehe), actually, I would like someone who was here long enough (Valeriy?) to tell us about the old HC, yes there was such a thing, I think there is still a link to it even, I came there after I saw some article about Heroes4 in Age Of Heroes (Valeriy's site), it was back in... mmmm... I think a year ago or something... or no, I think it was January.
Anyway, it was a crappy board but it didn't have bugs and no avatars and no QP's or stars or whatever and you didn't have to register so it was cool, and we were discussing lotsa things there, and then i saw the link to a new HC and got here, I think I was amongst the first 15-20 to register to this board (yay). And Shae is right, this board used to be much more fun.

This is incredible. When you enter a comunity (or at least knock the door, as im doing now) you dont expect to find such a great demonstration of... life!.
I finished reading every single history noted above. I cant believe how people can open they hearts, and actually MIX their life with their current HoMM and HC experience.

This makes me wonder... Why we post? I, personally, think that we need to be in touch with the ones like us. You won´t always find the best people, or maybe you dont fit in some places (for example, some other communityes), but you still want to be with your similars.

Talking about other type of community... What defines us, HoMM players, and makes us different? Maybe its the turn based game, or the mythic background of HoMM itself?

Anyway, the questions are asked, now the only need is someone to listen...

Well .. I'm probably repeating myself..but I also found HC when I was looking for some info of HOMMIV.
If found this site and started reading up on tactics for HOMMIII .... I also didn't choose to make a Hello I new thread[/b} instead I lurked in the shadows untill I started to mingle.

After reading this forum I reinstalled HOMMIII (so thnkx to HC for making me reinstall this great game). I soon made a few friends (Lith being the first .. if I remember correct).

At first I thought this was gonna be something like my mIRC years .... way back in time (which most certainly ruined at least half a year of studies ).

Eventually this was becoming more to me than just a message board in which you can read about the HOMM series. I like to log on here each (working morning) and check out the posts...IM'ing with some closer members and just having a bit of fun.

By now I've actually started to care for some members here (you now who you are ). For me this is (at this stge of my life) more than just a silly message board ... its a supplement of my daily life/pattern which I like (the supplement that is)

If this sounds silly . just ignore it and blame mr. Heineken !@

well at first i wasn't interested at all in HC..I just enjoyed playing the game ..But Hexa kept on nagging me to try it also..so one day he pretended to be me on the board signed in as Fayree..Well I couldn't just stand by and allow it so i decided to come aboard myself..

At firts I was a bit insecure about if this was the right place for me.
But after a while I read some of Shae's post and really liked them so in an inpulse I decided to open myself up..
(which I now regret btw)
Anyways I madea lot of friends like Milena, Lith and Haile73
and I'm even gonna meet them this year which i'm really looking forward too.

But as time passed I got less interested in HC and more into the zone and playing online. And another reason is that my favourite people don't post as often or not at all.
And I lost some inspiration to write new posts
If I'd post I feel i'd only be tossing and I wouldn't want to do that

Well today i decided to look up some old threads and refresh myself and till now it's working pretty well.
So I hope this means I'm getting my inspiration back

My ex and myself had just broken up...

..but something good came out of it.. he finally finished my computer!  I was desperate to get back to my gaming, and I bought a new copy of SoD, and tried to make it work.. it didn't.  I searched the net for somebody to ask... and I found the Library, and made my first post (ha, bet you all thought my first post was 'Rules..' didn't you?) asking what was up... my 'dad' helped me out...

At first I have to say I was intimidated but luckily, when I'm nervous, I talk!! After a few weeks in the Library, I came to the tavern... and the rest, as they say, is history!!  I teamed up with Wesley (as Tiff) and wrecked havoc on the tavern as crowned flirting queen.. mwahahahaha!!

However, now it is time to hang up my queen of flirting crown... well, only when my hubbie's looking..
