Outpost towns...?!
i had never ever heard anyone utter anything about this in this board... OUTPOST TOWNS! this will be so cool.
an outpost town isnt any town, but can be converted to the town of you choice when you conquer it.
in 3do's words:
"Outpost" towns may be captured by the player and converted into any of the six town types!
i am making this post simply because i had not heard anyone talk about this here, and it is CERTAINLY news to me.
and if i hadnt heard it, maybe some others hadnt either, so im informin' da public.

outposts...
I think that we have talked about that... in a very old thread... not sure though... aye, outpost towns are true... your quote is found in the official HoMM4 site... if only that option was in HoMM3 too... I would built many many many many Ramparts (with treasuries and all), and a couple of the other types too...

Problem is: what do they mean by OUTPOST? All the neutral towns, the towns that stand between two realms, or what?
If I'd know more, I'd comment more.

There's probably just a new object in the Map Editor called an "Outpost town." You can place it on the map like a regular town, and then once you conquer it, you can decide what type you want it to be.

It would be interesting to know if once taken by a player and fully developed the town could be changed again if reconquered...

if that is the case...
...then why not make ALL towns outposts...
...it would make sense though...
...oh forget it... this one takes the un-prize for being the most stupid post I've ever made...
...just ignore it... man, i really have to get some sleep...

ABout the development of these outpost towns: you should not be able to fully develop the town (all but capitol like in hmm3).You should choose between recruiting creatures from that town (meaning the building of dwells) or raising money from it 9thus making the inhabitants angry and refusing to join your army).

I'm pretty sure outpost towns just turn into full towns in every way when you choose a side. I don't see any reason to restrict upgrading them.
I could give tons of reasons why every town shouldn't be an outpost town, but then Llith seems to have come to his senses about that so I won't bother

If you transform the outpost in your kind of town, indeed ,there's no need for restrictions. But incase of a town that you can't transform (maybe already taken by the enemy and reconquered by you), I would still apply restrictions.

I'm just thinking here, maybe when you put an outpost on a map, you can decide what buildings you want it to already have(e.g. Level I dwellings, built; Grail Structure, not availabel) like in a normal town, just whatever town you make the outpost, the building levels you set turn to the respective ones of that town.

i didnt think it was that difficult of a concept myself...
it seems to me that its just like a neutral town in H3, except that when you get it, it asks you "which town type would you like to make this outpost?"
and then once you pick, it gives you the standard starting buildings for that town, unless otherwise specified by the map editor...

Difference between random and outpost towns:
Random: Computer chooses town type prior to launching the map
Outpost: Player chooses town type upon capturing the town (this probably remains the same for the duration of the game)

NKW, do you think I'm stupid? I can think of such things myself... (*isn't in the mood today*) However, outposts seem great, and why the heck do you want them to be restricted?! there's no reason for doing that...
