Points, Points, points... blah blah blah
Just wondering what the big deal is with losing a few points.. I understand that people enjoy there records and everything else but really..
I play many people that are ranked much higher than I am , and much better I might add..
But I am just curious as to why some people will only play 1200+ 1300+ ect ect...
I mean sure you only get 1-5 points for killing some people and stand to lose 30-50 even. BUT.. if a player that is ranked lower can beat you does he/she not deserve the points?
I mean its one thing if after 5 games and 5 points for you this player gets "lucky", catches you off guard ect.. and all of sudden for your 5-1 record with him you are -45 points..
but I don't know.. just confuses me and frustrates me.. I can play well enough I think (hehe ) and I like the good challenge....
so I guess my question is :
Are people not playing because of fear of losing points? or because they assume sitting at 1450+ and opponent at 1100 (or lower) means it will not be a good game?
I thought that the new system that lists wins/loss and who too would sorta fix that.. but seems to not have people still look at points.
ANyway guess I am rambling on now..
PS: for those Barons, Legionaires ect.. that have generously donated 40-60 points to me in the last while.. please Disregard this notice

Nice topic Destro, and it has been up in this forum before
Now I cant speak for anyone but myself.
But during season 2 and 3 where I played alot more than I do now, I was one of the people advertising for games 1200+ etc.
Ur question is why this is done.
Well in my case I had a few bad experiences with people calling me a cheater etc. And a few games that simply wasnt fun, because I was much better than my opponent.
Then I started playing only people that was either veterans or had a good record (Either alot of games, or alot of wins )
And suddenly I had a streak of 20 games where I didnt have any unfinished saves, didnt have anyone calling me names etc.
Offcourse my record went from 12-1 to 32-17, but hell I will rather loose some games and have fun, than trying to protect my ranking. (That was actually the lesson I learned at that point)
Well to make a long story short, or vice versa, I think that alot off those players advertising for 1200+ will play u anyways, if ur either a veteran, or u simply have some manners.
I have more than once played a game vs a person where I knew I was better, but due to their personality we have gotten a good game anyways. And I hope some of the players who are much better than me, have thought the same when they played me.
Its as simple as that.
Perhaps some people are only interested in the ranking points etc. But im guessing the vast majority aint. So Destro just go out there and ask even if u dont have the point requirement. I they say no due to that, well u prolly wouldnt have gotten a good game anyways

I agree
yeah, I totally know what you mean.
Sometimes people care so much about their points that they'll refuse to play certain people ... even the ones who they used to play.
I suppose I like my rating just as it is (1250-1300), because I can play newbies and low-ranked footmen and still get 15 points, and also have an acceptable rating to play other barons and the legionnaires.
When I study one's toh profile, I look at more on the win/loss ratio than the points. I average about 3-2 : (33-24). When others have a 13-4 record, even though they have less points, they're most likely a better player (unless they only to play recruits and low ranked footmen, and who only play others (1000+) just to avoid the cherry ... *cough* *cough* uncoatedtitan *cough* *cough*)
Most of the high ranked players I've seen are experts, and the ones that play 50+ games are very experienced.

Okay if u really wanna know the reasoning behind it all i can tell ya...
1. First off "IF" they do loose they dont wanna loose many points so playing somebody at their level or higher they dont loose many points.
2. Everybody fears the cherry(cept chun and pietaccj) and is a great way to stop playing newbs.
3. They love there record. I remember when i was quintar my record was 13-0 before i got my first loss and it annoyed me (and no i didn't pick on newbs only idiots and some people i knew) quint was almost a captain
4. Rank means everything to people who say 1200+ 1300+ 1400+ so on and so forth. They think if somebody at 1000 or so points who wants to play them is a vet who has returned to steal there precious points....
5. I didn't play newbs early on cus i didn't think it would be a good game.. (guys who build capital week 1= dull and predictable game) Also i didn't like having a HUGE advantage over players so i never asked em even when i was a "newbie"
think thats about it.
person who posts 1200+ 1300+ 1400......... is plain and simple..... SCARED.

guess its a qeustion about bein a competetor
why did i ever joined TOH!!
To prove my skills to myself against the unknown!
TheUnknown:
for me it was names like Flamingo, Jinxer, Antal, and all the others i saw on the tourney page called www.toheroes.com back few years that inspired me to become better in the world of might and magic.
(i guess some of the names will remain in some sort of way uknown forever).
for me its really very simple!! im born to compete in almost any things i do, also in life, but i have learned some in years.
I will never take a win without feel that my opponent had a fair chance of defending himself.
Today i think i play with all the fairness i can to that both me and opponent can have a fun and exciting game.
But still i can become frustrated if i loose
but thats a part of the game.
most of the players that are high ranked with only very few wins, the loss means much more personal. and that is only encourage me more to concentrate and to play better against them
hehe before i entered this thread 2. time i didnt know what to write... but i improvised my fealings
hope this isnt to confusing talk for you out there.... whereever you are!!
Gl and have fun

Hehee Mad, U call me scared
I remember Quintar, from cadet tournie, u ole dirty bastard. Ooops thats right u young little bugger
But I dont think Its scared to wanna maximize the chance of getting a good game.
I remember the first time I became a captain, my first opponent after that promotion was Lews Therin. He had like 1060 points and a nice little blackie besides his name.
Eventhough he didnt have the points, he for sure could teach me some heroes.
And to this day I still have the feeling that nomatter what I did in that game, he would have beaten the sheit out off me.
But hell 40 points poorer and an experience richer I thought, damn that was worth it.
Yeah Scared to play Black_Knight on DoG without even haven looked at it Hehee remember that??
Well Im off, but I remember some other players who also wrote 1200+ 1300+ etc who played me anyways season 3, just because I had that vet ichon, so some ppl arent that scared

What's Wrong with this Picture
This is rather easy to explain, Vesuvius is trying to play a game of heroes online, and Melissia is home. First she just says "Ves, honey play with me instead of that game" not much affect, but Ves does get a bit distracted, As he continues playing, He looks up and Mel is strolling through the room naked. Vesuvius thinks "Well it is Zud's turn, and Ill hear the buzzer when it's my turn"
I can let you guys figure out the rest

Actually I think Ves 's problem is he dont just sit and play a game, he has to be doing 100 other things at same time. I.E. clan rankings, updates, checking mail, talking in zone. I have seen him play. He minimizes his screen at the highest resoultion so that he can see what is in chat room and play his game at same time.
So start paying attetion Ves, =) or Mel is gonna be known from now on as the person in your house that wears the Heroes pants!!! =)

heroes pants?
heroes pants? lol that must be a miniskirt then. You are right though jinxer, I cannot sit still during a heroes game and have to do other things online or otherwise.
Remember this though:
It is worth playing an opponent who is even 300 points below you, for a win is 15 points, loss is 35. Though you would lose more than you gain, far better chance of you winning the game.
The point system works well though, in my opinion, though addicts do have an advantage on the long run, that is the point... I have found that the 1500+ types are now out of my league, and I barely make it to 1500 nowadays, and my more comparable opponents fall into the 1200-1500 range which I fall into. Players below 1200 tend to be weaker than me and I feel far less of a risk losing.
Melissa tends to play weaker players I think, and has good coercive abilities to force people to play her way I think....

once upon a time, I sent a ZM to mel stating "blub".
she sent a ZM back stating that things in her game are not going well for her.
I replied that I would exercise vengeance upon the one who defeats her ... or die trying.
well, soon after that I was back in my game loading an autosave ... and after that game, I searched to see her opponent's profile, to see what I would be up against when playing him:
this person had a record of 1-22! 812 points! (handle withheld)
I then calculated that I would only gain 7 points by winning, so i thought twice before challenging him.
I later became curious as to who won that game, and it's been a few days and I havn't seen anything . . . which makes me wonder:
1 - did she bribe him? coerce him?
2 - will she do the same to me if I win?
3 - and if she does bribe/ coerce me, should I fall for it?
A woman can have such power over a man sometimes.
