Mood Music
Alright, I hope this topic will strife well to help increase your game play experience
Personally, I think music might be one of the most unestimated elements in games. Music is a powerfull tool that really helps to force a mood onto you, and depending on the sort of music you listen to, it can help you feel more at comfort and enjoying yourself in playing a game, or lose complete interest.
For example, I can't imagine playing Heroes V while listening to the latest crappy song of Avril Lavigne or RnB sort of music. It just doesn't fit.
Likewise, I find most of the music in heroes V could be improved. Hence why I decided to create this topic. I would like to know if you changed music in your game, which you changed it into, and why. People could perhaps try it out and see if they enjoy the game more because of it.
Here's my current list. I personally used a lot of instrumental music, mostly background music from anime series.
Haven: The Summoning - A new power is rising.
Alright, this isn't actually an anime song. In fact, there's speech in it. But that aside, this song really helps give a more powerfull and mighty feeling to this faction. (I have to admit I grew to enjoy playing Haven even more since I added it xD). Most notable are trumpets in this song which by themselves already give a glorious and powerfull feeling (Like the trumpets in the original H3 dungeon theme did), and combined with somewhat marching drums and a good melody to it, it really increases the glorious feeling. Especially after half of the song it is more apparent. I personally like to think this is a must
Inferno: Bruce Faulconer - Destruction (Dragonball Z Soundtrack).
Face it, the original Inferno song just sucks. It has 1 or 2 good moments in it, but that's it. Destruction is a chaotic and rough, heavy instrumental background soundtrack from Dragonball Z, which fits the harsh theme quite well in my opinion.
Sylvan: Gravitation - Missing Piece.
This is a background soundtrack from an anime you guys probably don't even wanna know about. Regardless, the song is a very calm, peacefull, and yet mysterious one. The only downside is, it will make you want to linger in your town a bit too long.
Dungeon: The Summoning - In Hollow Halls beneath the fells.
Again not an instrumental one, and although not exactly the best I can find / have for Dungeon, there's a few elements that fit it well. For one, the song has that echoing touch as if the drums are sounding through huge underground halls. The refrain is quite wild and agressive, preceeded by a more gentle part with soft trumpets (Huuzah!) sounding. The voice is somewhat monstrous, and the lyrics actually fit miraculously well. "To Dungeons deep and Caverns old" "In places deep where dark things sleep" "In the darkness, bind them". Yes, the song is actually inspired by LOTR
Academy: Bruce Faulconer - Goku and Gohan in the Time Chamber (The Best Of Dragonball Z Volume 2, number 29)
Again Dragonball Z It gives a floating feeling, although not a very deserty. Still I think it suits a magic town. Like the one I used for Sylvan, it's peacefull.
Necropolis: Bruce Faulconer - Vegeta's Theme
A must. An eerie melody combined with constant sort-of church bells sounding, this song basicly screams 'necro' all over.
Just a question: I wonder how many people actually noticed the faint part of piano play at the end of the H3 necropolis theme? The last 25 seconds orso. It was very soft but if you tuned it up high enough you could clearly distinguish it, and awkwardly enough, the sad melody somehow makes you feel sympathy for Necro.
I might post more recommendations if people prove interested enough, which I somehow doubt to be honest. Since many claimed they thought the original H5 soundtracks were good enough as they were. Still, I would suggest trying out these, but yeah, who am I
Feel free to critisize, shower in compliments, appoint those cute red stars and whatever And post your own preferences!

Actually I don't know the songs you mentioned except for the Dragon Ball songs which are very famous in japanese karaoke bars^^. But I can't really imagine to play them to the factions... But the idea of playing only the instrumental probably fits the game best... eventhough I play songs with Lyrics.
Well my favorite faction is Inferno and I listen to Metall (In Flames, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, Raunchy [a danish metall band which I love so much!!] etc.), Classical Music (Basically everbody there is before the "Romantic" starts) and Dance Music (Daft Punk, The Ceasars, The Von Bondies, Queen, Ramones)
and I found that all to go very well together:
The Dance Music for creeping in early game = keeps you happy, you don't get mad, basically it just makes you feel nice
The Metall for mid-late game = you simply feel invinsible!!
And the classic for the big epic fights... (Try Toccata Fugue in D Minor from Bach to your next big battel tooootally epic)
And yeah I agree with you Music really really helps you to enjoy the game. But well personally I think Music helps in all aspects of life^^.

It`s remind me old good times when i was playing HoMM2 and music came from cd "Ixnay on the Hombre " ("The Offspring")
As for original music it`s really annoy me after few games. I don`t know why but the more sophisticated music the more it`s getting on my nerves(Homm4 & Homm5). The best are just simple ,plain music, without orchestra and so on (HoMM 2&3)
I don`t say that the music is awful , no, i loved it.But it should be more neutral for player, as a nice , quiet background not as opera

You mean pure acoustic? And without vocals? Its nice that too and sure bears the neutral feeling, yet pleasant to listen at while playing Homm

Yeah, I would like some more variety in the game's music. As much as I love Academys music, after a few (in-game) days, I just turn off the sound. So adding extra songs might be a good idea.

I'm actually surprised so many people use songs with lyrics in it, not to mention a lot of death metal / hard rock sort of songs. I totally can't picture playing any faction or battle while listening to such music xD

I or we usually use music with folk/medieval elements just so it fits better within the games, Power-metal mostly with lyrics of knights and such, viking metal is also great.
The list usually includes Hammerfall, Manowar, Amon-Amarth, Moonsorrow and Ensiferum.

I dont think that music in H5 is THAT bad. For example, Haven´s battle music totally rocks!
However, if you could change musics in H5 to what you like, I would pick these musics:
At the start of the game: Nightwish would be nice
In the mid-game: More aggressive, Metallica, Iron Maiden or Manowar
End-game, if you are losing: Nightwish with Ghost love score, or Metallica with St.Anger.
End-game, if you are winning: Kamelot or Nightwish.
The big battle, Epic battle, Decisive battle: Only one song fits this, and that is.... Kamelot, Karma! Damn I love that song!
