Completely Lucky
Now, I realize that what I've been told, HoMM 4 is terrible even though I've never touched it just yet. This again, was from hear-say, but I'll find out later.
My point in what I found totally lucky, I had a wild notion to check Ebay for prices for the rest of the series since I grabbed HoMM 5 and began playing there. I came across, 2, 3 and 4 in a lot for sale for .99 Pounds, even though the Dollar is worth less I still grabbed it. I wound up after shipping, getting the all 3 for $11.50; now I have to get the first one off of Gamestop or EBGames.com and try that one too. Just found that way too randomly lucky and out of the ordinary. The guy must not have been much of a fan of the series, I'd imagine.

Heroes IV
It's a poor game, which is what typically happens when you fire then entire staff a month before the game is released. But it's adventure maps are amazing, although bugged to hell....so not much good to say about it. Only through loyal programmer fans such as those found in Heroes III Wake of the Gods could it be saved. When it comes to Heroes of Might & Magic it has been and always be up to the fans to make it great.
Secondly: Insulting the almighty dollar could cost you the war buddy.
Thirdly: You scored a good bargain for those games. What you paid for those games was a wise choice.

*LOL* Was that really the case? So what happened next? After the game was released, they (3DO) hired new staff, then couple of months later filed bankruptcy? All for all I agree that HOMM4 was a downfall of the series.
Merlin: I do think you had a great bargain there. It's just that for me personally, everytime the new series come out, I never reverted back to the old ones. Never enjoyed that. It feels like going back against civilization

grr I like H4. It is different and you have to perservere with it to get accostomed to the changes, but it is just as good as 3, and I'm yet to really get into 5 {although I preordered it}...
I've heard criticism of the AI... that may be true, but you should really give it a go uhuh
That was a lucky bargain!
And the US dollar is sinking due to the incompetence of their goverment hehee

I got my Heroes-4 CD back scratched badly, after borrowing it some years ago. It still worked, but after I uninstalled the game once, I wasn't able to install it back again.
Didn't like the game that much to order a new copy, but I enjoyed the game while I played. It's got a different, but unique feel to it. In a way I thought the overpowered heroes were kind of fun. I do understand why a lot of hardcore Heroes fans rejected it, because it deviates a lot from the original style of gameplay.
A few weeks ago I borrowed Heroes 5 from my best friend, and played a few hours every now and then since. The new skill system aside, it really feels like an improved version of Heroes 3, and a good improvement from what I have seen. I suppose a few years ago, I'd have gotten really addicted to it, but my gaming days are all but over. Too many things to do and too little time
Sounds like you did quite a bargain there indeed Merlin!

I played Homm 4 only for a week, but that was too much already.
Creatures with own movement? Fog of war? Superman-like heroes? Only 4 recruitable troops in city? Bah. That's certainly NOT homm!
Long live homm 3 and 5!

What I dislike most in HOMM4 is the limited number of recruitment, which has never been a feature in the other series. I also recall I wasn't able to manage the campaign with Lysander, until I realize that it was imperative to get Order Magic up to the highest level, by which you can cast Hypnotize (Puppet Master in HOMM5) when fighting some strong creepers. It also means this magic school is way more superior than the others, and imbalance is always a serious flaw.

It's actually more realistic that creatures can move independently lol, and also that heroes can fight in battle. Similarly having a choice of creatures rather than upgrades is more realistic. Like I said it was a shift though, and after playing H2 and 3 every week for years it took me a while to get used to. Now it's hard to get used to H3 again

Yeah, I'll start playing them all as soon as they arrive here in the box that I'm hoping was packaged properly. It's been shipped, today makes the 3rd day it's been on it's way, and at some point in the near future I should have them. I'll review each of them as soon as I get a first impression with each of them.

I did not know if I should buy the game or not, so I saw it to a friend. I watched it about 20 minutes and then I made up my mind. The neutral creatures can walk??? How are we going to explore with small armies?? Must our main hero be on his guard all the time since lots of lvl 7 creatures may suddenly attack?
Since then I have never played HOMM4

You can turn them off, although I prefer them to attack - helps with experience. You can see where it is safe to walk, so it's not really a big problem. And it is more realistic
I hope you give H4 a go when your games arrive

*clears throat*
Ahem....I would choose experience only if it were Solmyr and cash only if I had a dwarven treasury. Thought the Toh'ers would finish me off did you? Why? Was it because TheUltimateMale took me as his number one apprentice? I can understand you being jealous but I thought you were made of sterner stuff Pandora. Et tu Brudora? And I would like to request jello shots for the party as well. I remember this couple in Key West. They grabbed my buddy and he was so happy....what a party that was.
