True.
But for the love of quake... Irresistible magic
Irresistible. And now a new faction jumps out killing the main speciality of warlocks. It has the same sense as giving leadership to the necro.

Yeah but those inviduals are pretty strong. Compare a black dragon to a spectral dragon? :B
And Undead lack exspecially in initiative which makes sense ofcourse, animated corpses ain't so fast.

Quote: I had a own topic for this idea but it is going to get presented in this one afterall. (Mean moderators )
I took some freedom and made an alternative skill for the Necropolis which replaces Leadership because at current state it offers very little benefit for the Necropolis, Herald of Death being an exception.
I also made some concept how this new skill Dread could look.
Description: Since undead armies don't posses a morale the necromancers have developed an ability to strike fear in to hearts of the enemy.
Reduces enemy's morale by one point for each skill level, maximium of three points at expert level.
Note by Unixmage: The main skill's morale reducing effect (Dread) doesn't stack with banshee howl so the higher value is used when you have both.
I first thought about crossed schytes behind the skull but then I liked it to resemble the leadership skill a bit so that's why the trumpets.
Naturally I have also made skills to replace perks Emphaty and Retribution.
Despair: Enemy deals less damage depending on it's negative morale.
As you can see the "Eagle" is falling behind the weeping knight also his sword is broken in to pieces.
Malice: Each time enemy suffers a negative morale the necromancer's turn is pushed forward, if positive morale triggers necromancer's turn is pushed backwards in the ATB bar.
Here you can see this scary, hooded guy with sad-looking spirits, malicious eh?
The concepts are still quite raw but any feedback, good and bad is welcome.
Good idea needing soem tweaks, but the patch 3.1 is out and there is little hope for totaly changing shattering Necromancers Leadership

a shatter effect makes sense... since necro cant use morale
however if a necro player were to focus on lowering morale... it could be deadly for the opponent and a lot of people would then complain that its imbalanced XD
-2 from ring... -1 banshee howl.. -3 from the shatter skill... i wont include howl of terror because you almost never get it... cloak another -2
so in total thats a whopping -8... add a sorrow spell to that and the enemy will pretty much never act XD
still its not uncommon for sylvan or haven to have more than 8 morale so i guess it would be balanced
speaking of balance.. try attacking during week of balance to make sure morale and luck wont affect the battle
really effective against haven and sylvan.. i guess it could work against necro too

repacing leadership is an exelent idea!
they should also link herald of death and diplomacy, because diplomacy increases the chance herald of death happening.
And turn diplomacy into deceit maybe, or some word which fits the description of causing enemies to become allies.

I think Leadership for Necromancer can have its purpose - if u want to mix armies, this will prevent low morale in your army. That reverse morale would be too strong - it's completelly different thing when u start with 0.5 ATB than reducing already filled ATB back to 0.5 for enemy creature.

Well mixed with some Academy creatures you could have a rank of all ranged creatures (helpful in a seige). Or could you imagine switching out the Bone/Spectral/Ghost dragons for lots of Arcane Archers..or Shadow/Red/Black Dragons?!
Each faction has some creatures that are meh, and some that are WOW. Get a high enough Morale, and you can mix up your own ultimate lineup without worrying about low morale.

Fair point, but how many people actually go for morale when its not even a requirement?

Well for all but maybe Academy and Necro..I do. Leadership is a great skill. Not only can it help your creatures go more often, but it has other perks that can be helpful anyhow. Leadership with Empathy on Kraugh is a Killer. Especially if you can lay your hands on some +morale artifacts.

ideas for dispair
why not give a reason to avoid morale altogether? how about the ability to decrease the damage of creatures with high morale?
any other ideas for this replacement skill will be appreciated, regardless how stupid they may sound at first!

The best solution for this ancient substitution-riddle is rather simple.
I agree completely that making leadership plain reduce morale points would be imbalanced. Everyone knows that. For creeping it would be tremendous, to impose right from the start a -1 or -2 morale penalty on the opponents? That would make this creeping faction even more ridiculously fast.
Besides, the effects would stack with previously mentioned artifacts and abilities to impose devastating morale effects on opponents on a regular basis. Not every opponent can take a -5 morale lightly, especially those who profit little from leadership and choose not to take this skill.
My suggestion for this substitution would be simple and still effective.
Apathy (Leadership for necromancers) - Decreases any morale BONUSES from the opposing army. This talent is NOT going to work if the opponent creatures have NO active morale bonuses (or neutral morale).
Basic: -1 morale Advanced: -3 Expert: -5 on morale BONUSES
This means neutral morale opponents would not be shred to pieces, while heroes counting on high morale to deliver punishment (empathy/ retribution), would be heavily countered.
I, for once, think this would be quite a balanced and tactical skill choice. And way better than what regular leadership has to offer at the moment.

Another ability which could be added is something like weakening strike, except that the hero attack makes the enemy run away, like the fear my roar warcry (although initiative loss would be too overpowered).
Or "paranoia" which works like the disguise spell in H3 (although maybe excecuted in a better way)
Or maybe even some ability that works like treachery for goblins, on the enemies. "If an enemy stack reaches a point where it contains only x% of it's original stack, it will join you".
With x being something like the stacks negative morale times 2. So if a stack of 200 peasants with -5 morale reach 20, they'll join you.
Another idea is "disheartening". If you kill an enemy stack during battle, any enemy stack on or adjacent to the corpse will recieve negative morale.
