H6 : Clash of Dragons?!

Ok here is something I have been thinking about for awhile, and I want to know what you think.  This is going to go a little different direction and as I get more feedback there will be more to it (Ie town ideas, creature ideas, skills, ect)

First here is the basic premise. Haven is pretty much destroyed, and the angels have abandoned the cause.  All the towns teir 7's have taken to fighting each other, and have left the towns they once supported.  The campain is about the towns various efforts to convince them to return.  (Ie no appocolyptic scenarios).  Some will succeed, some will find new creatures to support them instead, and some of the tier 7's will get fed up and leave the plane altogether.  Meanwhile the 7 dragon 'gods' have taken form to find out what the heck is going on.

There will be times in the main missions that you will face the same type of towns you are controlling.  Pretty much they think the creatures should be left alone until they return on their own.  Other times the other factions will try to stop you, as they try to get back their own.

Feedback is appreciated..even negative, but if you don't like something please supply an alternative.

there are 2 primordial dragons
Asha created her children - the six elemental dragons
Urgash created a twisted version of his sisters children - the six great demon lords; and after a while for reasons unknown yet they were replaced by a single ruler - the Demon Sovereign (Kha-Beleth)

Yes I am talking about the 6 elemental dragons and the mage that became the 7th.  .  Leaving the primordial out of it for now.  One of the things I always had a bit of a problem with is how many dragons are running around.  Thanks for the clarification, however .

Ehm, first of all, isn't that title already used in one of the H3 Chronicles?

The idea of highest-tier left the town and needed to be persuaded to return has been frequently used. In fact in H5 it's twice if I'm not mistaken (Findan's campaign for the Emeralds and Ylaya's for the Blackies). Reusing that would presumably displease the fans.

Why don't you join the discussion here, there's already an interesting discussion going on about H6 possible storyline.

Hehe it has been awhile since I played H3, don't honestly remember.

As for the enticing the 7th teir, yes it has been done as side quests, but the main quests are always 'save the world'.  Some (insert evil faction) is trying to conquer, destroy, or otherwise manipulate the world and you have to stop them.

Now, even though there are a few "Bring the 7th teir back into the fold" scenarios there are going to be some big differences.  For instance, not every town will be successful in convincing the creatures to return.  However, you do have a big point.  Would people be interested enough in a whole set of campains about returning them to the fold?  Not that the people who make the game would consider something other then 'Save the world'.

Here is one twist I am considering.  In some of the campains you would have to face off with one of the elemental dragons (who would be very tough) to prove your worth to once again lead their 'children'.  (They would be the enemy hero leading an army comprised of (for example) Angels and their upgrades).  They would have unique skills, Unique Spells, ect.  No 'armeggeddon' type scenarios.  Of course this campain would be a rare one, not every campain would end in a battle with the elemental dragons.

Some might send you through a maze, others might end with you fighting in an arena, ect.  There would be unlockables also.  Once you successfully conclude a campain, certain special spells/abilities/heroes/ ect.

You may be correct that not very many would be interested though.  As for the name..I will have to work on one that hasn't been used before.

I had these idea a while ago (but then the dragons were evil and the elementals god).

I like the idea, but you CANNOT remove angels form haven, green dragons fro m sylvan, blackies from dungeon etc.
They are classic.
If they have stayed in 3 games they are classic.

The creatures would still be in the game, just not as a part of the towns.  Here are a few other changes I would propose.  Now these are probably going to be a bit unpopular.

I propose a change of the skills.  I think having two specific skills should open up a third.  The skill opened would be one that is an improvement over the general skills available.

For instance. You have a hero that has basic attack and defense.  Then you could access basic Combat Expertise.  This skill would give bonuses to both attack and defense, and replace the other two (but would still take up two skill slots).  It's perks would be better also.  Since it replaces the other two, only two skill slots are used up, but now your skill is slightly better.  Sort of a reward for having taken two complimentary skills.  These skills however would require two points to increase instead of one, and there would be an option to 'save' skill points while leveling up.

Coming up with a skill for every possible combo would be tough, but I think it could be done.  This would add a layer of strategy to things.

As for artifacts, my proposal is ultra rare artifacts that are 'symbiotic' and increase in ability as your hero increases in level.  Not only that, but if lost to the enemy it would be useless to them.  Once 'attached' to an owner, no other hero could use it, not even another in your own army.  They should be even rarer then the relics however.  They would not be able to be placed on maps directly, but if the random artifact placer is used it would have a chance to have these.

Heroes would be 'tagged' as might or magic, and which tag they had would determine the chance of receiving certain skills.  That's it for now, more to come later.  My next post will have the story and a bit of the first campain.

The idea is great, but some things just don't match.

For example, I can see Emerald Dragons abandoning the elves, and black dragons abandoning the dark elves, as well the magmas. But I can't see the ArchDevils, Spectral Dragons and Titans abandoning their masters. It makes little sense - Archdevils are simularly hive minded as any other demon I reckon, Spectrals are raised and controlled by Necromancers like all other undead, and Titans are created and given life by Wizards.

I don't see those running off.

That aside, one can wonder how desperate a faction would be for the aid of their Tier 7s. The elves for example seemed to settle for the fact the dragons no longer wanted to give their aid.

If the tier 7 left, the factions would try to make up for their absence, right? So they might train "super" units to increase the power. For example, the dark elves might make up for that by experimenting with breeding between, say, a hydra and their zaur mount. The result would be a gorgon-like thing, right. Or if the elves needed replacements for their beasties, they'd train, like, mega druid/ranger/warlords. Its just a thought.

Sidenote- I like the symbiosis too, but complete unusefulness for other heroes? I guess that couldwork.

Sidenote Numero Dos- The combo-skill abilities would be amazing if they came with suped up abilities. Say, Parry and Return for Attack/Defense

Yes, it would be unusual for some creatures, but I have thought of this.

For the Titans and Necromancer type dragons, there is always a problem with giving something life (or unlife).  Sometimes they develop minds of their own.  The way I pickture the Titan's (et al) is that a Rogue wizard cast a spell that made them freewilled.  Once that happen the Titans wanted respect and such so they basically went on strike.

Now dragons are notoriously strong willed creatures.  Strong necromantic magic is needed to keep their 'spirits' in check as undead.  Since the necromanters were near destroyed, they just do not have the power needed to do so.

And Archdevils are more like the kings/queens of a hive.  It is their will that keeps the other demons in line.  If they don't want to do something then only Devil Princes or whoever is the equivilant of "The prince of darkness" in h6, has any hope of making them.

As for combo skills, the perks would be superior to be sure.  Otherwise they would not be worth upgrading too.

Now as for a little about the story and a first draft sneek peek of the first campain.

Deep in the celestial realms the Angels are holding a meeting.  Upset that the humans have abandoned the Griffen (bah spelling) Empire to form something entirely different, they are deciding what is the next course of action.

As they are discussing it a deep, but melodious voice interrupts them.  "We too have become displeased with the current state of events.  The creatures of this world are becoming too reliant on our aid.  Perhaps it is time that we test their worth?"

Startled the Angels drawl their weapons, but as they turn around they are suprised to see the Emerald Dragons.  "We can not abandon them, the Inferno legions would destroy them in days, even as weakened as they are."

"Not neccessarily.  There are rumors of a battle for supremecy ammoung the Devils, Black Dragons, and others.  Word has it even the Titans and the Necromancers pet dragons have rebelled.  Now may be the perfect time." rebutes the eldest Emerald.

The rumors are true, all the great beasts have their own troubles to deal with, and the struggle ammoung the great beasts start.  A year passes, and the various towns have been without the aid of their strongest forces.  Most are struggling just to survive, and have not had the resources to do much of anything.  (Eventually will have to expand on this, as it is bare bones, but it conveys the gist)

Campain 1 : Stronghold

A lone figure sits by the fireplace.  Scars and warpaint can be seen under a cloak made from a behemoths skin.  The fire suddenly flares up, and the warrior tumbles backward to a combat stance, weapon ready.  A voice is heard on the wind.  "Warrior, the time has come.  The great cyclops has been missing from your tribe for too long.  The blood of our enemies does not spill on the ground, but resides safe inside their still beating chest.  We are strong, proud warriors, not little old women who cower in their blankets.  Go, find our brothers, bring them back.  Then we shall once again be strong."

The fire and wind die down and the figure spits on the ground.  "Bah, magic." Still the voice speaks the truth.  The glory of combat calls to his blood.  "Very well voice, I will go.  Let all that stand in my way fear my name.  The name of C'rak Hack."

Objective : Locate information on where the Cyclop Troops might be located.
Bring the other Stronghold towns under your banner.
Kill all neutrals (any that join count as being 'killed')

Side Objectives : Have at least 1000 goblins in your army.
Find hidden cache to supply your army (if located these funds will not be applied until mission 2).

Enemy towns 3, starting town 1.  Other towns also enemies with each other.

Starting bonuses.

All weeks are week of the goblin

Ballista and Tent
or
3000 gold

Combo skills and symbiotic artifacts explained..well sort of.

Ok not every two skills would have a Combo Skill alternative.  For instance Light Magic and Dark Magic. Here are a few of the ones that I see as making sense, and a general (still working on the combo skill's perks) way the skill works and makes sense. Any ability listed is in addition to what the individual skills give you.

Defense and Light Magic - Defense Barrier.  A random light spell is placed on any unit you defend with.  It is cast as the level of the skill (ie basic defense barrier invokes a light spell cast as basic light skill with and duration will be 1, 2, or 3 turns (determined by defense barrier's skill level)).

Attack and Dark Magic - Hexing Strike (much like the mummy's ability).  Invokes random dark spell (works much like defense barrier).  However, if a creature already has an effect that will be a mass effect on all enemies. (Though it might not last as long).

Attack, Defense, War Machines, Logistics : Seige Master.  When attacking castle moats and towers do 1/2 damage to your units.  Also friendly ranged units ignore 1/2 the penalty that walls usually give them.  When defending moats and towers do 25% more damage, and enemy range units suffer more damage reduction (whatever is normal + 50% of that more).  Troops gain +1 speed and +2 init at expert level.

Now Symbiotic Artifacts.  Each artifact gets stronger the higher the level of the hero who wears it, and can only be worn by the first hero to equip it. The artifact's 'level' is always equal to that of the person wearing it.

Example.

Lion's Skull : Head Item : Heroes Melee or Ranged attack does 2% more damage per level of the Skull.  Grants access to skill known as lions roar.  (Lion's Roar: After activation the heroes initiative is increased by 10% for every 3 levels of the Skull rounded up, lasts number of rounds equal to 1/3 level rounded down).

Put on hold due to lack of interest
