Heroes III: Scoring in a campaign maps/game
Dear fellow heroes [Are there actually heroines sticking to this old game? =)]
While I've been playing the game for a long time, I don't actually know exactly how the scoring system works. I guess that it's determined by level of difficulty as well as the quickness of completion... But I've more detailed questions to ask
1stly, the full campaign is usually fought over a few maps/missions. Is the total number of turns for all maps taken into consideration, or only the final map before the end of campaign (and the reveal of scores)?
Secondly, if I don't remember wrongly, only shadow of death allows you to tune the difficulty to the highest level ("impossible"?). Are there any patches that allows us to tune the level of difficulty to "impossible" for other heroes III(Arm. Blade, Rest. of Erathia)in order to get maximum scores?
Finally, I think I'd noticed some errors in the game (wrong coloured border gate) in campaign maps. Can we actually edit campaign maps with map editors and/or other means? How do we do it?
Thanks in advance.
Y.J.

The score is made of how many towns you have, have you the grail build in any, the speed and difficulty.
On the campaign the score on the maps is added to eachother and the final score of all maps is the one you get

ong_y_j, you can edit the campaigns, but they need to be extracted first because they are bundeled inside the data files.
I extracted the campaigns here. (scroll down to the bottom of page) You can use the campaign editor to extract individual maps which you can edit with the map editor.

I don't know how scores are calculated for campaigns but there is a score calculator for scenarios.

Wow... campaign maps extracted

I extracted the campaigns here. (scroll down to the bottom of page) You can use the campaign editor to extract individual maps which you can edit with the map editor.
The knowledge shared by everyone in this community seems so *god-like* to me... Seriously, all of you make me feel like a total newbie in this game, even though I used to play it for years...=( There are SO many things I didn't know... All the 'small' details that would turn out to be critical in real, high level match play. I guess I was too engrossed with the campaign games; I'd little human-human match experience.
I think this is asking for the impossible, but is it possible to actually edit errors in existing campaign maps? The extraction style is good enough- I can play the campaign maps as individual scenarioes (and tune the difficulty) but it doesn't really feel like a campagin anymore. Can I actually edit the maps and rebundle it back as "campaigns"?
Once again, thanks in advance, and many thanks to all of you for your wonderful sharings in this and every other threads.

Here's what you want to do.
First, I suggest that you create a folder just for the campaign you are working on. Put the campaign file (*.h3c) in that folder.
1) Open the file with the campaign editor.
2) If all you want to do is change the difficulty, go to the edit menu and click on campaign properties. At the bottom, check "Scenario difficulty is user selectable". Save the file and you are done. See at bottom on how to play the edited campaign.
3) If you want to edit the individual maps, go to the file menu and click "export scenario maps". The individual maps will show up in the same folder as your campaign file.
4) Open the scenario map with the map editor.
5) Edit and save the map. (in the edit menu there is a search feature that might come in handy)
6) Go back to the campaign editor (re-open the campaign if you closed it)
7) Go to the file menu and click "refresh scenario maps".
8) Save the campaign and you are done.
To play the campaigns, put your saved campaign file in the heroes/maps folder.
Start Heroes, start "new game", pick "campaign", pick "custom". (if you pick one of the others you will get the original un-edited campaign)
Your edited campaign should show in the list.

That is exactly what I want to do!!! Thank you VERY MUCH, Binabik.
After achieving maximum scores for all campaigns, it'll be time to play a one on seven at 200% A.I. That should keep me occupied for a few more years... If only my play disc can last so long! Too bad I can't back up the play disc, even though I bought the original...
