Poll Question: What kind of problem is this?
Hi all,
I recently installed BootCamp on my Mac, so that I can have Windows and play my lovely Heroes III, every now and then. I have created a thread for this purpose; you can find it here.
The point is, that as I mentioned on that thread when I created it, it seems that the application of HeroesIII might crash with no particular reason. So far I thought this was a problem of BootCamp. However, I might be wrong. More specifically, I have a specific save (here) with which it seems that I can not proceed to the next day. However, I sent it to a friend of mine who has Windows on a normal pc, and he has trouble as well proceeding to the next day.
So far, and this holds for this save game as well, I am playing random maps created with Angelitos Fiesta - version 1.11. However, the fact that others can't proceed to the next day, makes me skeptical whether the problem that I am facing is due to my Mac, or is more general and has something to do with HeroesIII and / or this specific random generator.
So, in order to get a feeling of what is going on with the rest of you guys, please respond to the following question.
Note, that I would appreciate your feedback on the Operating System that you use, as well as the processor, and finally on the version of Heroes III that you use to continue.
I will start by replying to this thread to give you an example.
One final note: If initially you have a problem and you can't move on to the next day, but later on you manage to proceed by one day, state clearly how you made it ...
Thank you all in advance,
I think it is important for 2vs2 games, which is the reason I was testing it (oh, my fellow player was the computer in case you are wondering ...).
And now the question:
I load the game and press end of turn and ...

If I understand this right (which im not sure I do) you play with one or more comp players. In that case my guess would be that after you end turn, its the comps turn and its turn simply never ends.
What you do is: load the game with the comp player replaced by a human player, play the turn for the comp and save when its your turn again. The problem should now be fixed and you can load the game with only one human player.

Exactly, I am playing with computer players as well, so that I can get a feeling of the generator on 2vs2 since I am about to play some games in a few days and I suggested this template. I had never thought about what you are saying though. But the point is that Heroes terminates (the game shuts down) and does not run forever (which is my guess on what you are suggesting). Try to load the saved game and press end of turn. Can you move on to the next day? What happens? That is the poll question. Try it.

I will try it when I log in back to windows and report here.

Indeed, reloading on hotseat mode, allows you to bypass the problem. One of the players was blocked in his starting position. May be this was the reason. I am wondering though, is this common?
Anyway, thanks for your help maretti. I assume with human players nothing like that happens on the specific template (and in general).

I've actually had problems like those for years. From 1999 actually.
They just seem to come up in hotseat/single mode once in a 100 games or so. Back in roe they came up once in 15 games or so. Haven't encountered any in wog though.
No the blocked player doesn't cause it. It appears in normal maps also. Not just in random maps.

"I am about to play some games in a few days and I suggested this template."
How about you tested the temps I came up with, as you said you would? (One of them needs a bit of ajusting though)
"Try to load the saved game and press end of turn."
Sorry I cant. Dont have the game atm.
"One of the players was blocked in his starting position."
Shouldnt be a problem.
"I am wondering though, is this common?"
No, happens very rarely and only on the comps turn. I believe that the longer the game runs the higher the chance is that this bug will occur. Ive only seen this 2-4 times. First time against Tim on crystal city, where I came up with the solution on how to slove it.

I know. I owe many things to many guys.
Practically, until Dec. 15 I can't spend time on Heroes again. This weekend, I spent 3-4 hours on the specific template. If I had to test templates, it would require a day or two and I don't have the time. But before I test those temps, I owe another thing to Xarfax's thread. Now, I think I can finish that within a day, since I've already started writing - and actually more than half is complete.
These two weeks should pass. That's all I want now.
