Musicians of Might and Magic!
this is an idea that has been mulling over in my head for a few months, now. you rarely get many music themed fantasy worlds, so this might be the thing to make the series games magic.
it takes place in another world, Lyrica, where the world is split for each race and different music types dominate the races magic and might function. in this game, technology like guitars, amps, cars, etc are mined and grown by races, depending on what they want. this is a RTS mixed with third person action, so you will be able to command troops by joining a unit that is available using the hero, use it and then leave it if you so wish.
without further a due, let me introduce the races.
Humans- Mods and preppies. music style would either be classical music or pop music (i mean very cheesy pop songs, generally think S club 7 or Take that and you've got the idea). they are Arrogant, snobbish and think that their way is always best. they have one of the biggest empire, and are the most backstabbing wretch's to ever walk Lyrica.
Dwarves- Hippies. music style would be the flower power movement, like bob dylan and jefferson airplanes. they are often stoned, but generally try and get along with everyone and every thing. they live in the forest, shared with the lycanthrobes, and wish to spread free love for everyone.
Orcs- Rappers. music style is self explanitary, rap. most of them are good people, but get very tetchy when you make a insulting comment, real or otherwise (iz it becoz i is black blooded, innit!). they live on the great urban land, and have become more hostile of late.
elves- Rockers and metalhead. Music style would be anything from hard rock to thrash and power metal. they are very... epic, the elves, with a flowerly use of language and guitar solos that melt faces. they live on the open plains, and the music can be heard for miles around.
Vampires- goths. the breakaway section of the elves who when and delved further into the darker metal (death, doom, black, grindcore etc). they keep themselves to themselves, not wishing to harm anyone, as they have all the blood they need in the form of zombie emos.
Goblins- ravers. the Technical bods of the game are into dance music (william would like them). they make up for their lack of physical by siding with the orcs most of the time, providing them with weapons and backing tracks.
werewolves- Indie and grunge. the more violent sector of the dwarves, wishing to expand the forest to take in everyone!
high elves- sellout! their music is hair metal and glam rock. hated by both vampires and elves, and many more for their poncing about. they allied with the demons, in the hope that they will allow them to put on the show of a life time before the great silence happens.
Demons- the beings of silence... none wants them!
so, what do you think, feel free to make suggestions to it. it's just an idea, after all.

What is it with people constantly trying to associate a music genre with each faction lately?

Sorry? What happened to symphonies and slow music opera and well. Generally less voilent or outright extreme music.Except for the hippie music but that doesnt really count.
There are so many types of music but it seems every faction your picking has rock/metal etc music that is what most of society hears today .
Edit: No seriously, Can you see a dwarf, Being dwarfed by humans and elves etc , sing metal? I think opera (AKA Headache inducing screaming) is more appropriate.

this isn't meant to be taken literally... remember that this is a game. not something that anyone actually expects to happen. and screw opera, it sucks anyway.

i'm generally trying to move away from that stereotype of elves being tree huggers and dwarves being iron kissers. i generally want to go for the feel of the music and connecting it to the race. flower power is very relaxed music, so it suits dwarves alot, whilst metalheads music is epic, so it suits the elves.
and besides, i doubt anyone would want to play as vampires if they were midgets!

Heroes 5 is about violence but it still doesnt use any semblence shape or form of metal, Violent music as in violent sound levels and adrenaline inducing sound etc.
The game is an alternate world about music. Not war really.
BTW the only Third-person /Real-time strategy game combined together failed misreably on the real time part. Pathfinding was terrible, The camera was frustrating and it weakened you terribly to command troops in the RTS way, But you had to do it to move siege weapons around.

i see what you mean, but the main focus of this game is going to be the third-person combat, so adrenline is whats needed, really

Thats what failed the game. you only got the RTS mode about 55% of the way through the game. And trust me that when you think you know the game quite well you dont want a buggy, weak, and annoying RYS mode to bother you in any shape way or form.
