Well after all if you make the buildings level require too high and then remove its place from the menu (texture edit) it will be not possibly to build it.

Or change the building effect with something you want (but the last work on half...) ...

Map file format documentation

I guess my question is more file orientated, I hope it fit's in here best.

Since Tapani's random map generator has not been updated for nearly a year (he seems to be inactive since April 2007) and I would like to see additional features I am interested in writing a new one for ToE.

While qualification is not an issue, free time on the other side is rare and I don't want to spend a lot of time on analyzing file formats or all possible entries for xml files. Is there some documentation available?

I am especially interested in knowledge about
- "map.xdb" (e.g. possible entries, lists of map-objects, etc.),
- "GroundTerrain.bin" (file header, terrain numbers, etc.) and
- everything else that helps me save time

@sfidanza: I changed their anim SpeedFactor variable to 2 (default variable is 1). It turned out great! It isn't 100% synched (more like 75%), but it defenently looks more realistic now. Thanks!

Ok, i know i PMed some modders but i really need an answer. how do i make stuff transparent on creatures? i tried to do it but i got holes in the back:

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Wulfstan, sorry for the (slightly) late reply but I've worked out what's going wrong.  Your Alpha Channel is pure black, so everything on the Dragon which is also pure black will turn out transparent.  This is affecting parts of the wings and the head, etc.  This is easy to fix: just use a completely different Alpha Channel colour, like green, and repaint the areas on the texture you actually want to be transparent.  I'll do it right now and send the finished .dds, hopefully.

EDIT:  Here we are, this should do it.  This green doesn't appear anywhere else in the texture except in the areas we want transparent, so it's safe to use for the Alpha Channel, like so:

@silpion: I'm afraid there are no existing resources detailing what you ask for. I'll try to answer any specific question you might have, but I have no time right now to write a complete reference. Hopefully, someone else will.

@BIGJOCKER: what wold you like to change in a hero's speciality? You can assign another speciality to a hero in his/her AdvMapHeroShared file. If it is map specific, you can set the speciality in your map file in the AdvMapHero tag.
If you want to tweak some speciality's parameters, you can do it in DefaultStats.xdb. But you'll be limited to what's available there.

I want to speciality of the hero who's spec.is War Dancers. I want it to be a spec. of Centaurs. Is this possible? Or can I completely change the spec for the hero? I want it to be awailable for all the game not for the specific map.

@BJ:  I've looked in DefaultStats.xdb, and what you ask isn't directly possible because the creature specialties are hard-coded.  I think you could make it work, though, if you completely swap the Centaurs with the War Dancers, using the Centaurs under the War Dancers' ID.  This would take time but it's the only way as far as I can see.

Or you can use Haggash' specialty: Centaur Commander. Just give it to Gilraen instead of Blade Master in
/MapObjects/Preserve/Gillion.(AdvMapHeroShared).xdb

You need to change:
- Specialization to HERO_SPEC_CENTAUR_MISTRESS (instead of HERO_SPEC_BLADE_MASTER)
- SpecializationNameFileRef to
/Text/Game/Heroes/Specializations/Stronghold/CentaurMistress/Name.txt
- SpecializationDescFileRef to
/Text/Game/Heroes/Specializations/Stronghold/CentaurMistress/Description.txt
- SpecializationIcon to
/UI/H5A2/Icons/Heroes_Specializations/Centaur_Mistress.(Texture).xdb#xpointer(/Texture)

@silpion: You can try the modding wiki, I supose. Also it helps to check things in the Map Editor itself, that can help find stuff.

@Wulfstan: Sorry about not noticing it earlier, but after taking a closer look, I discovered the real problem: you got rid of the spikes across the dragon's back, which were part of the creature's model.  I fixed the textures, and we end up with this:

You can't totally get rid of them unless you want to end up with the holes in the creature, but I think you can shorten them so they become more subtle.  I can try that for you if you like.
