Haven: Hawk
Sylvan: (were)wolf, Stag
Necropolis: Abominations, things made from bits of other animals that are only alive because no one bothered to kill them.
Inferno: Salamander
Academy: Giant Scorpion/Beetle, Elephant

Abominations for Necropolis sounds great, but how about something like freelance or rogue spirits that just weren't bound to the Necromancers. Inferno should have strange elementals. Scarabs and Jackals should be with the Academy. What about Giant Rats or an entire group of rat-kin (thank you Majesty!) for Haven? Lizard stuff like Vipers and Cobras should be for Dungeon. Hmmm, Fortress should have Yeti and some kind of snow devil or something. Stronghold. Um, Vultures are good, might as well add Rocs, and maybe some kind of Rhino.

Academy: Giant Snakes (like a rattlesnake) and Ooze
Necro: I like the idea of loose spirits, and how about a Giant Spider?

Ok, but here we start conflicting with the coolnes-factor. Because seriously, how threatened would my Hero carying with him Hunters and Unicorns feal by a pack of ... Salamanders?
I would probably go with:
Haven: Boar
Sylvan: Wolf
Academy: Elephant?
Fortress: Bear
Inferno: Nightmare
Dungeon: Manticore
Necropolis: Spider?
Stronghold: Vulture

Ok. Well, be aware that most of those I mentioned are animals, not magical beasts (Nightmare excepted).

As those of you who've known me for a while should know, I am basically a mono-Necropolis player. I take any additions to them very seriously. Actually, I take anything about Heroes seriously. As such, i am going to be blunt.
1. Scarabs & Necropolis- Just doesn't fit. Undead bugs? And why invent a creature when you can find one just as easily.
2. I don't think Haven used War Hounds. Hippogriffs sound nice though. Sylphs...Plausible.
3. Inferno stuff- I think the Ifreet is an excellent suggestion. Salamanders could be good if they're big or come in hordes.
4. Fortress is me second faction to me heart. And as far as I know, Behemoths aren't bears. And rocs are Arabian, not Dwarven. Mountain Serpent = Basilisk?
5. Can't really go wrong with Sylvan. Take anything from an enchanted forest and you've got it. Leprocauns? Nymphs?
6. Dungeon stuff should be reptilian. So you can't really go wrong with that either. Troglodytes have to be one of the neutrals. And any dino like zaur will work.
7. Academy - Paraform, since when do Winter Tigers stray into the Silver Cities' deserts? And the Ooze is a good one. Um... I still like my Jackal idea. Jackal Knights like AOM's Anubite. Scarabs the size of semis would be fun to battle.
8. Stronghold- Ogres, Vultures, Still think Rocs, and Behemoth.
PS- Daystar, I thought you didn't like bugs. But I do think that Spiders would be fitting for the Necropolis.
PSS- No one has seen head, tail, horn, or fang of the Chimera.

I dont like the idea. It ruins the whole point of scouts with few units and makes the game even more factored around luck
"Omg you got the (weak)Salamanders? I got the (uber)griffins on week 1!
Or
"I Had a HORDE? and you just got a few who ran away? damn!"

I picked a random creature. Doesnt matter anyway it could be 600 salamanders and the other guy got 20 griffins. The point is that its another random factor that could make the game harder

Well, there could be a balance thing. Or perhaps it changes based on the Hero's level/army.

That's why i think attitude will play an integral part in the creatures. Like, certain cretures will have certain attitudes that only attack on certain circumstances. Others will be drawn to big armies. Others will be gentle training for beginning heroes. Like, say, 20 griffins see an army of 50 Scouts and Blood Furies and an army with 5 Scouts. They will see the bigger army and ignore the smaller one.
Another thing is the creature's native home and there domestic value. If elephants see an Academy army and a Necropolis army, they will attack the Necropolis one by nature. Also, an academy army attacking the Elephants will just gain a couple of movement points.

Quote: Why does everybody dislikes salamanders? Why everybody thinks they are weak creatures?
They can take on any royal griffon.
Salamanders are about the same strength as a level 6 creature, they control fire or temperatures and are huge with six legs.
Well, I don't dislike the Salamander [beast] as such, like I said, my approach was just to have these units be animals, and I don't like the Salamander [animal] a lot.
