I'm always drawn to standard and Chinese chess.  Despite knowing how to play, I'm still a sloppy player.  I lack the patience to sit and think a great deal about my moves or their consequences.  It's not long before my initial optimism gets whittled down by the loss of a number of my pieces.  Maybe if I played more regularly and seriously tried to improve my skills, I'd be doing better.

One of my chess pet peeves is when the person setting up the board is unaware of the queen on her color rule.  I dunno if other people take the rule seriously, but that's how I learned it.  But far worse is when I see players castling incorrectly.  I cringe when I see stuff like that.

Fischer is gone ...

I don't want to spoil this thread, since this might be off topic, but for me it was a shock a few days ago. Unfortunately, Fischer died at the age of 64. There are many resources available online, perhaps you want to have a look here or here.
I just wanted to express my sorrow towards this small god.

In a one "educational" tv show on croatian tv, they were teaching the kids to play chess. Then when they finally set up the board (after 15 min explanation which piece goes where), black player started with first move... I was WTF?!

On a sidenote... did anyone here ever played 2v2 chess? Imho its one of the most fun game variations I've ever seen.
I assume you mean 2vs2 on same board, and not "planted" (<-- lol for the translation) where you play with different color from your mate and give him the pieces that you take and vice versa. Anyway, both yes, and both real fun!

In my opinion Chess is not TBS but TBT (turn based tactics) because there's no economy involved

Why would strategy need to involve economy?

Chess is both strategic and tactical game since it includes both long term planning and short term maneuvering.

But i guess to a beginner, it might seem its all about tactics.

exactly

I was talking from a gaming point of view
RTT or TBT are games with a fix number of units and only by skill you can win or loose
RTS and TBS adds economy and by no means a fixed number of troops to the equasion

Fine, but that is simply in contrast with general definition of strategy and tactic.
Nevertheless, back on topic. How do you feel about and what are you experiences with chess programs like chessmaster, fritz, junior etc.

I find chessmaster way too artificial while fritz seems to play most human-like.
