B(a)stard!! such a cool classic I really liked it back when I was starting to get into anime. I always digged the concept of OP badass protagonists, and this one delivers on that
Here's a enyoyable and funny summary of anime in 2018 video [MEGA SPOILERS, you've been warned):

Sorry to hear that. Virtual hug from me.
Recently watched kimi ga nozomu eien and it was a really good drama. Impossible decisions to make, phychological pressure keeps building up. Human relationships at their best and worst.

VE? Yeah it actually was one of those overblown drama series. I mean it did have some good moments (the little girl episode to name the most obvious one), but most of the time I had this "wait, that's it?" moments. It felt like you were waiting for some big plot twists that never came. The story was plain, the visuals were the series strong point mostly.
This season when it comes to new series I'm mostly enjoying Dororo, Tate no Yuusha, Mob II and, surprisingly, Domestic na Kanojo. Rest is rather underwhelming.
Btw I mentioned this in another thread but Monstress is good. It's an american comic book series that has some dark snow in it. It tells a story of a girl that is fighting for survival and her own humanity (she has a dark god inside of her) in a steampunk/fantasy setting where two major factions fight for dominance with her in the center. It has it's own distinct style but most importantly there are obvious inspirations taken from various manga like Berserk or Princess Mononoke. I see a lot of cool references both in plot and art even if it's only me (Fire Emblem series for instance). And the art itself is killer. Go take a look yourselves: https://imagecomics.com/comics/series/monstress.

Oh, I didn't drop it because the story didnt stimulate me, quite the contrary, touched me a little too deep, a story doesn't have to have some grand plot or events to make it interesting, sometimes all it takes is for a subtle emotion or feeling to grip your heart. Like some long forgotten memory still having a hold of you, almost entirely alien for someone who has lived an uneventful life, but strangely familiar as if I've lived another life that made me wish for a tranquility.

You can actually feel such emotions through many other things. Plus it doesn't strike me that having uneventful life makes you less sensitive. If you found some deep connection within VE then all the better for you. I think each person can interpret a piece of work his own way and as such have a completely different reception of said work.
For me VE failed to connect on a deeper level, but hey I'm a person that has teary eyes each time he sees Riders of Rohan charging at forces of Mordor in LotR: RotK

Not even the part with the mother's letter? There were some convenient plot parts but quite liked the whole thing. Wonderful music/visuals mix too.

Violet Evergarden was a masterpiece not for the faint of heart. That episode with the little girl and her mother writing letters was absolutely dramatic and astonishing to me, without a doubt the highlight of the series as far as I'm concerned. A lot of the other ones were more subtle and mature, maybe without a punch right at the end, but still fairly good. In hindsight, I'm tempted to say that the finale could've been greater. Sure, the tragedy was on spot, but an open ending? I am pretty sure some closure with regards to her lover would've been better.
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, eh, maybe I'll give it a try. I've been putting it on hold for a while now, like anime in general lately. Life calls man.

I did mention that VE had its moments. But somehow my overall reception wasn't strong enough so that I can refer to this work months after I watched it. It was technically a very good anime, but I feel it could've been so much better with the right script.
For instance Koe no Katachi or Kimi no na wa impacted me way more.

So I've continued to glance at the evil giant chicken manga out of morbid curiosity. Naturally, I don't have much of an idea of what is going on, but what a flaming piece of garbage. It's exceptionally awful. Just awful.

Yet you keep reading it
I haven't read anything noteworthy lately, just haven't had the effort to put into them. Just been wading through seas of snowty isekais.

I haven't been into as much lately. I've grown incredibly tired of harem manga and will drop anything as soon as I discover it's plagued by such a lazy theme. I honestly do not understand the appeal of it. I suspect it's because I'm almost 37.
I've also dropped most Korean manga I stumbled across. The translations tend to be so poor that it seems like they are written by 15-year-olds (they could be for all I know; props to the kids if true).

Hmmm, I don't think harem is really that bad. It's just in the execution. A properly set up harem that has something else as justification than just oh gee, he's the protag, let's have love-come hijinx, is tolerable.
I've been waiting for an isekai to pop up where the main character is serious about setting up a harem or creating a generation of offspring but haven't stumbled upon one yet. There are "let's make a slave harem"-series, multiple of them in fact but not one has really used this well so far. The MCs are just useless teens and usual lazy writing ensues. Show me a series where there's proper setup. You can't just buy some slaves to start a harem then make them adventure to make more money for more slaves. If it was that profitable everyone would be doing it! Or walk through the streets and have all cute girls fall for you. At least make it so that the MC is somehow regarded as an outstanding male and there's a culture where the females value genetics over ability to provide for the family, females in such a culture would welcome others to beat the MC and switch sides instantly, not defend him. I guess the main failing point is that those are all just written by people who can't be bothered to think. Incidentally the best ones like this are the self-actualisation rape-fantasies because at least those have some justification for it.
The ones where harems are treated the best are actually the ones where it isn't treated like anime usually but rather it's a requirement of the setting(bloodline for royalty) or comes as a result of some other story actions(MC in a political situation where he can't turn down an offer.) Incidentally both of these series(Risou no Himo Seikatsu, Realist Hero Rebuild the Kingdom) are LNs(though with manga adaptations) where the main characters are not strong and in both cases the possible(neither has formalised a harem yet, albeit both are pretty much set in stone) applicants' side initiated this.

Funny you should mention Risou no Himo Seikatsu. I was enjoying it until they started leaning HARD on the harem angle. I've since lost interest. There are a few I still read, such as Rise of the Shield Hero and Tales of Wedding Rings (or whatever it is called) but, again, I'm growing tired of the teenage fantasy. It'd be such a pain in real life dealing with a harem.
