*Just watched Texhnolyze Ep. 3*

Wow, the similiarites between Texhnolyze and the newest Deus Ex is pretty strong.

Artificial limbs... drug needed for the body not to reject them... pro and anti technology groups...

The pacing is pretty weird... if they decide to keep it this slow they should've at least just focused on Ichise instead of the Ran girl... I understand she'll become significant later on but right now she's just... not doing anything... just travelling with a guy who asks questions which she does not answer.

I do LIKE the pacing, the minimal dialogue and focus on emotions is awesome. Every little emotion is savoured...

I absolutely love the character designs too, no big oogly anime eyes in this one... just raw realistic design... especially like the mouth design and animation, really captures the expressions well.

Talk to the hand

I had some free time a while ago, so I've been sort of sniffing around and sampling different anime. I thought I'd write some of my impressions down.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi is great. It's about this guy nicknamed Kyon who goes to highschool and meets this absolutely crazy girl, Suzumiya Haruhi, who then creates a club for contacting espers, aliens and time travelers and then having fun with them. The show pretty much revolves around the charming personalities of the leading cast, the mysteries that arise, hihgly nerdy intertextualities and stuff. So there's no way it's not great.

K-On! On the other hand left me tearing my hair. K-On! is about four girls, Yui, Mio, Ritsu and Tsumugi, who are the sole members of their highschool's light music club (kei-on-gaku-bu, thus the name K-On) and their colorful club activities and friendship; in other words, it's a moe anime. It's so overly cutesy with its characters that it confused me: Should I be enthralled or disgusted by this shameless pandering? Left it at two episodes.

Funny story about K-on. Three years ago, I had some free time so I was sort of sniffing around and sampling different anime. So I ended up watching a few minutes of K-on subtitled in Spanish. I got bored, yet filled with determination and shouted: "SCREW THIS, I'LL JUST LEARN JAPANESE!" So I did.

Last but not least, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. It's a black comedy about a teacher named Itoshiki Nozomu which kind of looks like the Japanese word for "Despair" "zetsubou" when written left to right, instead of from above downward. This name couldn't fit him any better, for he somehow has the power to see everything in a terribly negative light and as the Finlandism goes "Turn a fly into The Fly." To bring a suitable contrast to Itoshiki's suicidal antics we have his class of students of many varieties, mainly the naïvely positive Fuura Kafuka whose happyisms almost seem like a psychological defense.
As odd as it seems to say, it's almost as if Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is a harem comedy: All the students are cute girls who tragically (though rather comically) fall in unrequited love with our titular character and even compete against eachother at points for Itoshiki's love. There's even a hot springs episode.
It's actually a very fun show if you're into dark humor. Though with a few jokes based on the Japanese system of writing that you might miss if illeterate in those matters, it shouldn't be all too "insiders" material so to speak.

Same director as grave of the fireflies, you will find his style of "I'ma use little kids abused in an insane world to prove my point" again, but I didn't tear up in this one. There sure have been moments that made me melt, but not moments in which tears were streaming down my face and I was yelling "noooooooo" at my monitor.

Grave of the Fireflies was insane.

You'd have to be a cold hearted person or maybe even a monster to not cry from that movie.

What is DRRR?

Hehehe, I have explained this several times on the trip and I failed every time. I can't even give it a genre. It's about gang leaders, a Russian black guy who owns a sushi restaurant, a bartender who throws vending machines and is voiced by Crispin Freeman (hell yeah), a demon that possesses people it slashes, a high school love triangle thing with a twist, a criminal mastermind and Celty, whom I can't talk about, because her identity is revealed gradually and I'd take away too much from the first episodes:

EDIT: it's definitely not a comedy, more like a comic (as in comic books) epic or something...

Yes, it's called that. Haven't heard good explanation.
I heard three theories:

1) DRRR (also known as Durarara) is just random hiragana put together.
2) DRRR is a Japanese snowisation of what Celty is (well, it starts with Du and it has an l in it, but... It's a long snow.)
3) I think it's just trying to emulate the sound of a motorcycle.

I thought Grave the the Fireflies was directed by Isao Takahata of Studio Ghibli.

I don't see any mention of him in the wiki article.

Oh, we has failure of communication. Takahata did "Now and then, here and there", not DRRR.

Joonas referenced that, so I continued about that.

EDIT: a sec, I so fail apparently, because even now and then here and there reveals another dude to be the director. Maybe it was the writer... I should check what reviewers say, apparently... Hmm...

EDIT2: Damn, yeah, totally misinterpreted  revie wsomewhere when someone was drawing comparisons, starting the sentence with "This is the opposite of Takahata's true masterpiece, the grave of the fireflies, because..." and I sort of assumed, since the reviewer added the name of the director, I thought he did both stories.

Please, it's also count Julius, not yurius, whatcha gon do?

I kept watching til Crispin became quite integral (but still rather small, he's the muscle of the show) to the show. Can't say that you should pick it up again, someday, though, if that opening didn't suck you in. (First episode was the boring, I know. It was basically a "meet the cast")

Well, in Japanese there are a lot of cases where the particles, ru, ku, su, tsu leave the "u" silent, such as in "desu" you just get "des." And a mimetic for a rolling R sound is "rururururu."

So I think that the "ra" is propably not to be cut to simply "r" when transliterated from katakana. However Drarara would make sense, but really whatever brah. DRRR it is then; saves you the slight trill movement when typing.

Okay, so I got started on reading this Tsukihime visual novel. Apparently it's about this Toono Shiki {or something} kid who was at an accident and now sees lines along which stuff can be magically cut or something. Kinda reminds me of this other game, Saya no Uta, where there was this guy who was at an accident and started seeing things he shouldn't be.

Then there's some woman named Something Aoko or something. Can't quite figure out what the heck her name is supposed to be, but I'll just call her Obi-Wan Kenobi from now on, cause I think she's gonna blurt out that she's a jedi master or something.
